Man these werewolves have been really flavorful, here you have a grave robber trying to keep the werewolf side at bay/not feed on living people by doing some corse nibbling.

I’m a bit unclear on all the details of Ward,
but does this thing let any player discard a card at any time?
Or do you have to actually cast a spell that would target it first?

Ward is a triggered ability that triggers when an opponent targets an object that has ward with a spell. The ability counters the spell unless the ward cost is paid.
So, no, it doesn't act like Wild Mongrel, unfortunately.
My dog at the park finding garbage lying around in the dirt:
This doggy likes his bones. Num num. I like that when it upgrades to wolf mode it gets a little bigger as usual and then just eats cards twice as fast. Hungry.

I think that's a woman, granted it seems that the mtg art for the female werewolves in this set lean a bit towards making women look more androgenous like with Tavern Ruffian.

Never forget whose grace and favor led to your success and always give your thanks, otherwise you might be doomed to loose it.
My only beef is that in the normal art, the lighting on the werewolf is off, way too shiny compared to its surrounding, which makes it clear it was added in independently by the artist. (The surroundings were clearly drawn separated and reused for both parts.) But at card-size it's not as bad.
The black rare Werewolf is simple, but effective graveyard hate. I wonder if these three black Werewolves are meant to be a vertical cycle.

I'm here to tell you that all your set mechanics are bad

...but only because I think I dated her back in college once.
Seems like a pretty strong card, too. Even without the ability to transform into a bigger badder version, the base stats and ability are threatening.
