I know some of you already know this, but here is the card which Bob Maher created due to the 2004 Magic Invitational
Dark Confidant 1B
Creature - Human Wizard
At the beggining of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library and put that card into your hand. You lose life equal to its converted mana cost.

We've known about both this and BOP for ages. In the right deck this will be a power house.
Also the head judge at the pre-release i went to told me that wizards might not still be printing bop in ravnica, that they might be instead printing another G cost creature with the tap for any colour ability.

MaRo said that it'd be BoP, and very few judges ever get to see any info about a set very much in advance, especially not something like that.

I have no extendo-sig. Sorry, I'm just not vain enough to think someone will click on it.
I'm not saying its true i'm just mentioning what the head judge was saying, i personally hope he's wrong and think that since bops already been mentioned it'll probably be there.
This card already has me planning. It effectively doubles your card count, and in Black Weenie, this can be devastating. So, I've already started plans for Kami/Rav/9th T2. Another BIG thing to note here is the now near-confirmed presence of Hypnotic Specter in the set.

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.
what I'm wondering is how much a non-foil black-bordered Birds is going to sell for. We haven't seen a BB Birds since Beta and that goes for well over a $100. I think Birdies are gonna be the next Morphling dollar-wise.
That card suits SuiBlack to a T. Watch that be the one thing that revives MBC.

It could be a functional reprint of birds, just with defender. Like a wall of paradise mantle or something. That would be the only thing oth er than birds they could do. If they don't do birds in ninth, though, they'll do it in ravinca (or else).

I doubt if they'd change it. One of the main reasons for it's drop from 9th was that it had flying, and they want to start keeping flying from green. Otherwise, a variant 0/2 Defender with the mana ability could have easily taken it's place in 9th. (Well, I suppose it still can, but that + BOP + llanowar elves makes green crazy fast)
It's basically, 'pray you topdeck a land or get smote'.
Not really. The deck he really wants to see play in is a fast weenie deck of some kind, where you probably won't lose much life for any of your cards. He's reasonably efficient himself (2 power for 2 mana) and he helps you dig for more little guys without hurting yourself too badly. Aggro decks like card advantage, I hear.
The real question is whether he's going to be worth running over something like Phyrexian Arena (provided that makes it to 9th). I'm inclined to believe that being an efficient creature is an advantage, but the fact that he can be removed by red and the possibility of killing yourself through his ability deserve a little more analysis once Ravnica comes out.
I'd say on the whole I'd rather have the black guy in black weenie over phyrexian area because, first of all you have the possibility of losing 0 life and if you do draw a non-land card, which you'll do about 2/3 of the time, you'll have to take 1, 2, or maybe 3 to the face. And at one less mana and with a 2/1 body, he is far superior to the arena.
The only cards there I'd consider to be good in a black weenie deck dedicated to fast kills are Bile Urchin, Maggot Carrier, Cruel Deceiver (if I'm going to have the Top in the deck anyway), Cutthroat, Skullsnatcher, Spineless Thug, and Wicked Akuba. The rest are a bunch of one or two mana creatures with one power and useless or expensive abilities.

You'd play Spineless Thug but not Hand of Cruelty? And the Nezumi Graverobber definitely deserves consideration. Most of the time he'll just be 2/1 for 2 (not bad by itself), but once in a while you'll be able to catch an opponent with one card in the yard and flip into Nighteyes, which is relevant not for his ability but for the fact that he has 4 power.
Also, don't overlook Raving Oni-Slave. Yeah, the life loss hurts, but it doesn't matter if you win the game before your opponent can finish you off. Speed should be your goal anyway.
Also, I don't think you should be playing Cruel Deceiver or the Top in a tempo-based aggro deck. Once optimized, your deck should be tapping out constantly to play threats, and you shouldn't have mana left over to peek at your top card or activate the Top very often.

ravenous rats is played in just about every t2 black deck i've seen...

They would never do this. Or rather, they could conceivably do this once 8th edition rotates out of Extended. Having two birds in extended is something I assume they want to avoid. The closest I could see them doing would be something like:
Brass Elf- G
Creature- Elf Shaman
T, Pay 1 life: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
1/1
Well in this block it's possible to happen but it'll most likely be in a gold card. However if it gets printed as a gold card like that it's P/T is gonna have to go up a little for it to be useful... or at least have "can't be the target of spells or abilities" which probably won't happen.
As for the little black dude, I'm not gonna give him too much of a hope in this block since we just had a more controllish block twice in a row (altho aggro decks are getting their chance too with MGA, pre-ban Ravager, and WW to some extent). I'm definitely expecting a lot more big and cheap creatures in RAV block considering the size and cost of most creatures in the current block. So basically he'll be used in Extended possibly in post-rotation Tog and possibly in Rock and maybe in some other stuff that may show up (I dunno the full scenery for post-rotation extended yet). Of course if there isn't much removal in RAV block, you can just kiss everything I just say goodbye.

If you want to see, here's the website:

Also, 2005 Magic Invitational Winner Terry Soh's card will be in a future expansion and it's name is supposedly Jin, the Master of Disruption.
BTW, if you visit the link above, you can also see the symbol for Ravnica: City Of Guilds. I don't understand it though.
Also the head judge at the pre-release i went to told me that wizards might not still be printing bop in ravnica, that they might be instead printing another G cost creature with the tap for any colour ability.

Sorry for double posting, but this didn't seem like an add-on for other post.
Black weenies, anyone? Of course, this deck would include shiro.
The ravnica card would work nicely in the deck.

Now...if they just reprint Attrition, it's ON.

It's used in more controllish decks that want to deny you resources. It isn't for an aggro deck.
