The first part of the multi-set Marvel crossover is this set of 5 Secret Lair drops. Each contains a new card featuring a fan-favorite Marvel character and some reskins worked around them (mostly for Commander purposes). As always with these drops with mechanically unique cards, the nonfoil version is $39.99 while the foil version is $49.99. Preorders open on November 4.
First up, Captain America.
The second one is Iron Man.
Next up, Wolverine.
Here's the one card that wasn't leaked, Storm.
And finally, the Black Panther.
Shipping for orders above $99 is free. For orders over $199, you get this reskinned Arcane Signet.
When I was a kid I drew Hawkman on my copy of commander eesha and built a voltron deck that aimed to equip him with [[vulshok morningstar]]. And now that the heroes are here for real, that feels like a really long time ago, and I'm just really tired.
Storm is cool and that vibranium mining thing is sweet, but these just don't hit right. I have a dedicated UB deck with all the weird ****, too. How can characters that are older than my grandma be so generic?

Latest proof this forum is a trashfire:
the Real negative is for players who do draft because 36 is divisible by 8
I need to point somethings out with the storm lair
1. They were really really… really lazy with the Jeska's Will variant it’s literally nearly exactly the same as the original art
2. Since storm gives cards storm important note in the lair they literally gave her a very very evil combo… ice storm…destroy a land, they legitimately gave storm a one sided Armageddon if you get the storm count big enough.

if the storm count is high enough for that to be a concern you were probably losing anyway.
I didn't notice it with Wolverine, but now i did with Storm... why the Homo Sapiens Superior are just Mutants, and not "Human Mutants"? They are clearly still human...

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

I'm not really into comics but isn't there a whole thing where humans discriminate against them because of being mutants? Maybe it was to make them feel separate as they are seen as such. Alternatively, it could be because they keep humans out of typing a lot. Things that were originally humans that became zombies, skeletons and vampires aren't listed as humans but other creatures get their types added to them, even human-like creatures like elves.
The art on that Rite of Passage has big generative AI vibes. If it wasn’t at least in part AI generated it’s just very sloppy. None of the details line up. Look at wolverine’s gloves and mask. The gloves are different lengths and the ears(or whatever) on the mask are different shapes. His boots and the stripes coming down his chest also don’t match. X-23 has some weird bit of extra mask that kind of floating there on her face and making her looks like she’s got weird sideburns. Both of them have weird posture that looks very awkward. Why is Wolverine sit-standing like that? Where is Laura’s shin and foot? It just kinda disappears. And why don’t the drones match? Why does one pointy bits on one side and flat bits on the other?
I didn't notice it with Wolverine, but now i did with Storm... why the Homo Sapiens Superior are just Mutants, and not "Human Mutants"? They are clearly still human...
Probably to differentiate between those mutated after birth like Spider-Man from those born mutants. I also expect to see the phrase "non-Human Mutant" on a Bolivar Trask or Sentinel card or something.

Yeah but i mean... they are still born out non-mutant humans, can reproduce with non-mutant humans and can have non-mutant babies... They are still Homo sapiens.
Feels weird to have things like glintwing invoker, novijen sages and Roalesk as humans, while Storm is not...

In some stories, like the famous Days of Future Past, Sentinels start to target non-Homo superior mutants too. They even start to predicted which "normal" Homo sapiens would give birth to a mutant baby and kill them before. A simply "destroy target Mutant" seems good enough for them.

Because the message of the comics is clear: These things are not Human and shouldn't have Human Rights. A strong stance for Wizards and Marvel to take.
Anyway... more likely is that hey found cards where they want multiple classes with a homo superior (see Wolverine) and cut Human from all of them (including Storm) to accommodate that. The reasoning will be similar to defaulting away from Human Zombie.
I don't expect Spider-Man to be a Mutant either. They have a clear branding interest to use Mutant in a very specific way in that franchise.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
I hadn't thought about it until right now, but the re-introduction of Hero as a creature type makes you wonder whether Villain will return as well?
Both were introduced in black-border, but then removed in the Great Creatuer Type Update, but until now have still been present on acorn. They make a thematic pair and the upcoming Marvel sets will be rife with opportunity for them. I'd bet on it.

ORORO Borealis? Maybe it is something specific to Marvel, should that not be Aurora?

So wait, they're doing this, AND theyr'e doing more crap with Spiderman???? How much goddamn marvel do we have to put up with?
I mean I like X-men, but I'm very anti UB, and I simply see no reason to do multiple product lines. Doesn't Marvel literally have its own TCGs? And it's owned by Disney, can't they just go over to Lorecana?
Definite facepalm moment with Ororo Borealis. I like storm, I like a bit of wordplay, and I like Manamorphose. But I don't want this to exist in card form.

