The new cards seem to have a “partner” variant (Friends Forever) that only lets you play cards from a very small subset of cards together (a midpoint between partners and partners with, as it were). While this eases my worries regarding the potential abuse from EVEN MORE PARTNERS, I do worry that we may end up with a half dozen siloed partner variants down the road.
As a reminder, all of these mechanically unique cards will be printed with a magic variant on The List within 1 year with higher pull rarity than other cards of the same rarity.

My biggest source of relief from Eleven is the eleven cards requirement. By the time you have that many cards in hand, you're either winning or you just became archenemy and will die for it.
That being said, friends forever does imply a million other partner variants silo-ed into themselves. That may be a good thing or a bad thing.
I know nothing about Stranger Things and don't know if these represent the characters well, but that still doesn't stop me from shaking my head and rolling my eyes as I looked at and read each one of these.

Can't be Partner, "Friends forever" cards don't partner with Partner cards and vice-versa and doing so would be functional errata, while Partners With wouldn't work if there are more than two Friends Forever cards (which is very likely). It seems the idea is to specifically isolate those cards on their own group.
That said, I don't like the "Friends forever" thing though, if it were me I'd just make a new mechanic that partners characters based on a special category, like for example "Friends with The Fellowship" for the LotR crossover. Maybe they didn't do it because they don't want to make special categories that they would have to change on functional reprints, but still.
As for the cards themselves... Eh, they are fine. Jim is decent as far as Boros legends goes, which is... not much of an accomplishment, really. Eleven has cool new design space, a spellslinger deck that wants you to have big draw spells instead of casting a billion spells per turn while also having enough safety valves to not be broken, but on the other hand, I know exactly how 99% of people will pilot Eleven (read: Turns) and I hate it.
I think that wizards needs to come up with a single ability that allows "partner within X subgroup". Maybe something like:
Allied: X (You may have two commanders if they both have "Allied: X")
That way, you can have Allied: Decepticons, Allied: Smash Bros, or Allied: Pro Skater and have it be represented as one ability rather than three different abilities that all essentially do the same thing.

I like that the end results will give us another green-less commander option but I'd rather wait for the magic versions to come out.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I'm wondering how they're going to fit everyone in. I'm hoping Steve is going to make it in so I can have a deck with him and Dustin lol. I think 5 color Eleven is going to be a fun deck to make spamming ultimatums every time she attacks sounds like fun.

I think it's funny that in order to balance eleven they had to make everyone she partnered with kinda lousy. If you want to go 5 colors she would have to go with Mike and that offers pretty minimal synergy. Eleven does seem fun though.

It looks like the other secret lairs are about to be announced on the weekly mtg stream as the "starting soon" screen is the same background appearing on the secret lair site. Let's see what today brings.

Yes. I bought the 10x Full Text lands bundle and they all came in together, though the box was a little dinged and 3 of the black boxes were dinged as well. The cards were safe however, so that's a plus.
Unless he's the secret include there's no Steve my heart is broken lol. I think Eleven, Hop, and Will are my favorites. I think Will could make an interesting commander. I wish one of them was simic so we could have an all the things investigate deck.
