Good morning, New York Capenna! The prebeat is meant for LGSes and other distributors to see how much product they are interested in ordering for the next set. For the rest of us, this means very early spoilers. Presenting... ally-color triomes. (Please clap even if you knew this was coming, the crime families are threatening to pull all funding and my limbs if no one claps.)
We also have the full-art basics of the set. Like with Neon Dynasty, there will be regular-art versions of these basics.
What, you wanted more new cards? Fine, here's one.
Also revealed are the Magic-flavored versions of the Stranger Things Secret Lair. They're all set on Innistrad for some reason.
The watermark for the Maestros look an awful lot like Squall’s sword-gun weapon thing.
So the Alaborn have some interplanar firearm competition
But holy Gotham City lookalike Batman. It’s the 80s’ Batman cartoon aesthetic all over again.
‘buster
Not to be pedantic but Batman the animated series that you are referring to is from the 90s lol.

Embrace the dark you call a home,
Gaze upon an empty, white throne
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise
Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight
Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts all alone
Not gonna lie, I kinda wish they had saved the triomes for a return to Alara and named them Bant Triome, Esper Triome, etc just to keep the names consistent. I think it would have been perfect, especially since the original Alara block featured cycling as well.
I suppose they can give us a Secret Lair or something with Alara-themed renamed versions of these triomes (like the Godzilla or Dracula cards), but "Ziatora's Proving Ground" sound more like a rename than something more simple like "Jund Triome."
Also, the flavor of these lands feels off. You mean to tell me that a giant tower is somehow a Plains, an Island, and a Swamp? Was it built on a site where three of those leylines intersected, and retained their mana-producing properties?
(Yeah yeah, I know that that argument can be applied to shocklands too)
I think it would be much cleaner flavor-wise if these cards were just triomes, and saved for a set where triomes as a natural setting would make sense.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Finally, with Stranger Things being changed to actual cards I can play Arvinox. Little surprised they kept Friends Forever and didn't just change it to partner.
There being full art lands doesn't really grab me anymore, yes some of them look good, but I no longer feel they are special.

The ikoria triomes don’t have the original names (femur, sultai, etc) so why does it matter if these do? I think this set is a slam dunk so far from these arts and the theme. If they aren’t going to keep expanding on the original story arch of urza, the wheatherlight, Karn, etc. then give me something zany or fresh... I’ll take this over more of the gate watch justice league or a bastardized kamigawa plot (original kamigawa was straight cash, so of course they went in a totally different direction)

This is exactly what I was thinking. This is, what, the fourth set in a row with full-art basics?
I still remember the endless clamor from the community years ago, that we should have full-art basic lands in every set and they'll still keep their charm...
The ikoria triomes don’t have the original names (femur, sultai, etc) so why does it matter if these do?
Because the Ikoria triomes set the precedent for these lands, and the Tarkir clans didn't? I didn't think that needed to be explained.
I'm not saying that they NEED to follow the same naming convention. I just think it was a missed opportunity, and that "triome" is an elegant name to retain for the allied cycle.

Kinda like Ravnica, just with more modern technology (which kinda feels less "fantasy" in what Magic usually represents, at least if you dont get the odd-sci-fi magic infused theme of a war-machine, here its not an exception, the entire world has basic access to technology).
Overall, 3-color shard themes provided me with cards to love every time it was done, especially if they opt to finish cycles like the Tri-Lands, Ascendancy Enchantments and we will get some "leader" legends (just like in Shards of Alara).
Maybe we also get a "command" cycle for each faction again.
Lands and themes remind me of the super old movie Metropolis and old-school Batman Gotham city.

not Only the triomes and ascendacy's are getting complete and cycling a mechanic again.
we’re getting the story before the cards again just like for neon dynasty.
Oh and I’m thrilled the mtg variants didn't get the Godzilla thing treatment
Blake literally read the question “is there a phyrexian here”
there’s was literally no comment at all. And instantly went to the next question
(All the other stuff can't be revealed yet got “stay tuned”
But it’s probably nothing

they goofed commander deck names revealed
Obscura Operation,
Maestros Massacre,
Riveteers Rampage,
Cabaretti Cacophony,
Bedecked Brokers,
Sure, why not? Worked well enough for Kamigawa.
Agree honestly.
Eh, those names don't tell us much of anything that the faction names revealed didn't already.

Are we sure it's a vampire? Couldn't it be an Azra? I thought they were on this plane.

In the land of showcases for every set it certainly feels like it.
When everything's special, nothing's special.

Friends Forever is to Partner as Horsemanship is to Flying. The name being different makes the mechanic different

Nice Innistrad themed legends. I miss when we had Commander decks introducing more characters from past planes, as a peek while we await a return.
