Before previews for Bloomburrow officially begin, I thought it would be fun to do another of my Duelist-style teasers where I give tiny hints of things to come. Note that I’m only giving you partial information.
First up, here are some things you can expect:
• A new mechanic which is a tweak on a mechanic from 2013
• “Destroy target creature” (a spell with only this rules text) gets a new mana cost
• A cycle of uncommon lands that each reference four creature types
• Counters in the set: +1/+1, blight, coin, finality, flood, flying, indestructible, loyalty, stash, stun, and supply
• A noncreature subtype makes its first return
• A ten-card cycle that acts as typal glue
• Two mechanics that came out in the same set return each part of a different two-color archetype
• The word “Squirrels” shows up four times in rules text
• A mythic cycle with a new symbol
• One of the cutest mechanics we’ve ever made
Next, here are some rules text that will be showing up on cards:
• “Create X tokens that are copies of target token you control.”
• “If you control a Raccoon, you may discard a card.”
• “Creatures your opponents control have base toughness 1.”
• “Whenever one or more other creatures you control leave the battlefield without dying,”
• “if it’s the first instant spell, the first sorcery spell, or the first Otter spell”
• “put a flood counter on target land.”
• “where X is the number of creatures you opponents controlled that were exiled this turn.”
• “for each other Squirrel and/or Food you control.”
• “As long as there are four or more card types among cards exiled with CARDNAME,”
• “up to one target artifact, creature, or planeswalker an opponent controls loses all abilities until your next turn.”
Finally, here are some names in the set:
• Crumb and Get It
• Festivals of Embers
• Hop to It
• Kitnap
• Playful Shove
• Polliwallop
• Rabid Gnaw
• Shrike Force
• War Squeak
• Wishing Well
Tune-in to our official YouTube and Twitch channels (youtube.com/@mtg antwitch.tv/Magic and) at 9:00 am PT on Tuesday, July 9 as Bloomburrow previews begin.
I have a feeling the tweaked mechanic from 2013 will be from one of the Ravnica sets or m13. My guess is Populate but mixed with the Army mechanic. "If you control no creatures that share a creature type, create a 1/1 token thats your choice of creature type. If you control two or more creatures that share a creature type put a +1/+1 counter on the token."
Oops realized Return to Ravnica came out in 2012. But Dragon's Maze had some populate cards in it.
The one from the list that seems the most likely is heroic, maro has talk quite a bit of remaking that popular mechanic,
A cycle of uncommon lands that each reference four creature types
maro they already showed this one at the convention
Counters in the set: +1/+1, blight, coin, finality, flood, flying, indestructible, loyalty, stash, stun, and supply
ok if this is within W or B colors and nothing else, and can target opponents creatures this might potentially bring huge attention to Athreos, Shroud-Veiled
A noncreature subtype makes its first return
I got a idea for this one
im Gonna the first appearence this type is in ……… the fallout commander decks
I think it's “Junk” on thr gruul commander deck's description it mentions “ Make Trash” so I’m willing to bet the deck will be animating “junk” tokens just like the bant clue deck did with “Clue” tokens in MKM
Two mechanics that came out in the same set return each part of a different two-color archetype
trying to remember two mechanics that premiered in the same set. Any ideas?
A mythic cycle with a new symbol
oooooh new symbols are always interesting… im interested to see it can stick in future sets or I has to go to modern horizons territory.
One of the cutest mechanics we’ve ever made
ok I think this one was leaked
They call it “Gift” basically if you do the Group hug effect is said for the leaked card case a tapped 1/1 fish
if you do the group hug effect it you get a stronger effect if you don’t it weaker
the cute part is probably there’s some adorable effects with this.
“Create X tokens that are copies of target token you control.”
“Whenever one or more other creatures you control leave the battlefield without dying,”
oh hohohohoho my Garth One-eye flicker deck is already so ready for a include of this card. (Depends on effect ofcoarse)
“put a flood counter on target land.”
more flood counters so let’s see if we get any island synergy as well.
“where X is the number of creatures you opponents controlled that were exiled this turn.”
let’s see if I’m group hugging with my flicker deck (targeting stuff without a ETB ofcoarse)
Creature – Hamster Citizen
YAY MORE HAMSTERS! I was hoping for More ever since “Boo” from Minsc, Beloved Ranger
Creature – Skunk Assassin
A WHAT ASSASSIN! what is it with all of these new creature card subtypes!
Creature – Rabbit Mouse
how’s that possible? They all look like generic animals you mean to tell a couple are mutated?
Legendary Creature – Badger Warrior
Maro we know this one it’s “hugs”
Legendary Creature – Weasel Mercenary
WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?! there’s being a monster large amount of new creature types from the last few sets.
Legendary Creature – Bird Dragon
oh wow … my conspiracy theory might be on to something
this is Kolaghan from Tarkir
now before you say that’s not a bird. I want to remind any Omenpath or Plaesnwalker visitors that enter Bloomburrow turn into animals so dragons might be turned into birds with the dragon traits still intact and here’s a even further explanation
(Note: its missing the "Elder" type but it could be another legendary dragon from the Kolaghan brood but it could be a kolaghan from the dragon alternate universe before kolaghan became a dragon lord.)
My guess is "Creature – Rabbit Mouse" will just be a mono-white card with a rabbit and mouse working together a la March of the Machine team up cards to help with typal stuff.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"

