Unlock all the spells from your graveyard with this servant of the ancient god of sea and storms. Just know you cannot stop what you've unleashed (unless you have Mindbreak Trap, Summary Dismissal or Unsubstantiate.)
Is this a reference to Runo Stromkirk's mysterious, pre-Avacynian sea god?
I remember many fans speculated about the sea god being behind the events of the previous Innistrad block, before Emrakul showed up. I would love for it to become relevant to the story someday.

Me too. They'd have to be careful to make sure it(?) feels different enough from the Eldazi though, especially with Emrakul's lingering affects on the plane keeping the Eldrazi relevant.
Also, he *has* to be kind of cold dressed like that in the middle of a stormy sea, right?
But CRAB ARMOR! My god if I don't now also wish to don a set of crabs legs as armor. I'm going to try testing this out in a few different Historic combo decks for sure.
If one of your opponents is playing Baral - they deserve to be iona'ed. But really, I have never seen a Baral deck be successful - there just isnt enough gas to counter all the relevant spells, so you pick on one player and they hate you and the other 2 players play one on one and no one has a good time.

Well, I'd certainly like to see more of Runo's gods, their kraken "avatars" or even Runo himself at this point...
Card is very good. Would be insane with Flash. Similar to Legend Teferi in a sense. Really impressed with this. I'll add it to my Azami deck and see. Such an amazing design. Love the art as well.
Kinda get the feeling that Lier, Disciple of the Drowned would be better in the 99 than as a Commander otherwise he just sets himself up for graveyard hate too easily and Mono U unfortunately doesn't have a whole lot of tools to get around that other than shuffling cards from your graveyard into your library. That being said I can see him being a potential powerhouse in my Esika, God of the Tree EDH / Commander deck which I mainly use for The Prismatic Bridge to poop out Legendary Creatures and Planeswalkers because netting a passive Past in Flames ability without having to worry about spells getting countered seems too good to pass up IMO.
I feel like I'll get much better value out of Lier, Disciple of the Drowned more than Sakashima of a Thousand Faces due to how powerful Flashback is in EDH / Commander plus I have access to other colors instead of being pigeon holed to just Mono U If the graveyard protection is still warranted based on what my playgroup is playing. Lier, Disciple of the Drowned If cast early through Jeweled Lotus could ruin someone at the table from casting that Force of Will or Pact of Negation to stop another player from comboing off on turn 5 which I've seen happen when everyone doesn't discuss Rule 0 and throws too much caution to the wind with cEDH decks.

RUNIN: Norse mythology set (awaiting further playtesting)
FATE of ALARA: Multicolour factions (currently on hiatus)
Contibutor to the Pyrulea community set
I'm here to tell you that all your set mechanics are bad

this card seems will enable combo decks until the end of the days.
that’s a group hug effect it’s missing “you control” or “you cast” part
so if you cast this successfully and one commander just happens to be Baral, Chief of Compliance you just basicly pulled a Iona, Shield of Emeria on that deck.
