Of note they said the Theros gods aren't being compleated themselves but being corrupted as their followers are being compleated.

"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
I like the idea here. Worst I can say is that I feel, phyrexianized characters/creatures used to have a more distinguished look. Heliod looks like just another mess with additional limbs.
Crazy though to see him dwarfed by the Invasion Tree.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

I wonder if we'll get multiple/all of the gods compleated like this, just a couple, or only Heliod. I'd be fine with that. As far as double-faced cards, I suspect if we don't get all the gods like this then we'll get a series of other legends, maybe one per color, that gets compleated/flipped by paying phyrexian mana.

this is the first set in history that has 1000(+) cards this will definitely be 10 car……actually maybe atleast 20 card cycle of tag team legends and DFC compleated legendary phyrexians (guild, shards and wedge colored legends of both maybe even 4-color)

Oh wait, what?! This set is over 1000 cards? That's nuts! I wonder what that's going to do for the availability of the cards and the secondary market prices of some of these. That's also pumping so many new cards into constructed formats at once, how could they even playtest that many cards?

Where did you see this?
It won’t be over a thousand cards. They’re doing the collector numbers as 0XXX instead of XXX/XXX, but regular Heliod is 0017 and fancy frame Heliod is 0293, and that lines up with number crunching in other premier sets.

So if the followers somehow worship a Theros god differently then it forces them to change physically? So if they thought of Heliod as a duck he'd become a duck? I understand Gods from Theros get their power from their followers devotion, but the change in appearance and changing the gods attitude I don't quite get.
Watch all the Innistrad humans just roll their eyes when Sigarda becomes compleated, leading the Host of Unification. Really, Innistrad is going to be interesting. It will be a waste not to show a compleated Werewolf, but Geists seem like a challenge.... Geistflame tech on the other hand...

I think the way it works is that the gods of Theros are magical embodiments of their followers’ beliefs. They have their own personalities and physical appearances, but they vaguely reflect the faith of their mortals. Before, Heliod was basically a reflection of regular Theran faith and culture. Now he reflects Phyrexian faith and culture. I don’t think mortals could just collectively decide one day that Heliod had blonde hair and it would happen, but his appearance and personality do reflect the beliefs that sustain him. Using your example, I don’t think if people thought he was a duck then he’d become a duck, but if people worshipped ducks instead of the sun, then he might be.

I felt it was more like those gods existed, they have their general appearance, and then gain/lose strength based on the number of devotees and their beliefs, but now it seems the devotees control the gods, and while you could make that case for their strength it didn't change the god's personality. In the case of Heliod he was a total a-hole even though his followers weren't.
This also coincides with the lore issues brought up. Heliod didn't have enough followers, it's why he more or less stopped being a god. I suppose we can assume Phyrexia compleated a bunch of random Therians(?) Therosians(?), doesn't matter, learned how the plane and its gods worked (which I doubt random citizens know), forced them to worship Phyrexia, but also worship Heliod, to then not only give Heliod enough strength to break out of the double hockey stick place, but also force him to worship Phyrexia and change......
I'm interested in how they'll explain Heliod's escape from the underworld? Perhaps Erebos decides that Heliod's assistance is critical, considering the common enemy, or devotion in the early stages of the invasion, which appears to begin in the skies, causes followers to cry out for Heliod's intervention, freeing him? The story team will also need to explain the restoration of Khrusor. And if memory of it among followers restored it, then will Thassa's spear eventually be shaped by former memory back into a coral Bident?
Although I cannot stand Phyrexian art, I love that I can solely play the front face of the constellation version of Heliod. The constellation art is great and his effect works well with my Theros deck. I love the epithet Radiant Dawn.
Aaaand it is like Theros Beyond Death never happened. Heliod has Khrusor back, and he is free.
Nobody cares anymore. Just wanting to see cool cards.
Assuming Theros gets a write-up in the storyline (which given the number of planes and story beats it needs to cover, isn't guaranteed), my guess would be that when the Phyrexians invade Heliod is released from his punishment. It appears to be a very much "all hands on deck" thing with even former enemies on planes banding together to fight off the invasions. As for the spear, maybe it's a new one or a replacement that got created by his followers re-worshipping him? (only to then all be lost when his followers get corrupted?)

There was a short story about Kruphix released around Journey into Nyx that talks about how much control belief has over the gods, even hinting that Heliod wasn't always the god of the sun. This was also part Ajani's crusade immediately after Elspeth's death, where he talks at length about how the people could change the gods by collective will. Basically, until Elspeth beat him years later, Heliod was thought of as the greatest of the gods, and so Heliod ego grew over generations.
Last time I checked, "oil" was not a favorite environment of a sea god (and anything living in seas, for the record).
Let alone that oil. This really is unfortunate. I am still hoping to see a pairing with Arixmethes, though. Another 12/12!
Here's to them explaining Heliod's escape and restoration of Khrusor, though. And if the reason is devotion belief remembering and re-creating his spear, why isn't Thassa's Bident restored? Even the constellation artwork from THB depict her with a Bident instead of an iron fishing spear.

First of all, the rules of theros ide(i)ntity do not technically exists, the creative team just gives the impression of the rules existing for the sake of lore building. They must be taken with a wide mind, not with strict coherence.
That said, inside said "rules" for deity on theros, MAYBE after the imprisonment of Heliod his believers were beginning to fall down in numbers. I mainly suppose this because a God with lots of believers would free themselves, I suppose... Probably with so few believers it was extremely easy to reach the WHOLE fanbase with glistening oil, that's why it was so quick and it did not take decades. Viral oil + viral fake news maybe got us this HelLiod.
What I find REALLY interesting is that in a place where dreams and needs become gods, with a viral oil that keeps the collective genetic/ancestral memories of past and present Phyrexia... the result is the compleation of an already existing god and not the therosian DEIFICATION OF YAWGMOTH.
But maybe it is like it is because oil does not delete the soul anymore? (If it does so in planeswalkers there is the chance it does so in every living being.) So maybe the soul is why throsian prefer to warp their traditional gods instead of twisting their faith towards phyrexian praetors or godlike beings?
Even Gods aren't safe from Compleation
They;re going all out with the compleation thing. I'm wondering how this is going to unfold either in this set or in Aftermath.

The constellation frame looks weird on the compleated side, which I think is the point. Nice to see they got Jason Engle for it though.

Oh, I forgot. The ending of sets during that time was ill-communicated.

I hate that you can't tell what cards belong to the main set anymore by the "total card count" (with an asterisk) being printed there.
I'd like if they used this additional digit/character to group the cards for more transparency rather than this, which is the opposite.
