Tired of how gray and inorganic MTG has felt this whole year
What does this even mean?
I think that I get it. We had a relatively contemporary city (more so than Ravnica) in New Capenna, a cyberpunk dystopia in Kamigawa, and a set filled with mechs in Brother’s war, peppered with things like an outer space set and warhammer 40k decks.
Other than dominaria united (and the speed bump that was baldur’s gate) this year has a bit of a different aesthetic.

I can understand that, for what it's worth it seems like things are about to get much more interesting flavorfully from here on out.

"In a world made of steel
Made of stone."
Thanks to Irene Cara for that
I love the cosmopolitan look of New Capenna, but if it helps any, the return to Eldraine may help bring it back to that "traditional" sense of fantasy. Same with Caves of Ixalan in the latter half of 2023.

In any other set Scatter Ray would be downright playable in limited, given that essence scatter is almost always a good “removal” spell and paying 4 isn’t much of a drawback for the added versatility of countering artifacts in an artifact centric set. However I think it’s going to be pretty bad in this set mainly because the abundance of power stone tokens is going to quickly turn all soft counters into dead cards.

It's one of the usual downsides of an artifact set (sans Kaladesh) that there's a preponderance of steel. Not like the next six months of New Phyrexia would be any better on brightness and organic detail.

Well, with one set half mechs and cyberpunk, another set inspired by 1920's, and two sets on Dominaria with high Thran influence, what the $% did you expect, Jenrik?
Not to mention that you probably slept through the whole color-blossoming New Capenna...

Yeah, but it'll be after a year and a half of dreary, artificial wasteland sets.
Overall the set is impressive. I expected armies of massive robots and that's what we got. The only thing that makes me sad is how nerfed powerstones are. No need for that restriction at all and it prevents their use in eternal formats.
I mentioned already in another thread but, unless I am missing something, we are still lacking the cards from 29-36 in the commander section right after the set booster exclusive cards.
What are these? Special versions from the set booster exclusives? like retro frame or the like? Does anybody know?

First off, the last uncommons of the set.
Next up are the last common Prototypes of the set.
Here are two common reprints: the ever-reprinted Evolving Wilds and Curate, now with updated surveil errata.
Speaking of deciduous mechanics, Monastery Swiftspear isn't the only prowess card in the set.
Graveyard hate also exists at common, to get around all that unearth-ing.
If you think we had a lot of Story Spotlight cards before...
And finally, everything else.
this is definitely my new favorite set
HA I CALLED IT! last member of the tron workers being mana producing this is a fun cycle I might get.

March of the Machines set art has Teferi in them, so we're suspecting that Teferi makes a heroic return to the present by then.
Teferi will probably pull a deus-ex-machina in a future set, like the All Will Be One, where he saves the day.

My guess is those are the 8 retro frame basics.
Yep,
As a big fan of tron, I'm really loving the flavour of this hehe.
