Often when referring female rulers (I believe for east asian empires mostly) you use Emperor when referring to the position to to show that the person is the ruler and not the consort. For example Wu Zetian is called the first female Emperor of China to note she was the actual person on the throne (though calling her Empress Zetian isn't incorrect).

The only counterpoint I have is it would seem to end the mystery of the wanderer in kind of a weird way. I'm making an assumption that if she is the emperor she'd have to be native to the plane and her identity known to the people and then it would be known to us as well. I initially thought it could be Oko masquerading as the emperor, but I think it doesn't work out color balance wise as Kaito is most likely Dimir, Tamiyo is some combo of mono blue, Simic or Bant and we now have the wanderer who is most likely mono white. Have we had confirmation that Tamiyo is in the set? It'd be kinda shady if they left her out.

Embrace the dark you call a home,
Gaze upon an empty, white throne
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise
Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight
Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts all alone
I can imagine the Wanderer with an experimental drive from Kamigawa up her back, making her planeswalking involuntary (or possibly being the source of her planeswalking ability Brandon Sanderson-style?).

To clarify I'm not married to the idea of Emperor Wanderer but they could have her being a non-native that for XYZ reasons ended up on the throne or she's just her since she's the "samurai walker". That said she was in War of the Spark to be a preview of a future storyline so they might already have her name and origin figured out.
We don't have Tamiyo confirmed in the set, most people are guessing her since she a native as well as fairly popular.

Man... after seeing the motorcycle there, I am less and less interested in this set by the minute. I loved the original Kamigawa setting and lore, seeing it turned into this just feels wrong. It honestly feels like someone at Hasbro saw the hype for CyberPunk 2077 and passed an order down to cash in on it, nothing outside of the Anthropomorphic rat feels remotely like Magic or Kamigawa.
ewww... that motor bike ... now that i see it, i think thats not something the magic world needed
i was up for new changes and kaladesh managed to give us a more "modern" magic world... but this. not a fan
i mean kamigawa was already a pretty unique plane... so why, just why ?
oh and btw... did u see the arm of the rat ?
tezzeret seems likely to me with this look. its kinda esperish.
Kaladesh is probably my favourite plane in terms of aesthetics, but that was really pushing the limits of high tech in Magic. This is just too over the top for me.
I'm more into sci fi stuff than fantasy stuff in general, but I would a million times rather have ancient Japanese settings than this. And I'm sure somebody is going to come and tell me "wELL AcHtuually JaPAN HaS a hUGe mOTorCYclE sUB CulTUrE!!!" or something similar. I'd still prefer ancient Japanese stuff, particularly in a Magic setting.
that is some of the fugliest art I have seen. I just don't get Wizards
'Oh, you liked Kamigawa block, set in feudal Japan, with all of the ancient feeling and traditional stuff? Did you like the old school samurai and a world where science had no power because of nature spirits? Well you are going to LOVE this new Kamigawa, looking more stylized and over the top advanced than when Tokyo laid it on really thick for the Olympics!'

Thats the point, Kamigawa flavor wasn't well liked by most players. For years on Maro's tumblr there was a debate about if they should re-flavor Kamigawa or have a brand new Japanese inspired world and now we are seeing the results.
EDIT: Anyways I'm gonna wait and see how it looks when we see the full set, speaking of which happy anniversary to last year when people where having melt downs thinking snow wasn't in Kaldheim due to see barley any of set.

I still like the idea of a plane actually progressing at a reasonable pace. It's been 1200 years. Actual Japan had a space program less than 1200 years after its feudal period.

The Nezumi's artifical arm does seem kinda Esperish to me, too - it seems plausible for a rigging-together of Esper style with whatever spare parts they could get - although Toski, Bearer of Secrets has shown us that you can have artificial arms without Esper or Tezzeret (or, heck, Phyrexia) involved at all.
In the meantime, I'm fairly certain the exact illustration style of that booster box is not representative of standard Neon Kamigawa Dynasty card art as a whole (alt-frame series art, though? Maybe). I'm somewhat certain we'll react more positively to a more standard, CGI-style version of the nezumi-on-a-motorcycle art (e.g. Kieryluk).
Remember when Urza built a robot, a space ship and used mechas to fight the borg? Totally fantasy with no Sci-fi elements.
I kinda see it as how Kaladesh has giant airships and mechs, but I still wouldn't consider Kaladesh sci fi or futuristic at all from the overall art direction. It's the same with the old urza stuff. They're both rooted in that sort of "fantasy world" and not "sci fi future world". Like steam punk stuff. I wouldn't call steam punk sci fi at all.
But you're right with us not having seen anything from the set yet other than a few pieces of artwork, so people should hold their horses a little. It's just what we have seen so far looks like a very huge step away from what we'd come to expect from a game set in fantasy worlds.

Maybe I'm off base here, but I always was under the impression that people loved Kamigawa's flavor, but it suffered because the actual set itself was a letdown, being mostly weak and sandwiched between two massively powerful/popular blocks in Mirrodin and Ravnica. Like, the lore was and setting was fantastic, but the actual cards and mechanics were not well-liked at all.
Finally some artwork to rival Faithless Looting at the bottom of the dumpster.
Looks like a 5th graders sketch on their school notebook.
They are making it very easy for me to skip this set. I wasn't expecting much anyway.

Most of the reaction to the flavor at the time was general confusion and fear that Magic's creative was dead. Even the Japanese playerbase was confused. It doesn't really help that the Spirits looked like they were copy-pasted off a 14th century yokai compendium and covered in eyes to look different.
Seeing how they've been breaking self-imposed rules left and right in the last few years, they might as well introduce guns to Magic now. You're telling me the technology is advanced enough for Akira-style motorcycles, but a simple mechanism that shoots pieces of metal at people is too much? At some point it does become ridiculous to see everyone using sticks and swords.
I like Akira/GitS/Blade Runner and I like Kamigawa, but I'm very skeptical if I'm going to like WotCs amalgamation of the two. Still very little to go off of though...
