urzassedatives, my bad, Just reread the cards.
Out of curiousity as a new player, how much do you take into account what's going to get mass picked?
I mean I really like the look of WU in this set, but I expect to get W to get picked bare pretty quickly in most groups.
The demon is nice and all, but I'm just not that amazed by the other blacks in this series.
Emancipation Angel or Righteous Blow. I think I take the angel but just barely. She wins out because of all the blink shenanigans that will come up and because she's an uncommon instead of a common. The demon is pretty terrible he's a removal card for your own creature and if it does die you get wrecked. Taking either white card doesn't cut white which sucks but I think the angel is strong enough to take that risk.
I think you should have another look at it. At first, you will appear to be behind, losing a creature to cast a 5/4 flying. When it comes back however, as Undying dictates, you didnt spend a card to get it back. You will effectively be trading another creature you control for a 6/5 flyer (When this dies, target creature you control becomes 6/5 and has flying) On top of that, unless your opponent manages to exile it, he needs to spend likely two cards to get rid of it. There isn't much in the format that can stop this Demon and not die, except for the huge bombs Avacyn and Gisela.
While you will probably be behind on the end when it comes to cards, the damage that it can do should make up for it, especially in black.
This is the problem with a card like this in limited. Black is lacking a lot of the fodder you need to make a card like him work. You could really get blown out in the draft process simply because there's not enough playable black. He's a second pack first pick but only if you already have black playables. Otherwise he could be in a dead color.
So you're effectively saying that Black is a colour that simply cant be drafted because its too bad, or because of the risk that you can get it denied?
Oh, and pretty much all the other colours except may be blue can provide for enough fodder for this demon. Good decks run two colours I hear.
Sure you run 2 colors but the issue is your picking a card that needs another color as your first pick. He's a good card but I don't think he's first pick worthy. If you were already in White/Red/Green and wanted to pick this up second pack or mid-way through pack 1 I'd say go for it. But cutting it first pick and leaving everything else open makes it hard for you to get any solid cards in those colors. (not saying you won't but it'll be hard)
Turns out that all blinking effects can only target your own creatures makes the demon a bit better. There's a thread in the limited forum about the removal in AVR, and it does seem sub-par, but unfortunately, there are multiple ones targeting only flyers, making the demon worse in that aspect. At this point, I'm not sure when I'd pick the demon, only playing limited will tell.
It's a bad card? You need at least 2 creatures in play to not run the risk of getting blown out. If you're curving out that well you're probably winning anyways. There are 4 or 5 cards in the pack that are better than him (including Grave Exchange).
For me, it's Seraph of Dawn or Emancipation Angel.
what this guy said.
demonlord is horrible. unless your opponent has absolutely NO tricks in his deck.
