Troll is perfect after a turn 1 swampcycle to Animate Dead or other similar card. Gimli's Fury was meant for small, adorable, yet quick to anger Boo (of Minsc and Boo fame).
Gimli's Fury seems solid. I will never say no to instant speed trample for my commander. I know in the book (which they are drawing from) it wasn't the troll that stabbed Frodo, but some mechanical reference would have been fun

It was a Nazgûl that stabbed Frodo. It was already represented in the black enchantment, Morgul-Knife Wound.
