Basically for orginal “zendikar” (not the other two sets) and for only the first print run
in a slot they slipped a card that card could be a reserve list/expensive card (17 weren't reserved) and these cards were repacked from sets they were printed from not sure on pull rate
so The rumor is they may actually be possible doing it again for a future set the predicted set is…
Domnaria United (I think “brothers war” would be a better choice)
if this is true this could end up being the most bought set(s) in the history of every magic set in existence
But like.... It wasn't relevant in Zendikar. Just a vague myth people talked about. Pretty much a thing that doesn't matter at all. Oh, so you have almost literally a one in a million chance of getting a Mox? You're gonna buy packs for that reason? If you're that bamboozled by the reality of statistics, you should be playing the lottery.
They might as well do this in every set. Wouldn't make any difference except for the five people that get one.
Zendikar did not sell well because of priceless treasures. It sold well because it was one of the best sets ever. It had fetchlands, good mechanics, a world people liked, and an awesome limited environment stacked with sweet commons and uncommons. Zendikar was the bomb. Priceless treasures were just a whispered rumor.
Seems like a strange thing to bring back when The List is there. If this does happen it's just another cash grab as WotC knows whales will open thousands of packs for a Mox.

Yeah, that almost sounds like their recent business strategy.
It was not a myth. It really happened. But, you had an equal chance of pulling a Hecatomb or whatever vs a dual land.
But by really happened, do you mean odds were beyond statistical impossibility? Lots of people opened masterpieces. I opened two of them. But I've never heard of anyone actually opening a priceless treasure. Does anybody here know of anybody who actually opened one? If the odds are 1000-1, great. If it's 10,000-1, that's not worth much. If it's 1,000,000-1, who even cares?
Priceless treasures were definitely real. They weren’t especially printed for it. They were existing cards that Wizards gathered and dropped into the packs. I know someone who opened a very played black Mox. I don’t know what the odds were but they were very small and it was only in the first print run which was a lot smaller than today’s first print runs.
IF, and that is a very big if, this happens again the only way there would be any Reserved List cards is if they do it the exact same way. Drop existing old cards into the packs. That would be the only way to circumvent the Reserved List policy. They will not print any new RL cards.
My LGS has someone open a revised dual land in their Zendikar prerelease, which was pretty cool but definitely not something most stores would experience. I think it's a very fun idea, but it's a lot easier to bring back masterpieces which are nice $50-200 pulls and much easier to pull off on both the production side and the consumer side.

I feel having The List, variant versions (borderless, etched, gilded, special borderless art), and Masterpieces seem a bit too much when it comes to boosters. How many additional lotteries does this game need?

I watched a guy open a Tolarian Academy in a Zendikar pack. I know at one point we had approximate odds of opening a priceless treasure, and it wasn't very good at all, but I can't find those odds now.
That's not technically true, being a copy of timeshifted cards they were in Time Spiral & Remastered and Mystery Boosters.
Would it be cool to open some blinged out $300 card? Sure, but does the game need even more lottery in it? Honestly, I feel like the game should have less of them now as the constant variants are boring now and don't add much of anything besides collector fodder.

Estimates vary. Some said the pull rate was 1 in 20 boxes, others said they were around 1 in 50-100 boxes.
I've seen plenty of them opened. I saw a Library of Alexandria and a Tropical Island opened on camera. At the prerelease, someone opened a Phyrexian Dreadnought. At a Sealed event the following month, I saw someone open a Tundra.
Heck, my friend opened two boxes and I literally watched as he opened a Serendib Djinn. He still has it in one of his binders.
Granted, print runs are a lot larger now than they were in 2009, and Reserved List cards are way more expensive than they were when Zendikar was being printed. That would definitely result in a lower pull rate than the original priceless treasures, but they'll likely still be obtainable enough that people will think they have a shot at pulling one.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

if I were to guess 4 times less likely to pull a masterpiece card or two (BFZ block/kaladesh/amonkhet)
I vividly rememeber the Dude literally sitting next to me in the original Zendikar draft got a mox sapphire. I was super disappointed, it was almost me. But the guy was also an army medic so I figured if anyone deserved it, it's that guy.

Well not openly, we wouldn't really know though unless it leaked.
So... Are we actually buying this story that they FOUND entire cases of Legends?
On one hand, Wizards incompetence means they could have just forgotten something from over two decades ago. On the other hand, Wizards greed could mean this is just stock they've been sitting on for this exact moment.. It could go either way.

Who knows anymore.
Heh, I just looked up Hecatomb yesterday, card was really nerfed by very necessary errata (well, the original Ice Age one).
