My buddy pointed out to me on Monday that there's a monogreen infinite combo piece out there that uses Sporemound(:3mana::symg::symg: ) 3/3 Fungus "Whenever you play a land, put a 1/1 Saproling onto the battlefield") and Life and Limb.
All you need is a land drop to trigger it and you're golden.
Not sure how viable it would be in Modern, it think it would be quite decent. The fact that it would also trigger landfall abilities adds to its potency. (Lotus Cobra would be a good insert too for extra mana generation).

A 4 mana card that combos with a 5 mana card is too slow. We already have 3s comboing with 4s (i.e. Twin). Not to mention, this combo is worse, because 1) the tokens don't have haste, 2) your opponent has a window to Wrath/Pyroclasm/Firespout your entire board or kill you with fliers before you can swing, and 3) you cannot actually curve L&L into Sporemound, because the fifth land will have summoning sickness.
The only thing going for it is that's it's mono-colored, but it's not like it's difficult to splash for a second color with all the fetches, or that mono-green provides you with a lot of SB options.
Doesn't work. Let's go over Life and Limb's rules text:
"All Forests and all Saprolings are 1/1 green Saproling creatures and Forest lands in addition to their other types"
Sporemound says "whenever you play a Forest". Sporemound's triggers won't retrigger itself as the Saproling-Forest is simply put onto the battlefield, it is never played or cast.
If Sporemound said "whenever a Forest is put onto the battlefield under your control" then yes, that'd have been infinite.
"Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, put a 1/1 green Saproling creature token onto the battlefield." is what Sporemound actually reads, so yes, this works. As has already been pointed out, this results in a draw. If you have something to stop the combo after producing 1000000 saprolings, suddenly it's a 3 card combo that looks a lot worse.

Okay, I was lazy and believed the OP instead of checking the spoiler.

That's my fault. I was doing a rush job when posting (my 12-month-old was scurrying around).
But isn't this a situation where you choose how many times it goes off? My friend was the one who pointed this out to me, so I'm not sure myself either about it.

"Your buddy" and half of MTGSalvation pointed out this combo, but sure, whatever.
So, how to take advantage of it? Well, once you pop, you can't stop, so you need some way to win at instant speed at some point during the combo. Here's some ideas:
1) Infinite mana. If you give your creatures Haste (via Concordent Crossroads, etc) then all those Saprolings get to tap for mana as they come into play. So, instant-speed burn like Volcanic Geyser will win it all.
2) ETB triggers. This is where people are going with Pandemonium or Warstorm Surger.
3) Sac effects. You win with Goblin Bombardment or Altar of Dementia. Alternatively, a sac outlet of another kind (say, Ashnod's Altar) gets you infinite mana without haste, enabling burn kills or kills with cards that mill or deal damage in response to creatures dying, of which there are a bunch.
4) Or just stop the loop somehow and win with inf dudes. Tactically, you want this to be a spell you cast if you can, not a permanent in play because -- I believe -- they rules cannot force you to play cards from hidden zones to stop loops. That way you get the option of drawing the game if you know the enemy is packing Echoing Truth or something. Perilous Research certainly does the trick here, as does any bounce spell.
So here's a potential BUG shell:
Combo (8)
4 Sporemound
4 Life and Limb
Ramp (12)
4 Veteren Explorer (Amazing ramp if supported)
4 Gaea's Touch (Potentially 2 mana now for 3 mana next turn)
4 Deathrite Shaman (Best ramp ever)
Card Draw / Win Conditions (6)
4 Perilous Research (Works with Explorer and to interrupt loop)
4 Blasting Station (Great with Explorer and wins with the loop)
Control (12)
4 Cabal Therapy (Great for killing off Explorer and stripping answers from opponent's hand)
4 Negate (You want to stop the non-creature answers to your combo)
4 Innocent Blood (Again, fine with your Explorer, most efficient removal ever)
Mana (22)
3 Verdant Catacombs
3 Misty Rainforest
4 Bayou
4 Tropical Island
7 Forests
1 Island
But isn't this a situation where you choose how many times it goes off? My friend was the one who pointed this out to me, so I'm not sure myself either about it.
It depends on the board. If you CAN stop the combo, then yes, you have to say how many dudes you are making and go to that point. If you CANNOT stop the combo, then it's a draw. That would happen if you get both enchantments in play and then drop a land, and cannot cast any spell or active any other ability, for instance; they'd make creatures forever.
Don't the rules allow you to "forget" to make a saproling off sporemounds ability since it is a beneficial trigger?
Assuming competitive REL that is.
Also note that such 'forgetting on purpose' is fraud, which at Comp REL is a Bad Thing. Good luck trying to explain how you remembered to make 1 mil Saps, but 'forgot' the 1 mil + 1-th time.

you'd need a third card to take advantage of the infinite triggers, like Pandemonium.

No. (For the reasons already explained above).
Also, note that whether a trigger is "beneficial" or not has no relevance anyway. That term isn't used anymore in the trigger policy.
