Yea Winota should have been banned eons ago that’s another member of the cards that broke every format cartergroy from the most overpowered standard ever (war of the spark/m21/eldraine/theros beyond death/ikoria/M22)

OG Mirrodin standard would like a chat with you ;-)
That's an interesting conversation to have, which of those eras were worse. While Mirrodin was most definitely bad it only last those three sets while the era described up above went on for far longer with many more issues than a single mechanic.
I'd have to give it to the one above based solely on the length, but that's me.

Difference is at least with this last round of Magic-ending Standards, there was a semblance of variety. Lots of decks can play whatever broken crap they want, kinda like the Urza's days but much slower. Mirrodin was Affinity or bust.

I've heard people say similar things about Rebels (Rebels or Not Rebels), but that probably pales in comparison to what we've experienced lately.

The metagame during urza's saga release was all combo in every format. I don't think WOTC will ever screw up that badly again with 10 cards being banned/restricted between tempest and urza's saga.

If memory serves, the dominant Rebels deck was more an issue in Masques Block Constructed than it was in Standard. Rebels was a GREAT white weenie deck, but it had to share its time in standard with both Urza block on the front end and Invasion block on the back end. In block Constructed though, only Masques, Nemesis, and Prophecy? You played Rebels or you didn't bother showing up.

The problem was the "legend rule", back then there could only be on unique legendary on the battlefield at a time. The last unique legendary played was destroyed, so it was a race to get Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero in play. Add her ability to put rebels from graveyard into library and you can lock your opponent out of playing theirs. rishadan port also was stifling opponent's lands. You could also use a rebel to get Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero into play in response to an opponent's, so that made it even worse.

Yeah that's right I forgot about that. Reminds me of the situation during Odyssey/Onslaught where whoever got their Akroma out first won usually won.

Good riddance to Winota. I may consider getting back into Pioneer but it still has issues.
One is Collected Company is just as bad as Winota, if not worse. And Greasefang is pretty close too.

It's a combo with Parhelion II. Get it in the graveyard and you can swing for 13 on turn 3 with two angels left to finish the job next turn.
