I'm sorry but, "it dies to removal" isn't a good enough setback for me. So what? A lot of things die to removal. That's why removal is used, right? Things die to it.
Also in your example of UW control killing the board while "not emptying their hand"...that specific move takes 5 cards. Mine takes 6. Is one card really that huge of a difference? I don't think so. Sure, it's a disadvantage, but I hardly see it as a game-breaker.
In the end it is, to me, a big green fatty capable of some massive beatdown unless the opponent manages to deal with it. And just the fact that it WILL draw removal isn't that big a deterrent. That just means my next fatty will have a better chance of sticking around. I appreciate your advice but I just don't agree with you. I think that people expect a bit too much for a creature to be "good" these days. I'm sorry, but not everything can be uncounterable, have shroud and amazing abilities like lifelink, first strike and deathtouch.
ok man, the examples were partly meant to be funny, but fair enough, we'll agree to disagree...and I hope you understand I really just meant to be helpful...
but I did say that if you like it you should play it,
my point is that it won't be worth a lot of money, just like terra stomper, another fatty that will win the game if it sticks around but in reality sees no play in competitive and is worth less than a buck now... anything you said about hydra applies to the stomper too (which is arguably better since it can't be countered, yet, as mentioned, it's just not played in competitive... well, certainly not in decks that actually win tournaments or post good results)
peace dude, gl

He'd be playable if his ability was present on a 4 mana 2/2, and if all your lands were also green creatures with haste, and if you could play 0 mana green creatures with evasion that works with equipment that pumps when you have more green creatures, and finally a sorcery with this cost reduction ability that draws cards.
In short, he's like if Myr Enforcer were printed in M10.

I did understand that it was meant to be helpful and I appreciate that, but as you said...agree to disagree. If I were to play something like this, you're right: I wouldn't value the card too highly (more than Lorthos for certain, but still not too high) and I wouldn't expect the deck to do too amazingly in a competitive scene. Yet, at the same time, I feel it has some potential and I'll probably be working with it to try and draw that out.
I feel like if we had Fires of Yavimaya, this card would be awesome in a green and red token deck. Maybe we can try him out with Sarkhan Vol. I would love to drop Vol t3, a few Elves t4, play the Hydra, and then give them all Haste. But that still kinda seems iffy. Let's try a list.
Terra Stomper is a GREAT Green card, which needs to see more play. This Hydra is cool, and great, but I could only see it taking Terra Stomper's place in a Mono-G Token deck.
As long as Thornling is still in standard it will never be played, same with Terrastomper.
SGC is having pre-orders for Khalni Hydra for $4.99, and i doubt it will get any higher
I beg to differ. I play Terra Stomper over Thornling for the sole reason it cannot be countered. That is Terra Stomper's saving grave to standard with the counter pool being so large.
Well, price update from eBay. Buy it Nows (I'm talking playsets of 4) are from $25 to $40, with only the $25 ones selling. Regular auctions were hitting $42+ at first (yes, even though you could Buy It Now for $19.98 at the time...) but now have settled to about $30. Early hype has already backed off and I expect to see prices consistently under $20 soon, and cooling to $12 a playset shortly after the set is released.
I love this card, because I dont care if it gets countered early I want it too. Summoner Trap as a back up. I want to play this guy an hopefully on turn 3 he gets countered an I summoners trap into Terastodon or One of the Eldrazi Gods. Then its almost GG.:D I think it can have a huge impact. No one wants an 8/8 with trample smashing there face on turn 4. I think it will be a good little trick. Plus if they waste there removal on it, then your other big guys are good to go.
Putting a bad card in your deck with the hopes that your opponent will counter it, so you can use another bad card (it's called Summoning Trap btw) has been a strategy of bad players and noobs since the game began, but it's still a bad one.

However, having more threats than they can remove in a deck IS a good strategy, so long as it's coherent.
So.... discussion about this card has completely died off. A day since the last post!
SCG is preselling this card for $5, so you can bet it'll be $3 in no time.
I doubt it'll go lower than that, though, because that about as far down as Star City goes for mythics. I'm sure it'll probably hit $1 on Troll and Toad, though, and even less on ebay. Now, back in my day, Silvos was a $5 rare.

Except there's way more removal in the meta than counters, making indestructibility far more relevant.
If you realistically think, "ok, when it hits the field it will be 3x the Lacerator in p/t majority of the game." you can assume it's better than it. what about cost though? "one B?!?!? no f!@#ing wey." This is where you should replace those lacerators with a death's shadow.
You guys really should scroll up a bit and re-read Post# 130. It's still true (and still quite correct).
To clarify, running a bad card in the hopes it will be made good by using it with an actually-good card does not make that bad card less bad.
Just stick to playing Momentous Fall and you'll do quite a bit better. Run it with good cards and then both of these good cards can be made awesome.
This statement is somewhat true, but I dont think this card is a bad card in the first place. Noone here can really say that it is or not because the cards got potential. If it was like Vizzerdrix then yes we could say its bad, but I think we should save our judgements for later. Like in a couple of months to actually see what this card has to offer.

Meh, that seems pretty terrible. Yeah, this card is bad outside of EDH.

Drop a few elves and play this think turn 3 or 4 and boom attack with an 8/8. Get an equipment like basilisk collar on this kid and go to town

Considering the fact that $2.94 IS pretty much $3.00, no, I don't think it will.
