We're seventeen cards in, and I feel that Journey into Nyx is already better than Born of the Gods. I can already think of more applications for two cards of the Flash Dictate Cycle than the entire of the Fated Cycle from BnG.
Born of the Gods is probably in running for my "Weakest Non-Core Set Modern Set" rivaled by Dragon's Maze and losing to Saviors of Kamigawa.
I have been enjoying Theros block so far. Its got many wonderful gems that I appreciate that are fun for the most part. The less people want certain cards, the more for me so I don't have to pay forty bucks for some playset of dragons or angels or gods or lands.
Hammer, dictate, boros, fanatic will be bloody
Kuryme, good eye on the 4x transition of dmg there
I think gods, scry lands, multiple new and old abilities, and a few decent creatures, as well as turning on devotion themes. I think its a pretty cool set, even if the OP isn't really there.
To be fair, no one is saying theros is better than innistrad. At least I hope not.
No one is. It even loses out to it in flavor and artwork.
To be fair to Theros (and Kamigawa), the block is based on Greek (and Japanese) Mythology. Both blocks easily alienate people not interested in the original mythology.
Innistrad is based on horror, which is arguably a lot more mainstream, hence easier for both designers to design and for people to appreciate.

Still, Innistrad has everything. It has awesome flavor, large amount of synergy, and a high power-level. I'd say that it is probably the best block of all time in all aspects.
Why do they refuse to make any modern playable cards in this block? Everything has to be super careful with new mechanics because they are so afraid of breaking something.
This thread is still going? Wow. I find it amusing since it was trollish to begin with but it evolved into a lengthy serious debate. Sure BNG didn't have a bunch of money cards that were obviously powerful right off the bat but I could see that changing with JOU now. People were just spoiled with all the power from Zendikar and Mirrodin 2.0 then Innistrad's flavor and power combination. There is a reason why Wizards needed to tone things down a bit, power overload isn't a good thing.
Eh. That's a portion of it. But I loved masques which wasn't really a power set. The flavor is absolutely a big issue but hey I'm LOVING JOU so far at least! Wish the previous sets were just like it!

Urzas block was the best block in magic.
No. Urza's was horrible. It was the block where they forgot that the game needs balance. It has produced more broken cards than any other set, with the exception of Alpha.

You know they lost a bunch of players because of Urza's block, right?

I agree with that, I just think that Innistrad was "easier to design" and probably more powerful since the designers felt more invested in it. It's probably easier to pump more fun ideas when you don't need to do too much extensive research for references, since you already know them.
And it came from a lot of mistakes - the top-down lessons learnt from Kamigawa, and the third set dissonance from Rise of the Eldrazi (although arguably Avacyn Restored still suffered from the dissonance Rise of the Eldrazi did, and personally to me Rise was a lot more fun as a limited format than Avacyn Restored).
Although, I think they forgot their lessons after that, seeing Dragon's Maze as a third set...
Anyway, I will admit that I hate Theros for two reasons, it's design and it's development.
Isn't that everything about the block? lol I think THS block draft is miles ahead of Avacyn Restored. And I boldly include JOU. This aside, yes THS block is fails.

I would probably agree with you if it wasn't for AVR which pretty much took a giant dump on the previous two sets.

That set was only bad in Draft. It is at the core of Modern, Legacy, and formerly Standard.

But to consider the block Innistrad to have "everything" would generally include draft.

While this is true, I am just saying that Avacyn Restored didn't "take a giant dump on the previous two sets".
Clearly you did not play when sets like the dark, fallen empires and homelands came out. Heck, IMO mirage, weatherlite Coldsnap and visions were all a lot weaker as well. Probably Alliances too, though in the context of the game in that era alliances was a decent set.

Actually, AVR draft was so bad that it tarnishes the rest of the block for me.

Personally I want to use the dictate and the fated cycles together... Dictate of the Twin Gods + Fated Conflagration + Boros Reckoner = 20 damage

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

Zendikar for best block, IMO.

I like Zendikar, but Innistrad has better flavor.

I despise the gothic horror theme, so yeah, the flavor didn't do it for me at all.
