Instant speed of erase is far superior to sorcery speed revoke
Back to the specter: Seems like a potential option post-rotation. I'd rather be running Revoker and Lashwrithe in the 4 slot over this.
Not really. Erase is extremely narrow. For another added mana you get to hit artifacts as well. Erase will get rid of rancor in limited. Otherwise Erase is cute but not highly playable. Just like nobody will be playing smelt when they can just be playing ancient grudge. The different between 1 and 2 mana here is pretty irrelevant considering their function. Being able to hit swords and rancor with the same card not only saves space but is much better considering the same card will be good sideboard material vs decks that use either. Divine offering is used because getting rid of a sword at instant speed is much better than it would be getting rid of a rancor. 2 extra damage isn't worth the narrow card i would have to use to counter it
On the subject of Tokens vs Rancor: Tokens tend to play White. White got Erase. Any questions?
Actually yes... being a control player the last thing I want to do is have a horrible game one versus a stupid enchantment. If I run them main, then I likely will have a dead card for every other matchup...
It's going to be a VERY annoying card, with or without Erase... and yes, Lingering Souls is likely going to the SB.
It wasn't good back in FUS, and I don't see the standard environment that exists now being any kinder to it. It was also a pet card of mine, and still features in my Mind **** casual deck, but otherwise is a bin rare.

1. Future sight's key was FUT.
2. Shimian Specter was a regular, NON-future-shifted rare.
I love the card, but in no way is this playable in Standard. Lingering Souls kills it all by itself, with no pump. And also gets online before this, unless you Rampant Growth first.
ASIDE:
Thundermaw is great all by himself as a way to get damage through. (Unless it's a ground creature with reach). But he does not kill 1/1 Spirits. Because they have EIGHT two mana enchantments that boost by +1/+1. He also does literally nothing against Midnight Haunting after attack is declared, or worse, at EoT.
Nothing short of Glissa + Ratchet Bomb can handle the flashback aspect. And not even terribly well because they're probably holding a Haunting to foil your shenanigans.
This aint your girlfriends meta! This is a man's meta! TURBO META.

Cast specter on turn 4, Hellkite T5 killing x/1 fliers and tapping all others then swing for 7 and lobotomize, seems solid to me.
Yay for Magical Christmas Land!
