I like this blood moon because of how prominently it sticks out on the table. It is one of those cards that changes the whole scope of play and it should stick out like a sore thumb for everyone around.
Unless everyone is playing "99 Secret Lairs Pickup". My main problem with the plethora of special frames and borderless/full art cards etc. we are getting is the noise gradually eroding the signifcant visual cues.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
I dunno if I would describe it as product fatigue exactly, but it makes me a bit sad that this is just at this point wotc stepping into the fun indie card mod scene and sucking up the money and attention just cuz it can. I was kind of into it when it first started and it was still them commissioning regular artists and having some fun with it (loved that serum visions) but now it seems like the point of these is more just to make weird collabs and have one-offs to push paper. A lot of me wishes that mtg overall kinda stayed in a middling semi-profitable limbo, now that it's hasbro's literal best-selling property it feels like there's a lot more pressure on the game to keep hasbro afloat instead of doing its own thing or standing aside and letting cottage markets for custom cards live on their own.
Just something I've been thinking about here on the third visit to the plane that made mtg a breakout hit.
I swear I'm not just mad that I can't get a whole deck of full-text lands
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Has there been any confirmation that this is really a WotC product that will be sold?
I mean, seems to me like MSCHF could just make up a prop version of this, limited to one or a few. Sounds to me like what some anarcho art collective might want to do.
I don't golf but alienating golfers (that play MTG) seems like a dumb idea. So much for inclusiveness.

Got 5 copies, 4 for myself and 1 for a bud.
Didn't even know about the Plains (hella cool, I laughed A LOT) but the Grim and Blood Moon alone did it for me. The Grim's art can be found on MSCHF's website, just scroll through their meme list. The Blood Moon art is really different, love it.
This will be the second Secret Lair I get after Stranger Things; it will likely be worth less on an individual card basis, but still sweet.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
Is it any surprise that Magic: The Gathering isn't trending as much on ICv2's Hot Properties list with Pokémon leading in terms of sales? Yu-Gi-Oh! is also trending more than Magic: The Gathering but not by a whole lot I'm afraid. As far as Paper Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games go nowadays, Pokémon TCG, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Flesh and Blood TCG are ALL outperforming Magic: The Gathering by a WIDE margin. MetaZoo is also doing well despite being a blatant rip-off of the Base Set / Jungle / Fossil era of when Wizards of the Coast once owned the rights to the Pokémon TCG. Bottom line is that based on what I'm seeing on ICv2 it's a clear indication that Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro's business practices as of late have actually been hurting Magic: The Gathering long term. The problem is that Magic: The Gathering is successful enough as a card game to the point where Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro feels comfortable diluting the value of cards to make them more affordable for players when it's actually alienating them instead.
They even squandered their chance of doing an animated series for Magic: The Gathering to sell product to the point where Legend Story Studios is taking initiative on the pitch meeting BEFORE Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro for Flesh and Blood TCG. Remember Hasbro only bought out Wizards of the Coast years ago because the Toy Industry was on the brink of collapse due to the Internet where as now most employees who work on Magic: The Gathering at Wizards of the Coast have WAY less time to design unique and creative cards BECAUSE of the need to push more product to increase Hasbro's profit margins. Wizards of the Coast is probably already aware of this which is why they assigned Melissa DeTora as head of the Casual Play Design Team for designing unique and creative cards for Magic: The Gathering going forward. With Competitive Play Design having to be watered down to avoid the threat of another emergency ban in Standard I guess that's a welcome sign If any unless they push for the "This ability triggers only once each turn" clause more.

Metazoo is only doing well mainly because tons of sharks are buying and holding sealed product to invest in. The fourth wall effects make the game almost completely unsustainable in the long term, at least from a sanctioned/competitive perspective. (Source: My friend works at Game Kastle, where they're being forced to push tons of local Metazoo tournaments because the CEO of Game Kastle is also the COO of Metazoo)
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Pokemon's leading because it released the much-awaited Gen 4 remakes last Friday. Flesh and Blood is still within the 5-year range, and its First Edition cards are causing Secret Lair-esque price spikes, so it's not a big deal yet.

There's so much wrong with this. Pokemon has been consistently out of stock at most stores since vivid voltage which was about a year ago release. Hype has been a thing since the whole Lohan Paul thing. That on top of 25 anniversary hype is definitely driving those sales. Not saying that it'll be sustained but let's not pretend that Pokemon has all of a sudden been outselling Magic.
FWIW, Crimson Vow Collector and Set Boosters are currently #5 and #7 on best sellers, respectively. Also, it's not terribly surprising as people are JUST NOW starting to go back to large Standard events. We'll likely never see the same numbers we once did for Standard expansions because Arena cuts into that market. Also, nothing can be #1 forever. Does it matter if Pokemon is the bigger game, really?
Other than things attributable to pandemic and Arena, do we have any solid info showing MtG sales declining in general? My understanding is the property is as valuable as it's ever been, so it's hard to say it's in jeopardy.

I mean I have to assume it's this weird catastrophizing I keep seeing where folks decide to take pandemic trends and project them out in perpetuity.
Is it possible that the planes is part of a cycle? It appears it's the bonus card for sure, because it's not in the main advertising, but is it the only option or could we get a whole cycle of weird, peel off basics?

They may even grab my cash on this one, maybe.

that golf plains
its not a plains....it's disguised as a battlefield forge
There is a line of text in the higher portion of the art, saying:
Golf sucks now and has always sucked.
Not sure if this is real, seems fake as I don't see WotC putting something like that on a card (even a Secret Lair)...
Oh I actually love this. Burn the Golf fields

I think a lot of golfers would actually love this.
No idea if it will be a one day sale or longer. It's completely independent of the Secretversary Superdrop 2021.
Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering when this one would drop.
