you're thinking about it wrong. you won't be playing delvers or other things like that. you'll actually be playing spirit cards. turn 1 traveller, turn 2 spectral knight or something, turn 3 captain, turn 4 image image...
If you honestly think any deck running U wont put delver in just for the turn 2 flip possibility, you are delusional. Just adds to the flying swarm. I couldn't imagine spirit decks not trying to put delver in their strat.
he seems like the best of the captains since he actually protects everybody else and in multiples protects himself as well, plus he has evasion.
standard playable....ehh, Delver just Mana Leaks? Geist is a better card in general? The 1 and 2 drop spirit things kinda blow?
i doubt any of the lords are playable personally, there's much better cards in every color, with the exception of Immerwolf, since he's the best thing you can play for werewolves. 3 cmc 2/2s generally are poop in contructed though
germanturkey, if you are running a deck with Delver, but no Snapcaster- that hints at that you are not running enough instants and sorceries to make Delver relevant anyway.
I don't see this card doing much in Standard right away... but TALLOWISP just got much better in Modern (might be enough to make it a real deck... probably not though)
Why do you guys all think this is so good? He pumps some tokens, and gives them hexproof. But the hexproof doesn't matter, because they would kill ht elord before the tokens. He pumps Geist of Sait Traft by +1/+1, which is generally irrelevant. And... what else does he do? Sure, playing 2 of these is good, but that's pretty much his only good application.
If you have 3 spirits out he is essentially a 5/2 flying for 3 mana. Strong in aggro control. You don't necessarily need 2 of this guy, you can just use a phantasmal image.
He is a glass cannon in many ways, just like Geist of Saint Traft, but U/W certainly can make use of glass cannons.
So Geist of Saint Traft can't be chumped by Snapcaster Mage anymore? Hmm...
That was my first reaction to it when I seen it, and that's why I think that it's good.
And not only can the Geist not trade to a Snapcaster, nor can it trade to a Chandra's Phoenix, or a couple of Spirit tokens, or a Phantasmal Bear, etc.

This card really makes me sad because of how awesome he is in the meta.
It reminds we of when CawBlade was dominating standard, everyone was hoping praying that New Phyrexia would bring something to balance the playing field. Instead, Wizards in all their wisdom printed Batterskull.
When the Drogskol Captain hits the table he will benefit from any honor of the pure effects. The 2nd Captain or Clone effects gives hexproof. The spell-based put token creature into play with flashback, will give plenty of sword carriers. Hexproof means countermagic can be used more selectively.
UW is always the strongest color combination, everything else just tries to beat it. Every set it has a deck thats tier 1.
that said, this lord is competing with Geist and Midnight Haunting and in many cases Mirran Crusader for the 3 cmc spot, but maybe now the humans/spirits deck will split to better utilize their creature types. It makes sense anyway since Champion of the Parish is stupidly good and used less and less in the meta right now.
Geist will be even more powerful...um, ok, i think some one mentioned Batterskull already so I wont beat that horse.
The t2 spell is still Mana Leak or Honor of the Pure, maybe Ratchet Bomb now if tokens is legit.
With Sword of Feast and Famine in the format hexproof is pretty stupid though. Hexproof is stupid all by itself as a matter of fact.
Doomed Traveller is still best bang for your buck t1, as well as Ponder. Mental Misstep gets alot better and may see an increase in maindeck play with all the strong 1 drops in these multiple aggro decks.
Moorland Haunt is so good. With mana bases the way they are, you take a big risk running ghost quarter. Busted again. At least there's no decent 2 drop spirit.
That it's a cute card that no T1 deck would wanna play. Waste of a spot.
That's a very misinformed judgment. Pretty much every good UW deck runs Moorland Haunt, and at least a few spirit token spells, as well and Geist of Saint Traft, and Doomed Traveler. I don't know what T1 meta you're talking about, but it must be pretty screwed up.
I swear I first read it as Wingbonger...something tells me that "As Long as Wingbonger is paired with another creature, both creatures have weed." wouldn't be as good. Seems solid for limited.
The thing about all those cards is they are great by themselves. Good players wouldn't play cards that NEED other cards to make them marginally better. Who Dismemebers a 1/1 spirit anyways? Sweepers are spirits biggest weakness. Not to mention it's cost conflicts with Saint Traft AND Midnight Haunting.

By your definition, no lord is ever playable. Ever. The point is that it pumps creatures that you're pretty much guaranteed to have. Also blue happens to have counters, which take care of sweepers quite nicely.

Spirit tribal deck? I haven't seen that decklist myself.

What a stupid way to evaluate cards. This guy is essentially honor of the pure on a stick, which is already nice against decks running curse of death's hold. Secondly, this guy has relevant applications for geist of saint traft moorland haunt, AKA the 2 powerhouse cards in standard right now. The fact that he's also evasive, forces removal before opponents can answer a spirit token equipped with a pike or a sword, and aggressively costed all point to this guy being an impact on standard.
But sure, keep making unqualified statements.

So this card is pretty darn silly isnt it?

Um.
The dominant deck right now runs Midnight Haunting, Moorland Haunt, Geist of Saint Traft, and sides in Phantasmal Image. Doomed Traveler has also seen significant play in some decks. Dungeon Geists is possibly too slow, but still could be a possibility for Standard.
What were you saying again?

Spectral Rider would beg to differ, but that's a discussion for another time.
I think Drogskol Captain is going to fit in nicely in a UW spirits deck with Phantasmal Image, Intangible Virtue, and Geist of Saint Traft. I'm already thinking of ideas for Spirit/Spirit token decks that will become aggressive.
I'm even considering Adaptive Automaton to build side by side with Drogskol Captain. Should be interesting.
