Exalted Angel was vulnerable too, so much so as a 2/2 on occasion. But playing Exalted safely with 5-toughness ass will take a turn longer than plopping down Baneslayer, which has more relevant abilities than you can shake a Morphiling at!

CASUAL RULES!!!

RIFT SLIDE (Casual) I'm a proud member of the Online Campaign for Real English. If you believe in capital letters, correct spelling and good sentence structure, then copy this into your signature.
Well, looking through my fat white creatures there quite possibly are better ones that didn't see much or any play. Purity: It's also hyper efficient and rapes red as well as Baneslayer. Twilight Shepard: It didn't even see play despite needing 2 removal spells and being able to attack and block at the same time. I am surprised 5cc didn't play it over Broodmate Dragon, though. Archon of Justice: It hasn't really seen play despite being a Vindicate against anyone that kills it. It even takes out Broodmate and friend in one shot. Battlegrace Angel: It has an immediate effect on the board and swinging alone, has pretty much the same effectiveness as Baneslayer. Ardarkar Valkyrie: It can attack, block, and steal everyone's **** all before breakfast. Pristine Angel: It's quite likely the ultimate blocker ever and only slightly easier to kill than Progenitus. It's also a nearly unstoppable attacker if it gains vigilance or is backed by instants.
Unless something really changes in standard, it's hard to see it getting played either.
@ Flaming Infinity: Except for Battlegrace, those are all 6 mana dudes. IMO, they aren't even comparable.
Compared to Battlegrace, this one doesn't rely on Exalted to give it lifelink and +1/+1. Plus first strike is pretty relevant, especially with Lightning Bolt and other tricks around.

I'm gonna go get Archon and Twilight Shepherds after reading this.
If you don't understand priority, you don't understand magic.
Don't trade cards you don't know the value of! Buy a smartphone or pocket pad! save the, "MOTL price guide" for paper and foil prices to your phone/pad as a text file once a week!
This is a Timmy card, it's great on its own, but doesn't fit into the whole tribal soldier theme that m10 has clearly emphasized.
Protection from Demons and Dragons is nothing, protection from black and red would have made it far better. So it can eat Broodmates and chump Karthus, who cares? The Jund deck will just Terminate / Pulse it. If it had pro black then it could evade both these spells.
Nobody used the awesome Elemental Incarnations from Lorwyn, even though they were flat out ridiculous. Vigor is even better now that red is getting support, and still nobody uses it.
This angel will be like Darksteel Colossus; a neat collecter's item but ultimately useless in competitive play. The removal is too high. Great Sable Stag will see more play, and justly so, since it has fantastic evasion against black and countermagic.
Even that new Vampire Lord is better than this angel. It's a 3/3 for 4 that can be ritualed out on turn 2 and can essentially become a Juzam Djinn with flying. Not to mention it pumps Sengir Vampire and that new common life linking vamp.
Maybe, and I say maybe, mono-white soldier decks will run this card as a two-of. Maybe.
@ Flaming Infinity: Except for Battlegrace, those are all 6 mana dudes. IMO, they aren't even comparable.

Six mana is hardly a big deal for a finisher, especially with as much play as Broodmate Dragon has seen. Besides, Archon is 5 mana.
Yeah, there is deathtouch, but other than the equipment, there's no way to get deathtouch airborne anyway. I think gang blocking would be a million times more likely than it ever meeting up with an equipped flier.
I'm gonna go get Archon and Twilight Shepherds after reading this.
I agree 150% with nearly all of this.
Well, they rotate in October, but it's not like they're expensive. They're dollar rares that are fun in casual as well. Twilight is even in the Divine vs Demonic deck as well.
Six mana is hardly a big deal for a finisher, especially with as much play as Broodmate Dragon has seen. Besides, Archon is 5 mana.
Maybe better players than me will disagree, but at 6 mana she'd be pretty borderline, especially since W doesn't accellerate mana.
Archon isn't as good, IMO. The lifelink makes the angel a simultaneous beater and defender, she's bigger, she's more evasive... Plus she's easier to cast than Broodmate which will be more of a factor once LOR rotates.
no... what they said they weren't going to do, is print utility cards as Mythic. And as near as I can tell by looking at the M10 spoiler they haven't.
okay, so tell me... how often are people facing down Chameleon Colossus' in Standard these days? How about Broodmate Dragons? How about Prince of Thralls?
I can't speak for Standard as I don't know the format very well. But I do know that Baneslayer Angel will DEFINITELY be finding a home in the Elder Dragon Highlander communities where BOTH dragon's and demon's see considerable play, and where this particular Angel is right alongside Akroma, Angel of Wrath as far as being the most powerful Angel ever printed. But I would be willing to wager that with the presence of at least Broodmate Dragon and Chameleon Colossus in Standard that Baneslayer Angel will not be an unwelcome addition to the Standard card pools.
Even in Extended this should get a critical eye: Tombstalker, Dstorm, Karrthus/Phil Collins, that sort of thing. The first strike and lifelink were tacked on to make it better than an overgrown Dragonstalker, which was utterly useless even as a sideboard card. There's nothing absolutely lockdown broken about this angel, other than it breaks the equation for a large flier, which is why I expect it will turn out to cost 3www or 4ww. If it's really a 5cc card exactly as spoiled, I will be somewhat surprised and a bit disappointed, but it won't break the game for me.
I think what people are and have been overlooking in this set is Silence. Almost everything White got in M10 centers around having access to that card. 5 and 6 CMC are now effectively turn 3 or 4. (one of the reasons Planar Cleansing still looks very playable to me). Your opponent effectively shouldn't get more than a land-drop for at LEAST one of his 4 first turns. It's the card that is going to really make W/X control a dominant force (possibly along with the damage redirecting instant and Path). As such, if this Angel is aggressively costed @ 5 cmc, then she'll definitely see play as a fnisher in said decks - she also works nicely with another of my favorite rares from the set, Sanguine Bond. Mark it down, both of these cards will be chase rares.
Yeah, there is deathtouch, but other than the equipment, there's no way to get deathtouch airborne anyway. I think gang blocking would be a million times more likely than it ever meeting up with an equipped flier.
.
I've seen alot of zombie idea being tossed around, and I know my favorite play with that right now id Kathari Remenant into that new zombie/skelly lord. Not happening too often, but I have run into a deathtouching flyer. Also, the BU strix with deathtouch has seen alot of play in esper sideboards to deal with wall of denial.
oh, and for the person who mentioned it, Twilight Shepard didn't see play in 5cc because of the casting cost. 3 white isn't that hard to come up with, but it goes agaisnt all the colors that 5cc likes to play. Frankly it's just hard to hit this one turn, then CU the next turn, while broodmate is very easy to hit prior to a cruel.
Baneslayer + Ajani Goldmane would give the angel vigilance, which some people seem to think is a major strike against her being... not good, and it would mean she is permanently a 6/6. By the time she was able to attack she could be as large as a 7/7. Backed up with Silence or counters this is a threat, despite what people say.
I believe she is for real, because she is at mythic status and mythics should be cards that we look at and say this can't be real it's under costed or that ability is awesome (not degenerate, just really cool).
Interesting... has anybody noticed that her artwork was the one Greg Staples was originally going to use for the 9th edition remake of Serra's Angel, but decided against?
Anyways, I don't think that the protections on her will be used much. Changeling and zombie/demon decks probably won't be seeing much usage, between her and the Undead Slayer shenanigans. The fact that she only costs 5 for a 5/5 means I would use her with just the flying, first strike, and lifelink.
Edit: MTGDaily post on her, and the player's guide to 9th (if anybody still has one) shows it on page 14. Whoo!
Nobody used the awesome Elemental Incarnations from Lorwyn, even though they were flat out ridiculous. Vigor is even better now that red is getting support, and still nobody uses it.
There was a whole deck archetype named after Guile's Sonic Boom.

