Yeah, I was here for Zendikar rumor season. (I've been here since Saviors)
Yeah, I know. The first sentence of my post was to you, the rest was to everybody. Cool deck! Thanks
For sure! I love that deck. Nice work getting Kalonian in on the fun
Yeah, it was actually a "casual" build before I decided to take it to that tournament. I actually had Master of the Wild Hunt as a 4 of and 3 Terra Stomper in there before Wolfbriar and Omanath were released, as well. They made it better, though, because Wolfbriar doesn't die to Bolt and makes an immediate impact, while Omanath lets me never tap out. I might just win one with Khalni Hydra, too, if people get too comfortable with having no answers to gigantic fat. Sometimes, it's nice to take a break from teir 1 decks, though, and play some random off the wall, meta jank.
I can see where R_E is coming from. This card could have been more distinguished from Terra Stomper.
Speaking as a hydra-fan, I don't get why it's a hydra. Maybe some storyline guru has an insight?
I tend towards optimism, but I don't want this card for EDH. I can't use it in my Tome decks, which is VERY weird. So, I'll leave it up to the "real" format guys to make this card work.
It's actually ok in EDH if you play it in one of the mono green decks that makes a ton of tokens. A free 8/8 trampler isn't too bad. It's not as great as the 2 mana Avatar of Woe/Avatar of Fury, but big + free isn't a bad combination.

Depends on the meta. Some groups play more mass removal than targeted. We typically top out at 3 creatures, aside from an occassional Avenger of Zen or such.
That's an 8/8 Trampler on TURN THREE. That's pretty fricking ridiculous. I mean, you've worked 3 of cost out by turn one and another 4 by turn 2. One more forest and BAM. Good to go. I don't know about you guys, but that's looking pretty awesome to me. :/

That doesn't stop something like Nemata, Grove Guardian from being recast and going on a token rampage, again. A free 8/8 trampler right before the Overrun isn't too bad, especially with Concordant Crossroads. It's not like green has mana issues.

I've never played against Nemata, so it is very possible this Hydra could be good in that deck.
I was looking at this guy for my Rhys deck, but he was competing with stuff that generated tokens and doubled as a fatty (like Verdant Force).
I like it because it has 8 G symbols. That is about as good as it gets. Terra Stomper is slightly a bad comparison, but the card isn't worth $10. The Timmy inside smiles though.

it's bad because (considering the meta)
1- turn three you cast it and it gets countered or killed right away and then you have what? a board full of 1/1 0/1 creatures
2- even better, UW control has gone
1-plains
2- island chalice for 1
3- plains, DOJ, bye bye your entire board
4-you can play it out but your hand is almost empty, your opponent's is not, the match is already lost
3-Jund plays BBE and cascades into some removal and it's again card disadvantage and a poor board position
4- these days a vanilla trampler with no other special effects pretty much doesn't cut it, it would have been amazing years ago, when the best creature in standard was Ernham Djinn (4/5 no trample for 4 mana with a drawback).... now? nope
5- Terra stomper is strictly better, and if you're playing elves etc it can also come down turn 3, it has seen little play for the reasons above and it sells now for less than a buck (I got one drafting and sold it right away for 4-5, easy to tell it wouldn't be played at all and the price wouldn't hold)
anyways, jokes aside, if you like the card play it, nothing wrong with that, but please, please, please don't pay more than a buck for it, that would be just throwing money away
I'm not saying all this to offend you or anything, I'm just trying to help you save money

I like the card, but then I have a casual sporeling token deck. On the side of flavor, why isn't it +1/+1 counters?
If anything I think it would be a cooler and mythic creature if it was 6-7 mana and gets +1/+1 counter for each green creature on the battlefield under your control.
idk guys... for us token players who keep well to the world of saprolings, worms, and fungus, 8 creatures is easier to get to than 8 mana (or 6 mana for you terra stomper lovers )
No. The effect is a cost-reducing effect, much like Eye of Ugin and it doesn't not change the actual cmc. In fact, no legal Magic card can do that, but many simply reduce (or add to) the cost.

i don't find him that interesting as a mythic, he feels more like a rare
and as has been said, removal in standard is pretty good right now (an understatement) so i don't think he'll see much, if any, play.

I'm sorry but, "it dies to removal" isn't a good enough setback for me. So what? A lot of things die to removal. That's why removal is used, right? Things die to it.
Also in your example of UW control killing the board while "not emptying their hand"...that specific move takes 5 cards. Mine takes 6. Is one card really that huge of a difference? I don't think so. Sure, it's a disadvantage, but I hardly see it as a game-breaker.
In the end it is, to me, a big green fatty capable of some massive beatdown unless the opponent manages to deal with it. And just the fact that it WILL draw removal isn't that big a deterrent. That just means my next fatty will have a better chance of sticking around. I appreciate your advice but I just don't agree with you. I think that people expect a bit too much for a creature to be "good" these days. I'm sorry, but not everything can be uncounterable, have shroud and amazing abilities like lifelink, first strike and deathtouch.
16 Forest
4 Nissa's Chosen
4 Elvish Archdruid
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Elvish Visionary
4 Arbor Elf
4 Joraga Warcaller
4 Omnath, Locus of Mana
2 Protean Hydra
4 Khalni Hydra
2 Strength of the Tajuru
4 Eldrazi Monument
4 Windstorm
3 Regenerate
In the end, Protean hydra may come out, either for 2 more strength of the tajuru (to double kick Joraga Warcaller), or for some Eldrazi.

Thanks a lot. It certainly isn't budget friendly with 37 rares in the list, though.

T1: Forest, Llanowar Elf/Noble Hierarch/Birds of Paradise/Arbor Elf (OMG, right? =.=)
T2: Khalni Garden, Llanowar Elf/Arbor Elf/BoP/Noble
T3: Forest, Khalni Hydra.

For those annoying as hell, vanilla on the sense that it doesn't have any 187 or special effects as it hits battlefield.

Yeah, Nemata and Verdeloth, the Ancient laugh at such a pitiful cost as having 8 green creatures in play.

Exactly! The card elicited such a positive response that I had to dredge up and play my Multani, Maro-Sorcerer EDH list again. Good times.
