Just kinda wondering if this has actually been lost to time? Prodigal Sorcerer is nicknamed "Tim", after the "Tim the Enchanter", a wizard portrayed by John Cleese in the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, who had a talent for fire-based magic and damaging things. The nickname "Tim" has inspired nicknames for other pingers, such as Rod of Ruin ("Tim on a stick"), Hermetic Study ("Tim on a whim"), Pirate Ship ("Tim on a ship"), Rootwater Hunter ("Tim who can swim", "swim Tim", or "fish Tim"), Thornwind Faeries ("flying Tim"), and Zuran Spellcaster ("Zim" or "icy Tim").
This is old Magic slang. Got me feeling like Old Fogey over here.
Would have loved to have picked these up, but they sold out damn near immediately and the scalpers are already charging double on ebay.
Wasn't the whole point of Seret Lairs that you pre-order them,so they can be printed to demand? Am I just now learning that there is a Drop Series sub-brand of the Secret Lair sub-brand and not all of them work like that? Seems like the latter.

it was now it isn't and the reason they did this was because of are complaints of taking forever for are secret lairs to arrive in mail so this is so they can send them out sooner
And as of this lair this is the first one that maro is actually gonna address that limited secret lairs are even worse

They were originally print to order, yes. Problem is, since they couldn't print anything until after the window to order closed, combined with the horrid shipping issues coming out of the pandemic, it was taking people 6-8 months to get their orders. So they switched to limited print runs, completely ignoring the fact that doing so allows scalpers to sell them out right away and resell them for exorbitant amounts.
Unfortunately, this is all still run by the money vampires at Hasbro/WotC, so it makes no difference to them WHO buys the drops if they sell out that fast - a sell-out is a sell-out. Really, all it does for them is guarantee that theyre going to sell every single unit every single time, rather than any unpopular drop underperforming, so they have no incentive to stop.
Just sucks for those of us who dont win the lottery of being able to purchase then. In this particular case, I had to pay my mortgage the day the release dropped (monday), and got paid again today (friday). Had it still been print to order, I'd have bought both today. Instead, ill likely never get them outside of a rare trade or something.
I'd like to live in a place where my mortgage would be $30.
I hear that. Hell, id like to live someplace where my average paycheck allowed me to not have to worry about whether or not I had $30 to spare after paying my mortgage.
But seeing as neither of those cases are likely or common anymore, I'd settle for living in a world where companies didn't thumb their noses at people who would still willingly give them money.

I feel like the "complaints about secret lairs taking forever to arrive" thing was mostly just an excuse for Wizards to justify the switch to limited print runs. The real reason is because it looks better to investors and corporate bigwigs when drops sell out within 2 hours of release. I don't actually know anyone who was legitimately pissed off about the long wait times associated with the print-to-demand model; the most I heard was just slight annoyance at having to wait.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Maybe that's the reason I'm not an investor. I'd look at 10,000 limited-print-runs units selling out vs. 16,000 print-to-demand units sold (but not sold out, because printed to demand) and would think "Oh, 60% more units sold means more income."

It kinda bothers me that WotC now have no problem to make in the rule text the name of the re-flavored card instead of the actual name, but it does not when it comes to referring tokens (Castle of Aaaargh still refer to create a token named Marit Lage, despite being reflavored as The Black Beast of Aaargh in the actual card). kinda ruin the flavor immmersion.

It's all the complaints I saw about the previous model, and people complain about Secret Lair more than they do for any one format. The Sheldon Secret Lair taking 5 months to ship from ordering was on the short side of waiting. Between pandemic shipping issues and that Secret Lair deck taking two years to ship, the complaints were legitimate. The problem is WotC loves solving problems with other problems.

I can almost guess/wager that the bonus cards will be "the killer rabbit" in one and the "Holy Hand Grenade" in another.
