Rule of thumb: two-card combos are competitive, maybe three sometimes. This is technically(?) a two-card combo but it requires a nonspecific but fairly onerous board presence to pull off; token generation is, after all, no good to you.
I'm not sure it can really be viable for top tier stuff, but for tier 2 jank it seems reasonable. Liliana's Contract is an okay card in general since it's a draw 4 for 5 at the worst so you really only have 4 dead slots in the deck for the combo in arcane adaptation which is great. Since otherwise all you have to do is play creatures you can really customize the deck for the meta.

You could run a bunch of 1-of value creatures in a UB or WUB deck that maybe also ran Scarab God. I mean, that's the nice thing about Liliana's Contract is that it draws 4 for 5 mana. Blue players have been begging for a Tidings reprint in Standard for a decade.

Absolutely. A UB/x Midrange deck is totally reasonable. Run 4 Champion of Wits plus 1/2 ofs with Aetherborn Rogue, Glint Sleeve Siphoner etc. You can even just run 2x Arcane Adaptation with all the filtering/ card draw.
Well considering this combo was mentioned three different times in the thread of Liliana's Contract card spoiling and that thread is still on the first page of the Rumor Mill, I am also surprised you hadnt considered it.

I'd give this a solid "ehh, maybe a little?"
Is there a rules precedent for this? As far as I was aware, a token's name is whatever the creature type is. Therefore, for instance, a thopter token is a card named "Thopter" for this purpose.
Edit: This is why Declaration in Stone absolutely murdered tokens.

A thopter tokens name is Thopter, but what they mean by being no good is that most token decks make the same tokens which would all share the same name.
Tokens are no less useful to triggering Lili's Contract than copies 2-4 of any given creature. So long as you had a good variety of tokens, you'd be fine.
Can this be competitive?
