When you cast this spell, target opponent exiles half their library, rounded up.
Ward–Sacrifice two permanents.
Ulamog, the Defiler enters the battlefield with a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the greatest mana value among cards in exile.
Ulamog has annihilator X, where X is the number of +1/+1 counters on it.

Oh boy! I think we definitely found the chase uncommon/remand of the set this just shuts down the pitch spells and Omniscience. and for a cherry on top you can find it with Urza's Saga

That Bauble nerfs the obvious pitch spells but also affinity and 0 mana spells from Moxes to Memnites. Shuts down Torrential Gearhulk types, cascade/discover, suspend, hideaway, plot, rebound, battles. Not bad for 1 mana.

And you can cycle it too.

I'm in love with that bauble, damn it's wild

Ahaha, so a puny uncommon can hose double Grief shenanigans if you're going first, I love it. The new Ulamog is obviously insane, but I'm not sure if it will replace Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger in Tron decks, exiling two permanents on cast is a better deal than dropping a guy that still needs to swing once...to win on the spot as you have to sacrifice maybe your entire board to the Annihilator effect.

i feel like the bauble may lead to issues in eternal formats. it works essentially like defense grid or 3ball that is stops any free counterplay so combo decks now need to instead spend only 1 mana for a card that replaces itself if needed. the fact you get it for free with saga that is often used as plan b for those decks does not help the issue. the most efficient way up to this day to remove artifacts was fov and this stops it.

while it stops grief on the play, when you have it in opening hand, you can still get dinged with grief on the draw. albeit then it still does its thing against bunch of cards and replaces itself.

Vexing Bauble can easily be tutored via Urza's Saga and has high value impact in cEDH where free counterspells are rampant. It also shuts down Omniscience and Aetherworks Marvel.

Forgot to mention that Vexing Bauble also hard counters Storm decks since copied spells are cast for free while they're on the stack. This card is everything Chalice of the Void wanted to be but better, it cantrips itself, and can be recast for 0 from your graveyard with Helm of Awakening and Auriok Salvagers so it doesn't counter itself to it's own ability.

Pretty sure it does nothing against storm. Storm is a triggered ability and it creates copies of the spell. I mean storm reminder text says the already-cast spell is copied, not copy-the spell-card-and-then-cast-the-copies-for-free .

Gatherer: "Rulings 08/12/2022 The copies are put directly onto the stack. They aren't cast and won't be counted by other spells with storm cast later in the turn."

Thanks for the ruling clarification rowanalpha. Though Vexing Bauble does nothing against Storm decks it's still really solid where free casting is prevalent in Modern and cEDH. Vexing Bauble also doesn't affect permanents that are put directly onto the battlefield since it only checks If they've been cast. If the oracle text on a card says that you can cast this card or particular cards without paying it's mana value / mana cost then Vexing Bauble triggers.
