Carrion Ants costs twice as much and has base P/T 0/1.
Nantuko Shade was once a Standard powerhouse, is base P/T 2/1, costs BB, not 1B, costs B to activate, not 1, and has no exile effect.
This thing is, on the one hand, kind of crazy, and, on the other hand, probably just a bargain bin rare...
Yes, but the ants are much older, and once upon a time I remember them seeing some play in my local meta. But, I couldn't find anything else that did the Shade thing for 1. While Nantuko Shade was played in mini black aggro in it's day this could make it into something. I'd love to see Surge Engine, Evolved Sleeper and this with a whole whack of powerstones and control be a deck.
Nantuko Shade was a big deal back in the day. The BBB 3/3 version in Dominaria wasn't as impactful but I think still some some play when people tried out monoblack then, if I recall.
I'm pretty sure this is the most efficient "shade" creature we've had, and only having one black pip in its mana cost and none in its activated abilities is great. This could impact multiple formats while also being a fantastic 2-drop in limited.
The set's grave hate/unearth hoser might be the cheapest we've gotten that exile effect.

(I guess technically it's Carrion Ants but that reference seems really dated)
