I understand diffusing the situation, but the bigger issue here was the response from WOTC IMO.
Right, he absolutely should not have been put in that situation in the first place. I was merely objecting to WMP saying that his compliance implies guilt or ignorance.
Again, a stern email from Wizards' legal team could probably have gotten the job done.
Yup, they'd have to issue a court-ordered warrant to me to get those cards back.
Which leads me to believe he bought them off someone shady who indeed did steal them (from WotC or off a distributor) and offloaded the hot merchandise on him with his knowledge of such. If it was indeed a simple mistake he would have every right to demand law enforcement serve the search warrant and seizure, not some private mercs. He is either totally unaware of his rights, or in on an actual scam/theft/scheme. Again nothing but his word so we will never know.
He hasn't really proven to be all that trustworthy either. In his first video he mentions he got these from a friend, now he's saying these were a distributor mistake. There's also the really stupid idea of loudly pretending he has no idea the cards weren't shown off yet. It's not send-the-Pinkertons stupid, but still.
Yes there is always more to a story than what is presented. If he is doing something clandestine WotC/Hasbro should have sent actual law enforcement. Epic fail on both ends if this is really a true story and not some internet fabrication. We don't know all the details for sure.

Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
I always have to roll my eyes when people go "omg, why didn't they do this thing which we wouldn't know they had done if they did do it? so stupid!" Like... If they HAD sent a stern letter from a lawyer to him, how would we ever know. What if the escalation was the first time we hear about it instead of the first step WotC took?
Like, I'm not taking a stance here, but it's fascinating that people's first reaction to something not making sense at first blush, is to assume that they are simply smarter than the other party/person instead of maybe not having the whole picture.

I mean he did say his supplier was a friend in an earlier video, one that was taken down, so this isn't exactly a contradiction, but in general I agree. He did try to push a narrative that didn't mesh with what he said and did. He has an entire youtube channel/profile dedicated to Magic and doesn't follow preview season? Yet in one of the taken-down videos he explicitly stated that he did know next to no cards of Aftermath had been previewed yet and that the Kenrith's Funeral was the first. So clearly he was following preview season and he must have known what it would mean to spoil an entire set beforehand. Claiming ignorant of all these things and/or their consequences is extremely suspicious.
My personal theory is that they didn't specifically send the pinktertons after him specifically but simply wanted to find out where the leak was, either with his supplier or his supplier's supplier, which of course meant he was part of the investigation. Interestingly this is what he stated as well, sooooo.
Also, it is trespassing for knocking on someone's door now??? JFC... Remind me to never set foot in the US.
First video was Thursday, Pinkertons video was Saturday (and he says later they showed up Friday). If they tried any other methods, they sure didn't spend much time on them. He has also claimed in another video that they did not contact him, but that's just his word.
That said, I should soften a little bit. I doubt Wizards said exactly how to go about the investigation, so blame for distress caused would lie mostly with the Pinkertons. Going to his house and asking for the product back is not an inherently unreasonable act, nor is it it in any way illegal.
I'm happy to hear Training Grounds is getting reprinted in a set with so few cards and even duplicates in the boosters. It it drops to an attainable price.
I litterally just bought one last week. Well, s**t happens!
I saw the reprint literally before buying one, I don't have this luck normally
Yup, they'd have to issue a court-ordered warrant to me to get those cards back. No Slivers in Aftermath, I can sit this one out too. I'm excited about the Sliver Swarm precon deck headed our way, I'm saving my money for that.
Now that you mention it, it's pretty weird slivers weren't involved in any of this supposedly totally massive mega ultra multiverse spanding world ending nobody is safe scenario. You'd figure the phyrexians would come across some slivers at this level of invasion stuff right? same with Eldrazi, but it looks like they're waiting with them. (Still very surprised and a bit disappointed we didn't see Emrakul released and have Eldrazi vs Phyrexians taking each other out)
Silvers are by design parasitic and need a minimum bar of support to make them work, versus all the other stuff that they can throw into a set from different worlds, slivers are probably more trouble than they are worth.

While that is correct if you're going to have something that affect many planes then you're going to make the audience wonder why certain things were left out. As for the problem with slivers one simple solution would be to have it compleated and have it affect both slivers and phyrexians, allowing for tribal support for limited/constructed and a nice call back that adds something to already cemented types and deck.

Across all the many planes that were featured in MoM, there's a lot of things to include that people might wonder about. There was always going to a number of things left out. We'll see slivers again sometime.

Yeah but I mean... slivers man. It's weird they're not even mentioned once or depicted in the background of some art or something.
It could also have been shown in a way like Phyrexians conquering slivers instead of having their asses handed to them completely and completely losing everything. It would at least show that phyrexians were somewhat capable if they were strong enough to eliminate slivers. Now they got their asses kicked in every instance. Even by bloody fairies lol.

And you are correct, not everything can be included, but this set could have been increased by one to accommodate it, and in all honesty I'm sure a sliver would have been preferred to many over one of the many deep cuts that didn't mean all that much.
Then again with this set being sort of the middle and end of this particular story they could have stretched this another two sets, Aftermath could have been the "core set" of the year and push us into this "new era that changes everything." Then there could have been those chances to include such things, but I guess that can't be changed now and I'm sure even suggesting that means WotC will send people after me for even thinking of it.

