The last rare of the set is a callback to the next set in Standard, The Brothers' War. It's B's greatest hits in one card, and feels like a complete upgrade over The Eldest Reborn.
so Ridiculously good saga to me (i wonder if they didn't add “it’s a phyrexian in addition to its types” because there’s not enough room I assuming it’s Gix compleating someone is the last chapter.)
and who’s ready to finally get a Gix card after all these years in brothers war and what will his card do?
(Oh by the way this saga story happened after “brothers war” this is when he was inventing “sleeper agent” phyrexians)
A lot of love for this card, but I'll point out that it doesn't affect the board until the third chapter. Read ahead obviously helps if you need the reanimation fast, but 5 mana zombify isn't anything special. This can still be a 3-for-1 though and I like that read ahead gives a lot of extra functionality. I imagine you may end up skipping at least the first chapter a lot since the discard is pretty limited.
Weird card. 5MV that's not impacting the board at Chapter 1/2 AND demanding a 3 life payment makes me want to say "not good against creature decks, probably very good against Control" but discarding only creatures and 'walkers goes against that idea. Read Ahead does makes it more flexible but 5MV reanimation is already not very good on a vacuum so even the most common ability here may not be useful, and the 2nd chapter is at its best when you can use it after untapping so you probably don't want to read ahead into it either. Feels like a combination of good effects that are priced aggressively for being stapled into a single card but together they are somehow less than the sum of its parts.
" and feels like a complete upgrade over The Eldest Reborn."
....seriously?
1) Eldest is more splashable
2) Eldest have actually a straight removal option for effective threats on field
3) Eldest hits every opponent in multiplayer in both first and second chapter
4) Eldest resurrect also planeswalkers from any graveyard
I mean, this is not a bad card at all. And the tutor part is definitely the most interesting and powerful ability to use. But no, it's not strictly better than Eldest at all, just for different uses.
100% agree. I was going to post something like this if no one else had. I plan to run this in a deck or two, but calling this an upgrade to The Eldest Reborn is just wrong.
Just realized that you can tutor for Power Conduit with this and spam Grim Tutors for the rest of the game. (Remember, Power Conduit can target itself.)

Why wouldn’t the card tutored for in the second chapter affect the board?

That card you search for might but we don't say Divination affects thr board if you draw into a Murder. Divination will still be tempo loss.

Certainly worthy of the character. It definitely raises the anticipation of seeing him in the next set.

Still probably a powerhouse in Commander tho.
