The Card Image Gallery is now complete, giving us the last cards of the set... in other languages. English hasn't updated yet, so these cards had to be gotten the long way. (Yay it's fixed now!) Leading the charge is Giada, one of the best things to happen to Angel tribal.
Note that there is card duplication of both the art deco showcase frames and Golden Age showcase frames in the Variants Gallery, due to the etched foil and gilded treatments getting their own collector numbers.
With Giada is the Green member of the color hoser cycle (a bite spell that doesn't ask you for a target and just chooses your biggest creature), the last two members of the insta-fetch cycle, and the extended-art version of Meeting of the Five.
OMG LOVE GIADA :D. Never though we would get an Angel tribal card. Sadly it isn't compatible as commander with the tribal goodies we got in Kaldheim (at least not all of it). But 2 Mana for 2/2 flying vigilance, Angels enter the battlefield with additional +1/+1 counter and the mana ramp... Yes please. Best Angel tribal card ever.
Love the artwork for Giada. And there's our artifact angel warrior.
BUT DANG ANGELS WILL BE A THING FOR A FEW MONTHS UNTIL ROTATION.
FEw solid reprints...Overall I like the set. I think it's premature to judge it until we actually play with the cards in their various format applications. I'll be buying it mainly for the artwork but that's how I do me...
EDIT: I wonder if/how Giada will play into the storyline as a whole. Will it be the source of power that the Phyrexians are aiming to exploit? That sounds so nasty but it's a possibility.
So, Giada was an angel all along, and Elspeth saw the same glow around herself that she saw around Giada. Does this mean that Elspeth Tirel is and always has been an angel herself?
Yeeesh Giada might be one of the best Angel tribal legends yet makes angels inflate like a balloon of P/T and is even a mana gal so many players are gonna be scared of a teenager
but will it be enough to satisfy people since people request to this day for 5-color legend due angels being in all colors (reminder vast majority of angels are mono white)
I'll be buying it mainly for the artwork but that's how I do me...

That says they're doing something right. Nobody was buying for the artwork in Shards of Alara, or M14, or Battle For Zendikar. All in all, the set aesthetically reminds me most of Ixalan in that it has a very singular feel unto itself. It may not be everyone's cup of tea (there's a lot of modern stuff and goofy animal-people) but it does what it does, and it's the only thing that does.
I will certainly say that I complained for years about MTG artwork being an endless, samey rehash of fantasy realism. This is absolutely no longer the case. I wish they didn't have all the different frames though.

One odd thing about this world: it's all about organized crime, but there doesn't seem to be any kind of law. So it's not really crime at all. The five families are.... basically the government.
Welp Giada being an angel explains her being the Font (source of Halo).
I still say she will have something to do with the Phyrexian arc in some way or another. I really wanna see a showdown of Urabrask against Elesh and the other living praetors.

Now: so, Grizzly Bears with how many upsides? Three? Four?
Legendary counts for a lot. Isamuru Hound of Konda has existed in white for a long time now so legendary grizzly bears should have some significant upside.
Now: so, Grizzly Bears with how many upsides? Three? Four?
Well, at "common" thats still kinda true, but we already got super powered White Knight kind of cards at uncommon, and especially the 1 and 2 drops got power creeped a lot, even the commons at basically 2/2 for 2 mana with upside by now, rares need to get even more.
To this point Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer is the most disgusting power creep atrocity, and i dont see them stopping.
----
Giada has a lot of abilities, but overall, its still a pretty bad card on its own for a rare at least.
The bigger angels are usually game ending threats, while she is very heavy into angel-tribal, and ironically enough, angels are overall "tiny" in this set, compared to the usual power-level a angel should have.
But that "should have" did go out the window a long time ago, when Dragons stopped being 5/5 monsters, Vampires stopped being powerful creatures and Angels became "common".
Some creature types just lost all the appeal of being powerful and are now just ordinary random creature types.
I like my Angels rare, big and powerful, anything small and pitiful is not a proper Angel, but just a human with chicken wings.
Sorry for double post I just want to let the train comment sit on its own.
I gotta say this is gonna be a real fiery limited season, these commons are across the board real impressive. Treasure tokens coming out of everything, colorless combat tricks in equipment form, cool multifaceted enablers like exhibition magician. I'm sure there's gonna be some optimized picks but as it is almost every theme feels pretty viable.
One odd thing about this world: it's all about organized crime, but there doesn't seem to be any kind of law. So it's not really crime at all. The five families are.... basically the government.
They established there is an elected government with judges and law enforcement but all of them are in the back pockets of the 5 families in some way or another. The families let the government exists to handle the day to day stuff (trash removed, keeping power on, making sure people have food) and law enforcement is tolerated to as a neutral party to arrest and rid get of rivals between the families and to give the people some sense of order and fairness to the common person. People play along since thats the way its always been done and as they have nowhere else to go since outside of the city is un-liveable mostly.

Heh. Just a few hours ago, I was wondering whether we'd get Giada or not. When I was told the name "Giada, Font of Hope" had been mentioned, I had weird visions of an old-style drink fountain dispensing halo soft drinks. Seems like I was not so far off.
Admittedly, at first glance, I was disappointed. That first glance just giving me the mana cost and P/T. What a pitiful little excuse for an angel.
Then I read the rest of the card and had to go look for my jaw that was somewhere under the table. Sure, she's not a game-ender by herself, but that is Platinum/Iridium level value for just 2 mana. A bear with flying and vigilance without downsides itself is, in my opinion, already rare-worthy, and this is in the category "pushed mythic". Sure, she's a quite specific build-around card and can't just be dropped in anything that runs white and be stellar... But still. Agog.
Aside from the bad vehicle, these green commons are all super pushed. Why is green getting so much love?
i think it has to do with edh.
green historically got strong cards, green is a powerful popular color in edh because of it, how do you keep selling packs? keep pushing it because its popular and has strong cards. no one plays white or red, so why push those they don't sell packs.
they've gotten way better about this in the past year or so, but it still rings pretty true. the game isn't really about balance any more and it really comes down to what sells the most.

So interesting how that will turn out.
Fight-Spells with Shield counters might also proof to be useful.

I there ae many of this kind of ability card in the previous set,
Another waste opportunity to make it something similar to the likes of Relentless Rats, Rat Colony, Persistent Petitioners and Shadowborn Apostle
A deck can have any number of cards named ~ Card Name.
White and Green should had some kind of card related to this ability. Like a Swarm, Protesting Mob, or Horde of Zombies
i think it has to do with edh.