It's a recurring issue with MtG villains. Remember when Bolas brought the eternals to Ravnica? You know, this army composed of the best of the best, the cream of the crop(s), literally the best group of fighters the multiverse has seen, enhanced by lazotep and undeath?
WotC keeps defeating their villains before they even get a single win. It's a classic case of tell-don't-show. "Let us introduce a new villain, the Phyrexians. They're very powerful. Now let's see how they are defeated." It happened with the eternals and it happened now with the Phyrexians. And don't think it won't happen again.
WotC wants to show their brands planeswalkers to be badasses with cool quips on their lips. But what they don't realize is that by diminishing their villains, they also diminish their heroes. Defeating a villain who trips over their own shoelaces is not badass, it's not cool. Hopefully Wizards will realize this.
The only time they treated their villains like an actual threat were the Eldrazi, probably because they were cosmic horrors and it would have felt weird to have them lose to mundane weapons and spells. (And let's not forget that even then Kozilek and Ulamog were defeated by a really big fireball.) But every villain who isn't a cosmic horror? Tough luck.

That always seems to be the problem with most scandals involving Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro nowadays is that we often get these notifications at face value from YouTube Pop Culture News Media Outlets like Clownfish TV yet we most often don't know the full story of what really happened which was the same with the Texas Landfill incident that happened not too long ago. It's as If Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro is testing to see how much negative press they can actively get away with while still trying to maintain whatever goodwill to their customers they have left especially after the disaster that was Magic 30 and despite criticisms from Bank of America they still believe that they haven't done anything wrong. The stock market says otherwise though.
If Hasbro stock goes down to $42 a share then I'd probably be more concerned. At the moment their stock is around $50 which still hasn't recovered from the damage Magic 30 did which they tried to rectify with the new Dungeons & Dragons movie that bombed at the box office. Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro could still turn things around without constantly shooting themselves in the foot every so often but it's getting to a point now where there needs to be a major shakeup within upper management. Maybe they need to start focusing on bringing in-person competitive events back at LGSs instead of at the convention level without putting all their eggs in one basket for EDH / Commander which is what they've been doing in the last few years.

It really is like Marvel movies. So many good actors get wasted playing the villain who doesn't even put a scratch on the heroes. Look what it took to stop Phyrexians on Dominaria back in the day. The whole world basically ended.
I'm just worried they're going to do it to the Eldrazi again when they decide to let Emrakul out for round two. I always liked Phyrexians all the way back as a kid (one of my favourite cards was Phyrexian Hulk from Tempest because I thought it looked cool) so I'm just disappointed in seeing it all go over so easily. I don't follow the story anyway other than what I can see on the cards. I've said it more than enough now anyway, so I'll just shut up hehe.

One of the problems of a set like this is there were way more compleated characters than we have space in the set. We have five gods, Koma, an entire army of dinosaur robots, some remaining Eternals, the entire faculty of Strixhaven (save Liliana, Embrose, and those two from the leaks), and a lot more. We could force a block again, but that would feel painfully dragging, and we already have enough people complaining that ONE was too much Phyrexia already.
It's not like there was ever a satisfying way to beat the Phyrexians. Last time, it involved a character breaking the 4th wall repeatedly to erase the fated Phyrexian victory ending.
Actually, Nassari was Compleated. She's the final antagonist at the end of the Strixhaven mini-sode of March of the Machine, and is responsible for the events that led to Quintorius sparking. The fact that she seems totally fine in the leaked card is also weird.

Don't worry, it will all make sense in MoM: Aftermath.

Reminds me of Yugioh "lore," where players infer the story from contradictory art with minimal context and completely random events, but no formal source.

They could have easily gone on in more detail in various sets that highlight the effects of the invasion as it happens to a few places per set, then have a build-up like MOM or Mom II. But I know from personal experience and observations people get impatient and finnicky if things are drawn out too long, which is why there was probably so much angst towards the Gatewatch during the Bolas arc.
But I will say the delivery of this was better than War of the Spark. I have a strong feeling that the next few sets for the 2024 line-up will feature planes that we have or have yet to visit and explain what transpired post-Invasion. If I remember correctly a few years ago someone on this forum (Might have been you, Ryperior) images of the logo and symbol for Shandalar. I'd expect something along those lines here on in at least for the next release year.
I'll be honest though, they do a great job for build up. But the climax and endings...they need work.

The thing with Bolas' eternals is a perfect example of the Inverse Ninja Law. One skilled ninja is pretty much always a Big Deal confrontation, but if the protag(s) get jumped by 30 of those mf's at once, they become guys who'd do poorly in a children's martial arts class.
Also, helloooooo singles market. Hasbro's not getting another dime from me until they profusely apologize for hiring the Pinkertons.

I'll admit that when I saw the guy opening up MAT packs (Mat Pat?!) like that I was like, "Are you sure you should be doing this?"
.
You reap what you sow. A bit extreme but still...
Exactly my point of view. The guy KNEW what he was doing, KNEW that he should probably not do it, but did it anyway to bolster his views. You reap what you sow, indeed.
The worst thing that came out of this is that now people are just parroting "PInKeRtOnS" on every magic social media post.
Yeah. This is immensely stupid and I am just surprised how many supposedly grown-ups are doing this. Also, making the guy a poor victim, innocent, almost martyr....like what?

It's not like there was ever a satisfying way to beat the Phyrexians. Last time, it involved a character breaking the 4th wall repeatedly to erase the fated Phyrexian victory ending.
Don't worry, it will all make sense in MoM: Aftermath.
I know! You'd think that the first thing Tamiyo wanted to do was make RoboEmrakul a thing!

Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
Also, helloooooo singles market. Hasbro's not getting another dime from me until they profusely apologize for hiring the Pinkertons.
You reap what you sow. A bit extreme but still...

Exactly my point of view. The guy KNEW what he was doing, KNEW that he should probably not do it, but did it anyway to bolster his views. You reap what you sow, indeed.
Yeah. This is immensely stupid and I am just surprised how many supposedly grown-ups are doing this. Also, making the guy a poor victim, innocent, almost martyr....like what?
I am sure that it will hurt them a lot
