I am pretty sure in like the fourth paragraph they refer to him as a guy because they say "his" abilities... He's not a transvestite. That would be kind of creepy, don't you think? Plus, you can see his chest, and I don't see any boobs. So if you would have actually read the article you would have known he is a young teenage thug. Not a creepy transvestite.
Be careful what you call creepy, you might get attacked by some of the folks here.

Why would he be creepy if he was a transvestite? That would be like calling a guy in a wheelchair creepy. "Disabled" or at least "disfigured" I think would be more accurate if we were talking about actual hermaphrodites, and if they are merely cross dressing, that was a common practice in the ancient Roman Empire, the most powerful empire the world has ever seen. "Hermaphrodite" is actually a Greek word, originating from the goddess Aphrodite.
this thread legitimately has people debating and taking offense over the transgender status of a fictional character printed on a collectible cardboard trading card.
Yea this more-clear art reinforces my original thought. He's like an anime-style Lost Boy who can probably do back flips off tree branches and summon a bunch of green-red beasts with hand gestures like on Naruto.
Um, excuse me? Why would a trans character be disgusting?
I'm being very, very restrained in this response, by the way.
Pretty sure that response was a joke. The first line suggested that cross dressing was disgusting. The second suggested that it would be nice to have the character be the progeny of goblin/human sex. I can't imagine that the person was serious.
In any case, cool the righteous indignation for more worthy battles. Those types of responses can seem off-putting to the people who need to (re)consider their opinions the most.
My personal Vote still goes to he's Transgendered, or at least has a very (anime like), Feminine Build.:)
I don't see it. I just see a young boy, probably prepubescent. Nothing about him looks overly feminine to me. Not all men are hugely muscled he-men like Garruk or Gideon.
What precisely is the chance of a presumably Gruul person having the technology to even be transgender? In an environment where the crucial word is fantasy?
Not even including the fact that he has already been referred to officially as a male. And why does this thread exist :>
^^This.
It's freaking fantasy, people. The only way you could say someone was transgendered in such a setting would be through some spell or potion. Which would not leave the person looking like a 'modern' transgendered person. If a man was changed to a woman with magic, he'd look like a woman.
And yes, now that he's officially confirmed as male this thread is unneeded.
Fair enough,
to me prepubescent kids look mostly the same: androgynous leaning to feminine (Edit: With ofcourse some exceptions)
Defintly if they are built small and wear dark gothic make up.
I understand what you're saying about younger boys and girls looking similar, they mostly do. Many younger prepubescent boys can pass for prepubescent girls and vice versa. It's been the plot to many a play or movie. I guess I just don't think of that particular look as "feminine", I just think of it as "young person" or perhaps "androgynous/not yet developed".

Untrue. Throughout history there have been dozens of cultures that have third (or more) gender options. Berdache. Hijra. Thai ladyboys. History has a rich derth of genders and gender options long before transitional surgeries and hormone therapies were invented.
I mean, I assumed Domri was male, and I've seen the confirmation, but I can see an argument for Domri being female, or many other options. It's a fun discussion to engage with. Flavourwise Gruul feels like it would be a fascinating tribal culture and absolutely have space for less than dichotomous genders.
This is the weirdest thread i've ever fell upon. I'm female i assumed he was male. Nothing about even the fuzzy photo made me think otherwise. He looked like a young anime-ish type art, like some of the "girlier" versions of "jace" however, i guess "girlier" is really just a way of saying "scrawny, and small" lol... but that in no way makes me think any less of the card/character he represents. Aren't all Anime style art characters androgenous? All you do is lengthen the hair and add boobs to make one a female, do the reverse to make one male. I however was never confused on this one's gender. And don't quite frankly care lol. This was a silly argument.
this thread is disgusting. why domri was called female? because he hasn't enought muscles. really, just because his arms or pectorals aren't bigger than his head he is female. wow. nice to see all you people talking about the rights of transexuals and homosexuals, too bad that for you a man without big muscles is a woman.
It'd be like disqualifying Bloodbraid Elf as a woman because of her small chest. Scrawniness is a thing.
And Domri Rade packs better flavor because of it. I love his second ability because it characterizes him as an inciting urchin. I envision him throwing rocks to start fights.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

To be fair, bloodbraid elfs breast are just fine and proportionate. The media has led us to believe 5'2'' 110lbs need DD breast or they're small.
Imposing gender identities on drawn characters, really?
I am a trans woman myself, and while I'd love to have trans planeswalker to identify with, it's just not going to happen. Not unless there's a good reason and a good backstory for that character. Simply showing a character and saying they are trans is bull****. You mostly can't see if someone is trans or not.
Thank you.
This is what irks me about the punk-rock fashion association as an indication of a butch-lesbian or transgender identity... This, people, is buying into media stereotypes. Even an alternative indie punk rock band for an 'underground' scene is selling you an image.

I think wizards has shown that a female gruul looks like Burning-Tree Emissary, who I find to be absolutely gorgeous. The talk of Gruul women not being attractive is kinda weird considering her card.
Also, I remarked at some point that I was annoyed that domri did not bring anything new to the table (in abilities or race), but the first child/teen walker changes my tone. Very cool that there is a kid walker.
But yeah, this thread is a fail due to all the cissexism and gender stereotyping. Good to see there are also some people being smarter than that.
But it's also a good illustration of exactly why progressive character design isn't really going to be a thing with Magic: The playerbase's expectations are such that LGBT characters would be, shall we say, poorly received.
Although I disagree to some extent that simply saying a character is trans is bull****. Personally, I like when trans characters aren't all about being trans, when being trans isn't their defining characteristic. They should be characters first, trans/gay/elves/on fire/brawny shirtless hunters/teenage fan-bait second.
On the actual subject I'd bet male based on the name, but Trostani shows they're willing to buck their own name sourcing every so often so it's not definitive. Every other Legendary woman in Ravnica that I can think of ends with an -a.
EDH, on the other hand, is more like a monster truck rally. It's more about the spectacle than the race, the games go long, and it's not usually clear who's in the lead until there's only one truck left.*
Single player EDH is like two guys smacking each other with pillows... until one of them pulls out a shotgun.

@angelic dawn: nice to see someone elightening the masses. thanks to jerry springer, the world is afraid of lgbt- but it's getting better

That is what I'm saying though. She has a small chest because she's small.
I don't think the media's to blame so much as people's insecurity.
Small. Is small. And that's ok.
What's not ok is the moral bandwagon that is doing more harm than good.
Thank you.

EDIT Nath'd by a good few hours. Should have read the thread...
On building a Celestial Kirin Stax EDH:
It's clearly not an androgynous man, or a scrawny boy.
It's a very hansom goblin.
You know, for a goblin.
