Maybe I'm missing something here, but what's to stop you from decking yourself if your opponents all have decent to high life totals?

Nothing, you need to draw into more damage if their life exceeds the number of cards left in your deck. Unlike Niv/Curiosity, you cannot stop and need to find an instant to do it.
