Guessing few, if any 1 mana cyclers this time around, so that deck might not be back, but since this also triggers off Fear of Missing Out and such, could still have a place.
Marauding Mako seems playable in Modern Hollow One decks since Flameblade Adept has the same size power boost but temporary and Dragon's Rage Channeler gets 3 power too late.
Where are all these sharkfolk and fishfolk pirates coming from? Not Ixalan.
According to the Planeswalkers guide, they were dropped off via temporary omenpath to Avishkar's coastal regions and just sort of made themselves at home there. It's not stated what their plane of origin was, but theyre essentially new permanent residents of Avishkar going forward.
What annoys me personally is that the chordatans aren't even a single race of sharks despite what the planeswalker's guide states. We've seen fishfolk (the swordfish), and some artworks show squidfolk and crabfolk.
I guess there's a Bloomburrow-like world somewhere out there that is inhabited exclusively by all sorts of aquatic races and not an even mix of different types (humanoid, tauroid, anthropomorphic, elemental kin, etc), like most worlds do. Maybe the plane is called Chordat and chordatans simply refers to the plane's inhabitants.
I'm going with Occam here and say that while Wizards will hire a cultural consultant just to take a dump, they won't hire a scientific consultant to fix their taxonomic classifications.

Chordatans are just the sharks. From the pw guide:
"The Keelhaulers of the Ghirapur Grand Prix are a rowdy bunch, a crew of humanoid sharks (called chordatans) and their air-breathing fishfolk and human comrades"
So fishfolk (naming convention suggests to me they could be from Bloomburrow?) are a distinct group that joined with the Chordatans.

Catering to people's ignorance is more profitable than confusing them with facts.

We'll see how long it lasts. Wizards has a really terrible memory when it comes to this kind of thing. I expect there at some point to be a creature called chordatan that depicts a fishfolk or whatever.
It's kind of weird anyway, because they're clearly from the same plane. Otherwise it'd be a massive coincidence if humanoid sharks, humanoid squid, humanoid (non-shark) fish and humanoid crabs had been dumped on Avishkar by pure chance. And if they're all from the same place, why not use a word that groups them all together, refering to their plane instead of a word that refers specifically only to one part of them?
Imagine fleets from the Brazen Coalition had been dumped on Avishkar and people would refer to them as orcs, despite the fact that they have sirens and goblins too. (Not to mention humans.)
By the way: They can't be from Bloomburrow, because all animalfolk there are specifically not anthropomorphic, while the chordatans clearly are.

There were apparently quite a few groups dropped off from various planes. Two of them happening to be aquatic doesn't seem like that wild a coincidence. And while Bloomburrow admittedly doesn't hold sole rights to the [animal]folk naming convention, the animals from there do have some concessions to practicality that move them towards a human appearance. Fish might just need a little extra help.

They are collectively referred to as Keelhaulers. The chordatans just seem to be the dominant group amongst them. So this would be more like some Sirens of the Brazen Coalition had been dumped on Avishkar and joined some local feathered creatures and Kari Zev and they collectively adopt a new name while the Sirens are called sirens.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Likely to avoid a Mongseng and Arkhos deal. I could see these being tested out for a ocean world (and this is the 3rd set we seen shark folk so I think thats also just magic trying out a new kind of animal folk in general) and they don't wanna name drop it ahead of time in case they find xyz reason the name wouldn't work.

Fish are non-sapient on Bloomburrow to give other animal folk a meat source along with bugs. Its only mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians that make up the animal-folk.

Hmm, and we had Loan Shark in OTJ, Bigfin Bouncer in Foundations...
Little weird they're called Chordatans, though. Sharks are chordates, but so am I.
That said, if there is an ocean plane, I prefer not to have these strange non-scientific creatures in it.

I wonder if there's a deck there.

At least that's what wizards believes.
