Karn, Scion of Urza - 4 Mana
Legendary Planeswalker - Karn
5 damn Loyality !
+1 Reveal the top 2 cards of your library. An opponent chooses 1 from among them. Put that card into your hand & exile the other with a Silver-counter.
-1 Put target card with a Silver-counter from Exile into your hand.
-2 Create a 0/0 colorless Construct Artifact creature token with: This creature gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control.
What is yall estimation ? Regardless of specific formats. I personally play Frontier with my group.
My first impression of Karn immediately was hes stronger than the other 2.
His manacost is peefectly managable & relatively cheap for his achievements.
5 Loyality to start with is plentyful. Especially as he goes up to 6 & grants you a new card.
+1 - im guaranteed a new card. But the worse from the top 2. best case is you get 2 useful ones so that im not forced to -1 to get the other card. Worst case: i get 1 useful card & 1 crap card. Now im forced to -1. 2 crap cards mean i wont have to bother to -1 & left bad cards behind me & get closer to better cards. Not ideal but good for 4 Mana 6 Loyality.
Either way; I will always draw a new card.
-1 not accessible when cast & only useful after +1 activation.
This ability will grant me the missed card from the +1. & in any case it will be a useful new card when i activate this.
Opposed to +1 less quality card, this grants me the quality-card i need.
-2 So this restricts the Deck for Karn aftetall. In order to get the very most & biggest Tokenz i personally would play a high density of artifacts. Luckily gainin these is too easy nowadays. Amber Mox, clue-tokenz, darksteel citadel & certainly many more out there. Be creative !
Note that these tokenz ate artifacts themselves & there grow in multiples.
This is the ability that protects Karn. But since its a -2 i wouldnt waste em on just chump-blockin.
These can be big threats if the Deck is taylored.
So thas it. Imo cuz of -2 an artifact-Planeswalker. But also great to deploy in non-aggro matches like Control with all dat card-draw.
An easy castable, high Loyality Plabeswalker that grants card-draw, card-quality & hopefuly big tokenz !
From the 3 Walkers i like him best & find him the definate strongest.
His design is self-synergistic, innovative & not typical template.
Highly curious to experience this card.
I'm really excited about Karn S, too. He only costs 4 mana, for starters!
He's arguably a worse draw engine than Coercive Portal in 1-vs-1 formats, but unlike that rock, he can hand you a card immediately and he can protect himself with tokens.
Jace, the Mind Sculptor is still a better draw engine than him, which stings for Karn S's playability in Modern (my favourite format), but I think Karn S is quite close to being a colorless Jace TMS.
Another Karn, I'm already on board! Seems like the -2 is odd. I guess it'll depend on the meta when it's released and how much artifact presence there is.
I have been testing with him on Affinity all afternoon. I don't have a very big sample of matches because I've tested just one day, but everytime I resolved it against Jund (which was 50/50 before Elf, not so sure now) and UWR control (which is more like 40/60), I've won. It's just answer me or lose. I drop a big-ish token (usually 4/4) after a Wrath and start attacking with it and Nexus lands while digging for cards and creating a second one is really good. The fact that the tokens are also Master of Etherium without mass pump (but with the possibility of being 2 in the same card and leaving a 1 loyalty PW behind) instead of a random 1/1 Servo or something like that is nothing to scoff at.
I haven't been excited like this for a non-Pauper card for quite a long time, and I can't wait to get my hands on a few foil copies. Hope it's not very hyped at first.
Absolutely in love with the new Karn, even though people around me can only bring up a 'meh' towards him. Dude costs 4, generates card advantage, protects itself and is COLORLESS. Ancient stirrings? sure. All is dust? Still fighting for you out there. And there are many many more benefits of being colorless.
If nothing else this Karn is an absolute superstar in my goodstuff cube and I'll play the heck out of him.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.

I'm inclined to think that virtually everyone who isn't aggro'ing all the time will try him out.
I just hope this Karn does not start with a 30 dollar price tag.
Too late, TCG is taking preorders of him at $31 and over
Been thinking about this and what I like most about new Karn is that new copies can return cards exiles from previous Karns. The only criteria on Karn’s -1 is that it has a silver counter on it, not that the current Karn exiles it, allowing you to grab back that card you need that was exiled earlier.
I don't think this Karn is dropping below 30 anytime soon and even after release the dip might be back to 30 dollars. He's just that good. Standard he is the Gideon, Ally of Zendikar replacement for vehicles and could actually be better in that particular deck since it doesn't usually try to go wide with creatures. Modern I've already slammed him into affinity and just like him. He's harder to deal with than Master of Etherium and helps when the board state is clogged and it comes down to who draws the answer. Also, WR finally has a way to draw cards that isn't filtering. Even G finally has something that can work now.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
I just hope this Karn does not start with a 30 dollar price tag.

I guess that's the price people have to pay.
Looks like WoTC made him 4 mana, only so that he can't be hit by Abrupt Decay and Inquisition of Kozilek, also won't trigger Eidolon of the Great Revel because he cost 4. This new Karn might become a staple for some Modern decks.
It seems super good, like it could go into ANY deck looking for card advantage.
If I end up playing standard anytime after this set is released, I'd at least want 3 in the deck.
ETA: $31???!!!
I better open one at the prerelease....
This might just be the first box that I purchase chasing cards....
Yeah, i need this thing too ! Alongside 4 mana Mahamoti Djinn & Tezzeret in an artifact -Deck. Esper, cuz Orzhov has already so good Removal.
But mostly im interested to see myself how switchin from +1 to -1 works out. It digs, it draws & adds quality cards.
If both cards are bad, you've still eliminated two bad draws. If both cards are good, you get one good card, and your opponent will have to figure out which is the better choice. Plus you can retrieve the other on the next turn or keep it in reserve for later. If you get one clearly good and one cleary bad card, you've still dug through one bad draw and now have a good card in the reserve slot. And when we say "good" and "bad" cards, these are all cards that you put in your deck on purpose, intending to draw them at some point.
He protects himself in a pinch with his -2 as well, and in an artifact heavy deck that token can be formiddable, even in the low numbers Karn is likely to provide.
Really, Karn's only downside is his lack of an ult, but many planeswalkers with ults are only played for their small abilities anyway, so that's not a huge issue, you just don't get a reward for him being protected/ignored for a long period.
I approve of the design and see himgoing places for sure.