First up, here are some things you can expect:
• A new mechanic which is a tweak on a mechanic from 2013
As mentioned by others, this includes Heroic, and MaRo has recently explicitly stated that there will be a new version of that mechanic in 'an upcoming set'. So I'm pretty confident this is that mechanic.
• “Destroy target creature” (a spell with only this rules text) gets a new mana cost
I'm guessing or sorcery.
• Counters in the set: +1/+1, blight, coin, finality, flood, flying, indestructible, loyalty, stash, stun, and supply
I wonder if any of these will be part of a larger theme other than +1/+1 counters. I'm guessing stash and supply counters could be a mechanic. The names feel thematic and counter related mechanic feel appropriate for woodland critters for the community and ecosystem aspects of it. Blight counters could also be a mechanic as the threat of the set, but I don't know if they would emphasise it like that?
• A noncreature subtype makes its first return
Hmm so my list of possibilities for this would be
Artifacts- Fortifications or Junk
Enchantments- Roles or Classes
Instants and sorceries- Lessons
• A ten-card cycle that acts as typal glue
Pretty sure these will be team up cards between different critters.
• Two mechanics that came out in the same set return each part of a different two-color archetype
Tricky one...
Populate and Scavenge?
Rebound and Umbra armour?
Bolster and/or Rebound and/or Dash?
Mentor and Convoke?
Alliance and shield counters?
• A mythic cycle with a new symbol
A symbol for the Calamity Beasts? Or something connected to this 'dragonstorm arc'? Dragons?
Rabbit Mouse is likely a team-up card, like in MoM. Remember there's a 10 card uncommon cycle that is tribal glue. These team-ups could be signpost/tribal glue uncommons.
Wishing Well could be similar to Witching Well. Surveil instead of scry?
My guess is a cycle of 10 hybrids with a way to be compatible with your drafted type. Either a form of changeling or they batched all 10 creatures types, or you choose a type as it enters.

March of the machines set gives the answer
those are probably team up cards (legendarys thats two legends on one card.)
I wonder if there'll be a cycle of the mix and match creature types or if rabbit and mouse are just the ones whose limited archetypes are typal and needed a little extra "glue".
Cards that only say "Destroy target creature" have previously cost 1BB, 3B and 2BB I am hoping for BB here, but there are quite a few other, less interesting possibilities.

Yeah, I'm expecting limited fodder that costs 3BB or even 4BB. But at least it's an instant!
I'll call that they go for the definitive power-creep of costing only 1B at instant speed and give any other removal more bonuses for higher mana cost. Unlikely but dreaming cost nothing.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
My guess is that the hints about the Rabbit Mouse creature type and the typal glue cycle are connected.
They could make ten cards, each with a combination of two creature types that share a colour. In that case, the Rabbit Mouse would be Naya colours, costed something like (R/G)W, so it would be playable in both the GW Rabbit and the RW Mouse decks.

It would be so much easier to just make the card mono-white, still fits in both red-white and green-white. Tribal glue is supposed to be open to many decks, so it wold be preferable to be also usable in e. g. a deck mixing Mouse- and Bat-oriented cards.

This could be. However, a ten card cycle implies it is either guild colours or wedges & shards.

I think this theory just won
Hugs Is a gruul legend that’s the raccoon archtype colors
With a hybrid wedge/shard system, a ten card cycle boils down to only 1 possible option to balance both color and creature type. (I tried to do the Hybrid Mana, but for some reason the formatting isn't working.)
Bant - Rabbit Frog (Center G)
Esper - Bird Bat (Center W)
Grixis - Rat Lizard (Center B)
Jund - Raccoon Squirrel (Center G)
Naya - Rabbit Mouse (Center W)
Abzan - Bat Squirrel (Center B)
Jeskai - Bird Otter (Center U)
Sultai - Rat Frog (Center U)
Mardu - Lizard Mouse (Center R)
Temur - Raccoon Otter (Center R)
EDIT: I think it's probably more likely that the cards will be Mono-Color. (A white Rabbit Mouse card and a white Bird Bat card, for example).

Fair, there are several unlikely, but far more interesting possibilities in there too.

thanks to someone on a discord I got a line up for this
Mechanics from 2013: Cipher, Bloodrush, Extort, Batallion, Evolve, Fuse, Bestow, Devotion, Heroic, Scry, Monstrosity.
The one from the list that seems the most likely is heroic, maro has talk quite a bit of remaking that popular mechanic,

first Ocelot Pride and now this.
oh I really hope this is a static effect on a permanent I really want to see the reactions of Arcades, the Strategist and Doran, the Siege Tower players when they see this.

Oh I knew they couldn't resist using that for a card name because of frog typal
… ok I’m defintiely calling out wizards on this you replace “llop” with a “g”
It spells “Polliwag” a Pokémon name
I can already guess this will be a Wishclaw Talisman or Ring of Three Wishes type of effect.
Err, polli*** is an old term for tadpole...
It gets censored? Lol. Lmao.
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
you know what i forgot about that
theres probably some team up cards in the set

Yeah this is probably the gift mechanic.
RUNIN: Norse mythology set (awaiting further playtesting)
FATE of ALARA: Multicolour factions (currently on hiatus)
Contibutor to the Pyrulea community set
I'm here to tell you that all your set mechanics are bad
#Defundthepolice
could be that offspring one from the jeskai deck
Rabbit Mouse is likely a team-up card, like in MoM. Remember there's a 10 card uncommon cycle that is tribal glue. These team-ups could be signpost/tribal glue uncommons.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
Factions: Sleeping
Remnants: Valheim
Legendary Journey: Heroes & Planeswalkers
Saga: Shards of Rabiah
Legends: The Elder Dragons
Read up on Red Flags & NWO

so the raccoon archtype might be impulse drawing
They didn't think that one through it seems, who needs an assassin that you'd definitely smell coming?

it’s a she and her name is……………………kiki
