Now I want to make some weird Rakdos saga mid-range deck. Play Tribute to Horobi turn 2. Play Hidetsugu Consumes All turn 3, rat tokens in the trash, but oh well. Pump spell + Lizard Blades and it's game over. Now that's a fun Standard Christmasland.
mirror breaker saga: I love love this one you get a goblin that makes treasure token, card draw then, a weaker Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker what’s not to like
Tribute to horobi. THERE IT IS! now we know how the rat tokens come into play so whatever you do don't play to many pack rats when you see this pop out.
Hidetsugu saga: ooooh booooy this is gonna make hammer time/low cmc decks cry.
and I can wager people are gonna get furious that the back side is not a legendary creature since that’s the 10 damage and your dead card. (Remember give it a +7/+7 buff then just Chandra's Ignition and that’s game)
These flip Sagas I've been mostly unimpressed by, really none of them have been spectacular based on the creature side. Kiki's is probably the best creature of them, though I am surprised it doesn't have haste.

Oh wow I didn't even notice that. So I assumed that it would just transform without leaving the field, but no it exiles itself and then returns so yeah if you play this on turn 3 you might be able to make a copy on turn 6. What a worthless card.
I don't know, they seem pretty fun in my constellation decks, as they count twice; and since they are creatures on the backside, you can use cards like Conjurer's Closet to keep resetting them.
Added a mana to Kiki-Jiki to prevent shenanigans, I see.
They pretty much had to, since the creature side of the saga isn’t legendary which means it can copy itself and if it didn’t have 1 as a part of its activation cost it would be able to give a player infinite tapped tokens all by itself (which opens up to any number of win conditions through impact tremors-like effects or free sac outlets)

Nah, it says "another." Still, there are a ton of infinite combos with Kiki-Jiki, totally reasonable to not want to do the exact effect.
Yeah, Gameplay-weise I've been unimpressed with the sagas as well. Maro said that the choice to not give the creature backside haste by default was deliberate, but that just limits their power level way too much.
The regular basics are also a bit disappointing (and with that I mean they are "just ok," but I was looking forward to them since I'm not a fan of the templating on the full arts). Not even close to the original Kamigawa basics. I was hoping for a cool look at Otawara for the blue "civilization" basic, but instead we got some weird Zendikar geometry instead...
cant wait to see the looks on people’s faces when they thought these were severely underpowered and they were better than they looked
as a matter of fact Exibit A is the hidetsugu saga that just a massacre for a bunch of cards in modern
The front sides for many alright, but it's really the creatures and the overall card that seem underwhelming. Yes, Hidetsugu's Saga effects are quite decent/good, but waiting until turn 6 to swing with a 3/3 is not what I'd call amazing.
Maybe if you could cast the backside without waiting the creatures would be better.
Hidetsugu Consumes All is why we can't have nice things.
Zero balance here. There should be at least ONE singular 1 cmc permanent with indestructible in this set. Pioneer is loaded with answers and the creature threats get worse and worse with the ridiculous amount of removal.

Today Mark talks about how the mechanics of Neon Dynasty got into the set.
Meanwhile, found in the Card Image Gallery are two more Sagas (one rare, one mythic) and the regular basic lands of the set.

some of the uncommon ones seem fine in limited.

Hidestugu Consumes All already reminds me of the rise in Crime // Punishment numbers in Modern sideboards.

It also doesn't have haste. Since the saga is exiled and comes back transformed, it technically has summoning sickness when it returns.
