The Lost Caverns of Ixalan preview show starts a bit over ten minutes after this thread goes up. As always, this thread will be updated as new cards are shown.
Yikes, discover is an improved cascade where you can put the card into your hand? No more awkward cascading into a counterspell or other irrelevant cards. Cascade was already strong, this is even better.
So Descend is like Threshold with a variable value rather than a fixed (7). And Cascade II, so nice to see you. I like that version a lot better, and that 4RRR spell isn't so bad, makes whiffing on it tolerable. I think I'm gonna like this. Keeps my energy focused rather than scattered thanks to the ad nauseam releases of UB product as of late.

HR Analyst. Gamer. Activist | Fearless, and forthright | Aggro-control is a mindset. Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
The Mycotyrant seems like a plausible addition to the modern dredge decks.\
I fear that the finality counters, if they become the new de-facto way of wording that ability might backfire given that removing counters from cards is a thing. I guess it is niche enough not to worry too much.
Question: Locus of Enlightenment, if it exiles multiples planeswalkers: is each ability of the planeswalker considered independently, meaning you can activate all of them once (first the plusses to get loyalty, then spend the loyalty as you want on the minuses...). Seems completely broken. (Then again, costs 9 mana to do...)
Not sure I like how descend is like three mechanics at once... Maybe it'll click later.
Ojer Taq and Mycotyrant would make for a nice tag team if they weren't so mana-intensive.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
(Each spoiler tag is reviewing in the ixalan parts is atleast 5 cards
Sparkless Saheeli: cool she’s basically a izzet Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker for UR mana more in the ability it hits artifacts as well.
quintorious: ok that’s it it’s inetivable now people will start requesting a 5-color cast from exile Matters legend now
Abuelo: that’s awesome for my 5-color flicker deck it’s basically mistmeadow witch but this one’s harder to get rid of, this can do artifacts, and cherry on top, the ability is 1 less
ojer: TRIPLE TOKENS!?!?!?! Atleast the price won’t be back breaking like Mondrak, Glory Dominus (1. Only triples creature tokens, 2. Can't be indestructible, 3. The flip is attacking with three creatures)
Prairie: ah I know what these are it’s the ally versions of the mainlands we got in wilds of eldraine and also..
Capybara and snails are introduces and it gets even better……… we’re also getting llamas introduces as creatures (anyone tempted to make a llama card look like kuzco?)
growing rites reprint: OH WOW! THATS A AMAZING REPRINT to this day I pat myself in the back for getting this card cheap
malcom: ok there’s no way in no one will not use proliferate cards with this version of Malcom
the mistake (descend keyword): descend is very interesting I wonder if any of these cards can get a errata but it’s probably not due wordto “permanent” and “threshold” can see instants and sorceries
The mycrotyrant: here it is, the wait is finally over for a saporling and fungus tribal legend (before you say it Slimefoot, the Stowaway is saproling Tribal but doesn't see fungus creatures for its ability) and how descended is used here this defintely scream Ps it’s gonna be a way to shorten the wording for future cards/reprints
Discover mechanic: so that 2009 mechanic teaser was infact cascade and this may actually be better than cascade because you can put the wiffs into hand instead of the bottom of your library (in other words if you discover (cascade 2.0) a counterspell you can have it loaded for when you truely need it.)
Jewel/enlightment/craft mechanic: second times a charm for getting a new staple for my tazri, stalwart survivor deck this time I don’t see eternal format warping types of stuff like Agatha's Soul Cauldron did (craft is a pretty cool mechanic ic a risk and reward type of thing.)
Map tokens: brace for impact it’s likely new family member of the artifact tokens that can appear in most sets potentially (other members are treasure/food/clue/and probably blood)
Well/pools: ok wow that’s gonna be spicey I can already picture casting Nyxbloom Ancient with this.
Soul of the lost: wait a minute! That’s the closet thing to a black tarmogoyf this might be testable.
Cave type + confluence: honestly I’m kind of surprised “Cave” wasn't a land type earlier and we already get support for “Cave” cards. So what do you think guys will some of these lands cards get errata'd to have the “Cave” type?
Paleontologist: if that were to be put in Gishath I would have to put in flicker spells …… speak of the devil next card)
Gishath reprint: wow the water paint art of this reprint might be considerable to replace my orginal but still might use my OG art. (Atleast everyone has a second chance to get Gishath now also the most played naya commander according to edhrec.)
Bartolome: WHAT THE?!?!?! I’m sorry wizards are you insane. You just created an even better version of Carrion Feeder this one can do artifacts as well for W more.
Treasure map reprint: that warped standard let’s see if it does it again,
chart a course reprint: excellent this one is nice to see again.
Pirates: so you need blue flicker spells or counter removal with this version to remove those finality counters (based on reminder wording the exile instead of die part disappears if you remove the counter.)
vampire: already discussed this in the leak thread
merfolk: pretty scary since you can dig really deep with this. (I’m sure people are still waiting on a bant Merfolk tribal legend because of the lorwyn Merfolk.)
dinosaurs: ok this is the one I was waiting for and………:grin3: hoooly cow! The first one only but it’s a dinosaur version of the first sliver and they may or may have not made a brutal mistake but… do any of you notice the word “if you casted it” and “your turn” is missing from the ETB part. So you know what that means? We can use flicker spells to exploit the card to do this during opponents turns.
Life finds a way: I can tell you exactly why it saids “nontoken” for the ETB part it’s all because of polyraptor because if it didn,t have “nontoken” the game would end in a draw just like with Marauding Raptor anyway this is gonna be pretty back breaking especially with Quartzwood Crasher and Ghalta and Mavren and to also remind we got a bunch of 3/3 trample token makers in the first ixalan visit.
Command tower: might get the brontosaurus art for the Gishath deck to make it flavorful
Tyrannosaurus: it’s easier to get rid of but this is much Nasiter version of The Tarrasque attack trigger
Ellie and Alan: ok so basically bant discover/cascade creature based deck. Not to shabby
Dino dna holy smokes! It’s more expensive to activate but… this absolutely smashes mimic vat like a bug
indomaraptor: wow sad I can't put this in Gishath but since it’s B this really gives me hope the Jurassic park/world cards will give better access to UB dinosaurs so 5-color dinosaurs is more viable.
No, it says that each ability can be used only once per turn, so my question still stands about exiling multiple planeswalkers.
Ugh, you are correct. I read it a few times and still managed to misread the card.

