Drain 3 life is pretty much only to win the game if you have to.
Say you have 3 of them in hand, then you can just drain 9 life, good option to have, if its needed, otherwise you will always use any of the other options, either to find some gas or kill something relevant.
Picking the best card of 5 and milling the rest might be especially helpful if there is some mechanic that benefits from the graveyard, flashback certainly would.

agree with you... people understimate the drain mode is very powerful and also sometimes surprising effect

split cards maybe (like showing WG on one half and RG
