Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"
2/2
I like this set. It's a nice continuation of the already cool Champions environment.

If hefner was a rich, gay, playboy and had hot steamy sex with hot guys would you choose him? Of course not, mainly because im a straight male and find that stuff gross.

As a casual player, I like the set. Mostly. The art is pretty decent, the flavor is still cool, ninjas are interesting, etc. There are a few bombs that look surprising. The one thing that bugs me the most is how overcosted Soulshifters are. I have not played with them yet, so maybe someone else with experience can explain otherwise. Raise Dead only costed B, so why are these Soulshift creatures 3 or 4 more than an equalivalent creature without Soulshift? Maybe I need to set up a Soulshift deck and give it a shot....
That's what I was thinking too...soulshift should only make the creature at the most 2 more than what it would cost then.
Goon and a restriction on Roar of the Wurm or Mongrel... :/
This will not happen in a million years. It didn't happen (and didn't need to happen) in Standard, and there were less decks to compete with Goblins and Madness. Goon?! Um.
And Extended does not, has never had, and will never have a Restricted list.
Affinity stuff
I honestly think the metagame will compensate for Affinity post-rotation. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if you're right and I'm wrong on that. The specter of banning is why I don't currently own any Ravagers, though I have the rest of the deck lying around.

This is my Jackal Pup. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Jackal Pup is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My Jackal Pup without me is useless. Without my Jackal Pup, I am useless. I must tap my Jackal Pup true. I must tap faster than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must beat him down before he beats me down. I will.
It would be a bit bothersome if they banned Disciple IMO. I mean, for all intents, Extended Affinity is the exact same deck as T2 Affinity, except they have Meddling Mages and a more diverse SB. So it would be sending a rather strange mesage if they banned a card in a larger format when they didn't ban it in the smaller one.
Goon? And yeah, the only format with restrictions is Vintage. WotC said they don't want to start restricting cards in formats that are restrictive by nature, because it will force players to run an extra card, thus weakening the overall quality and consistency. They'd rather ban Card A and make you run 4 of Card B than restrict Card A and make you run 1 Card A and probably 3 of Card C, which is weaker than either A or B.
Overall, I think that BoK is about as powerful a set as CoK: fairly mediocre. A few nice cards for Constructed, but mostly average to junky filler.
My main beef with the set is the addition of more stupid keyworded abilities to the game, namely the 'offering' ability. Continually adding keyworded abilities that will be used on a tiny number of cards just smacks of "Ooh, look! A new keyword! Who says we didn't come up with anything fresh and new for this set?" on the part of the designers. I know more keywords doesn't hurt the game in any way, but it bugs. BTW, anyone else think that it looks wrong and weird that the first letter of 'offering' in the card text isn't capitalized?
yawn and yawn...
another set filled with cards that - GASP- won't be in every degenerate net deck to gaurentee a 3 turn kill!
What could Wizards be thinking? trying to flesh out a set with cards that have flavor and style... what a joke, right?
i love that the game attracts creative people whocan think outside of the box and spot patterns and strategies that would baffle most people... it's just too bad that the game also attracts the idiots that think that every card in every set should be a bomb.
for my personal take on BOK?
very very nice. green gets some really cool cards (a 1 CC creature that can block flyers and it gets tougher with each forest you drop? that's a gift to a green player)... red has some crazy interaction with arcane, making a redburn deck more difficult to deal with...
the set looks like it'll be fun to build with.
didja hear that?
fun...
imagine that...