I think the Jurassic T-Rex has an error in its Devour ability. Should be either “3 times” or 3 for each creature devoured, not “3 times for each creature devoured” which exponentially increases the size.
Under the wording as printed, if you sacrifice two creatures it would come into play with an extra +12/+12 [edited], and if you sacrificed three creatures it would have an extra +27/+27.
Actually, for two sacrificed create it would be +12/+12. "Three times that many +1/+1 for each creature", means 3 x # of creatures x # of creatures, or 3C², with C = # of creatures.
You only get one activation of a loyalty ability from a permanent per turn. This used to be part of the rules of planeswalkers, but now applies to all permanents regardless of type if they happen to gain one or more loyalty abilities. The new artifact just adds an additional restriction on top of that, which usually doesn't matter for loyalty abilities on an artifact.

Seems completely broken. (Then again, costs 9 mana to do...)
The Comprehensive Rules say this for loyalty abilities (e.g. whatever Agatha's Soul Cauldron with Grist, the Hunger Tide exiled puts on your creatures with +1/+1 counters on them):
209.2. An activated ability with a loyalty symbol in its cost is a loyalty ability. Loyalty abilities follow special rules: A player may activate a loyalty ability of a permanent they control any time they have priority and the stack is empty during a main phase of their turn, but only if none of that permanent’s loyalty abilities have been activated that turn. See rule 606, “Loyalty Abilities.”
Nope, only one loyalty ability per turn per Locus of Enlightenment period.
Craft, descent and explore paint a picture of what the set will care about: A typical graveyard set with self-mill (explore) and sacrifice/looting fueling a threshold-style mechanic (descent) and a mechanic pulling you into the other direction using the graveyard as a resource (craft), but with a very different flavor treatment than one might expect from such a theme.
Discover seems like a top-down addition to the set to complement explore. It has some synergy as it can give you two nontoken permanents for one card (notably tokens won't suffice for descent), so it's not entirely orthogonal to the other mechanics.
I'm not certain what to make of the double-duty of TDFCs as cards with craft and cards that transform into lands. Seems a little unfocused. Is this the world you expected to see a mechanic named craft? It's not wrong, but a little all-over-he-place compared to descending, exploring and discovering, which all paint a very similar picture.
Finality counters are boring work horses, but they are here to stay and will help make the next unearth-variant or persist-variant. I hope there is just a random card in the sets that puts a finality counter on every permanent it damages, just because they now can do that.
The names of legendaries are increasingly continuing to blur. I recall a time when I actually cared about what a legendary character was doing in the story and how the mechanics reflect aspects of their lore.
It's interesting to see that the Map token reminder text uses and refuses to elaborate. That's a red flag to me. I'm a bit worried about the complexity of this set. There are very many things that are individually small pings on the complexity-reader, but they add up quickly.

Good catch, thanks. The card is definitely printed incorrectly.
Well on finality counters it’s still technically abusable for 2 reasons
1. Flicker effects
2. The reminder text about the counter mentions “creatures with a finality counter” you have something like hex parasite in play you can remove the problem.
I was expecting fixed cascade, but that is just more flexible cascade and why is there someone whose name is just "Grandpa."
At this point, I expect a "Discover 0" or "Discover 1" statement on a 1-2-mana-value card. Yeah, Discover is too flexible alright.
To be fair, there's an important character named "Grandpa" in the first Klonoa game (no better name is ever given!) and another supporting character named "Gramps" in Final Fantasy Dimensions (better name eventually given).
