Today is the start of the spoilers for The Brothers' War, and it all begins here in around 10 minutes after this thread is made. This post will be updated during and after the show to present all the cards previewed during the show.
Finally, after all this time, we have Gix; and he doesn't disappoint! I love that he can come down early and start tempting your opponents into attacking each other, because what is a little life for cards ;). His mana sink ability is just gravy after you've sat back and reaped some cards of your own. Absolutely in love with the art too, it's epic and awesome!
The other cards spoiled are pretty cool too. I like the kid versions of Urza and Mishra, and their adult pre-war versions are decent too. A little disappointed that we didn't see Ashnod's card, just her art, but hopefully it is a good design. Also glad to see Ashnod's Altar getting a blueprint reprint!
This set is looking soooo good, very excited to see the rest of the set and more wonderful artifacts! Prototype is gonna be good!
Fleshgorger: ok prototype is interesting i'm really interested to see how that mechanic works with flicker
Harvester: whoa that harvester is gonna be nice for graveyard hate in commander:
titania (pre-meld): wizards did you remember to take Fetchlands into factor with this abiltiy you gain 1 life instead of losing a life using fetchlands plus can really load up the meld
Argoth: Wow that my be decent in delve decks
Hurkyl: Man she can definitely easily reload you hand if you chain a bunch of types in spells not creature
titania (post-meld): mmmm keyword soup and classic size to lands and you get a splendid reclamation on the meld which is ridiculously good in landfall decks. and ofcourse she gets a ability to make lands into creatures
Rare urza: the fact you can make clones of non creature artifacts is pretty crazy
Teferi: *sees static ability*....why? why would you guys do probably a beyond busted static abiltiy? thats easy to ultimate on same turn in commanders like Rielle, the Everwise, The Locust God, and Niv-Mizzet, Parun
Rare mishra: YIKES! mishra is just gonna be beyond misrable for control players and also unearths artifacts.
Gix: ...the mightmare is over finally my favorite character gets a card at long last and he is just delivers he’s a combination of Edric, Spymaster of Trest and villainous wealth I just hope his price won’t be obnoxious because of that mono black deck in standard (the other formats besides commander are just shoulder shrug from bolt spells)
(for Gix i got to give a fair warning he could cause Sheoldred, the Apocalypse or himself to get banned in standard because that's just beyond psycho combo with each other (you gain 1 life instead of lose).)
(for Gix i got to give a fair warning he could cause Sheoldred, the Apocalypse or himself to get banned in standard because that's just beyond psycho combo with each other (you gain 1 life and they lose 3).)
In 1 v 1 standard you'd just gain 1 life and draw a card, they don't draw cards from attacking you, so not as bonkers of a combo in Standard, but still very good synergy
Argoth, Sanctum of Nature actually looks like a fairly good, even Modern-playable land! Shame about the sorcery-speed activation, but I want my land to churn out 2/2's for 4-5 mana, not 1/1's or 7-8 mana. Titania, Voice of Gaea looks kinda dicey as a fun-of, as she fails to protect herself or generate some kind of CA on entry (yeah, I know, high bar of entry for Modern), but at least she's cheap, dodges Bolt, and gains life somewhat easily.
Hurkyl, Master Wizard looks like she can dole out the CA in quite a lot of Modern decks, including ones with removal magnets. I'll need to test her a bunch!
Good to see a kind of "man-land" back in Standard. Wonder if there will a cycle of these or not.
Teferi even at 5 cmc seems a bit broken. Nothing like adding loyalty counters for something blue does easily already, draw cards. Not really looking forward to this in Standard.

Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
So Phyrexian Fleshgorger can be either a powerful 3-drop to pressure the opponents really fast in Standard Monoblack decks, or a T3 Tron-powered beatstick, I love it.
That Teferi looks powerful at first glance, but I'm more inclined to believe that the high MV and the fact that the tokens it makes don't have evasion will keep him in check, still it seems risky for Commander, but I don't really know the format so I don't know how viable Monoblue decks are.
It's interesting to me that "Ward - Sacrifice a permanent" wasn't an emblem or attached to something melded. And that there's another new Ward cost in Brothers' War also not attached to an emblem or melded permanent!

prototype mechanic might need to be kept an eye on in formats/decks that use flicker cards because if my rules knowledge is correct the new object rule with flicker will turn the wurm into the 7/5 mode if you did the prototype cost earlier

I think it works that way at least I hope it does. If it does I could see the mechanic being fun across formats. That ward ability may make people think twice about using their targeted removal on it.

Embrace the dark you call a home,
Gaze upon an empty, white throne
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise
Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight
Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts all alone
Anyone notice that Argoth isn't legendary? I guess they did that on purpose.
If the premise of the set is going back in time, then this is probably before the significant event occurs. For example, maybe the Tolarian Academy was a just another school until certain events occurred.

Sick! I have those extended border Mazemind Tomes, but that blueprint version looks sick. It's such a good card. Don't get why it doesn't see more play.

Rare mishra seems crazily good. I would be shocked if this isn't in the top tier price wise for rares of the set
Gix is full in flavor and very good
Hurkyl seems good as well
And teferi seems unique... Will probably end up being broken
Hurkyl, Master Wizard looks like she can dole out the CA in quite a lot of Modern decks, including ones with removal magnets. I'll need to test her a bunch!
Teferi, Temporal Pilgrim can gain loyalty at a pretty fast rate, draws cards, and protects himself...shame he can't boot troublesome permanents immediately like Teferi, Hero of Dominaria can.

It's pretty wild with Ephemerate.

I feel underwhelmed by the previews so far. Would be nice to have an Urza and Mishra in Artifact cube of course.
The prototype wurm at 3cc is really good especially for draft formats where it fits in 2 places at the curve. Cant want for more prototypes.
With that said
prototype mechanic might need to be kept an eye on in formats/decks that use flicker cards because if my rules knowledge is correct the new object rule with flicker will turn the wurm into the 7/5 mode if you did the prototype cost earlier
It's not a Rapid Prototyper but a rapid Upgrader.

in the retro frame sheet we are getting
HR Analyst. Gamer. Activist | Fearless, and forthright | Aggro-control is a mindset.
Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.

Teferi, Temporal Pilgrim and the last of the painlands also have borderless treatments.
How can Gix be a mere 3/3 when Xantcha is a 5/5?
And when Mishra is a 4/4 and a 3/5?
And the other Yawgmoth Demons are 6/6?
C'mon, WotC.
Still, those abilities are really sick. And that art is glorious in the black card frame.
there’s another mistake with the stats look at cruelty of Gix
he's ridiculously tall since a average human is the height of his legs