I rolled 5 D6's and got 3 fours. They must have changed the odds of getting a 4!
I find the power creep disgusting. I find the opinion of rarity balancing the card naiive and harmful to the game's future. This card is clearly undercosted.
Remember when MaRo said (about Mythic Rares) "They will not just be a list of each set's most powerful tournament-level cards." I called BS then. I continue to call BS now.
There's so much driving me away from the game right now. If it weren't for my current investment and my obligations as a TO and Organizer, I'd be seriously considering selling my collection (currently taking up half a room in my house) and getting out.
Hum, why doesn't it die to Bituminous Blast? It's neither a Demon nor a Dragon, it's just Black and Red... Urgh, being new at a card game sucks, almost forgot what it was like.
Bituminous Blast deals 4 damage, but this Angel is 5/5, so it won't kill the angel by itself.
In my opinion, Baneslayer Angel will see some play. How competitive it will be will depend on the metagame, of course.
Darksteel Colossus not competitive? These twocards would like a word with you.
I'm talking standard here.
I wasn't playing during the broken shenanigans of Saga or Mirrodin. Oddly enough I started playing right after Saga then quit when Mirrodin came out. I just got back in with Alara block.
i think she is a great card to hit the board and is just another great big baddy that can win the game for you if the opponent doesnt have an answer for it and is way behind, like battlegrace (but much better than anything before at 5 mana). i think she isnt as good as battlegrace offensively in fact in a lot of situations though as you can drop BG and attack with what you have in play (but that is conditional). with baneslayer, you have to wait a turn to attack and her evasion isnt that great to begin with. the first strike is very good defensively if your opponenet has a big guy out and no removal later in the game (opponent has battlegrace in play) and can stop broodmates from killing you if they are out as well. i think she is incredibly good, but you probably will need to defend her because she has no haste or CIP. i dont think she needs haste or cip especially with silence where you can drop her turn 6 with a mana left and red cant do anything to her. she is way better than archon when you are trying to win the game early because you dont want archon to die if you are ahead, and twilight is at 6. so she might not be the card you need at the time you could use another big white creature, but she is so much better offensively better than those two. maybe even better than exaulted angel ( i dont know if anyone brought her up yet). lets say your opponent is at 20 and you are aiming to kill them with exalted solely . you can attack by the 5th turn. with baneslayer you have to wait till the 6th. doesnt matter though (for this point atleast) it will take you the same amount of time because the extra power on baneslayer. if im wrong about anything here forgive me and im just rambling.....
I think this is going to be played maybe in bant
but i also think that big creatures are bad in this format, with tons of spot removal.
siege-gang, cloudgoat ranger, broodmate, reveillark. they all either a) have a great cipt ability, have evasion, and make dudes
This card should be played in EVERYTHING. my playtesting with it has been in-freaking-credible. If this drops and it even hits once, you win the game. 10points of change is really dumb.
I have no idea if it's real or not, but I find it funny that the card is apparently only worth $11. I think buyers are staying away because they're having the same problem the OP is having - they're not sure it's real!
If it were real, it would easily fetch $25 and up.