It's been stated that there will be multiple "tent-pole" sets. A tent-pole set is like Duskmourn, Murders and Outlaws. So you can probably expect MTG: Marvel: Spider-Man, MTG: Marvel: X-Men and MTG: Marvel: Avengers at minimum. And maybe commander decks of Spidey, Spidey's Rogues, The Avengers, The X-Men, The Defenders, Cosmic Threats, Wannabe World Conquerors, maybe Guardians of the Galaxy? That's at least two sets of four commander sets.

Yeah, it's the kind of card you want to build around until you realize you rather don't. It's kinda funny when you realize that while the "official recommendations" (Ice Storm and Manamorphose) already seem somewhat questionable it's really just the tip of the ice berg. I 100% guarantee people will just LOVE 5 storm copies of Plow Under and that took me like 20 seconds to come up with. Some extra turns would probably also be great so you get to attack/storm in peace again, again and again...
Not having access to black is a bit of let down though. I feel having Yawgmoth's Will as backup for Underworld Breach would have made the card so much more FUN (black rituals are obviously also more fun than just red ones).

it also credits the awkward "Is Storm black?" question

Yeah that's quite some rabbit hole. Let's just say i take green as him being part martian, where i reside "being blue" is slang for "being drunk" and there's another mana symbol i won't comment on as that would likely get me into almost as much hot water as the original question, so Storm is seemingly a drunk half martian of mysterious descent. Pheew, bullets being dodged.
Black Panther, Wakandan King seems like he'd be really good with Dryad Arbor and an infinite creature token strategy. His second ability is very similar to The Ozolith except it costs 3 to activate and you gain life equal to the number of counters moved with drawing one card. Seems solid IMO. This card is even better If you're running cards that animate lands into creatures via Natural Affinity, Nature's Revolt, Ashaya, Soul of the Wild, etc.

Oh god! So there's gonna be as much Marvel as there is Magic in the next few years of Magic. This... hurts. A lot. Ouch. They really don't care about us do they?
Does anyone like this??? Does anyone want this?? Can we do a petition? Can we stop this atrocity?
Probably. If people are buying it they probably like it in some shape or form and if it wasn't for people spending money Hasbro wouldn't print it. There's probably a whole bunch of people that couldn't care less if there was a picture of elmar fudd on the card as long as it has some effect they desire though. To bad we have very little chance to find out where these cards actually end up. Recently i saw a collection being sold that was pretty much nothing but LOTR cards. The guy spent quite a bit of money but seemingly decided to quit not to long after the LOTR crossover went out of the spotlight. I kind of wonder how often this kind of scenario is happening or in case of these secret lair UBs how many people buying those are actually going to play at all. I'm not really all that sold on the broaden-player-base-by-incorporating-different-IPs argument but then there's little to no data available to would point one way or the other.
Again it's hard to say but given that fact that i've never listened to anyone go on about how Magic would be so much better if they could just cast Spiderman i don't really feel like there was a lot of straight up organic demand. I feel it's rather the kind of product some people buy when they notice that it's available for reasons that noone (at least in the general public) can really pinpoint.
So wait, they're doing this, AND theyr'e doing more crap with Spiderman???? How much goddamn marvel do we have to put up with?
This co-operation from the very beginning sounded to be at least as big as the LotR co-op. Considering how many individual comic series there are and how neatly they can be grouped any surprise this is much bigger should be mostly mild.

Hilariously... I do. I have 64 EDH decks (2 for every color combo) and my pride and joy, cream of the crop is 5C Avengers (IT'S NOT SUPERFRIENDS). It's helmed by Heimdall/Bifrost Bridge. There's only 7 artifacts: The Infinity Gauntlet, and six others representing the Stones. Each of the Planeswalkers represents one of the Avengers at the battle in Endgame. My Primevals' Glorious Rebirth is Hulk's Snap, bringing back all the heroes. Each land is to represent a location we visited over the entire MCU from Iron Man to Endgame (there's even a Culver University).
Now, I think just read somewhere that these are smaller sets, so maybe more like Assassin's Creed than Lord of the Rings, which would be good because I was trying to imagine how you design a 350+ card set where most creatures are legendary. If it's only 100 cards for Spider-Man, I can see doing the Spider-verse, his Rogues, everyone's abilities as sorceries and instants, storylines (like Clone Saga, Inheritors or Back in Black) as Sagas, and citizens and low-level thugs as common cards. The biggest issue I see is getting the as-fan of Spideys up.

You are not alone with this. The best thing about UB is that i'm unlikely to see them much as basically my whole group literally despises them.
