It’s probably depicting his very last attack on dominaria after gerrard decapitated urza and ran away with his head after he realize yawgmoth tricked him that he would resurrect Hanna.
Not only is this the first Yawgmoth quote we have on a card -- this is, if I'm not mistaken, the first depiction of Yawgmoth that we have in his world-scouring death cloud form (Vindicate and Last Stand don't count). This looks to be Yawgmoth as he emerges at the climax of Apocalypse, his shadow casting death over Dominaria.
i hate that these continue to have sol rings and command towers. some of the card choices are lackluster. ghoulcaller gisa is cool, kinda... but not necessarily in a premium product. but hey at least i guess she's finally available in foil? neat? i like the original art much more. oh well. phyrexian arena has a billion printings, its iconic... but its not necessary to have it AGAIN when things like razaketh, necropotence, and dark confidant all exist and need another reprint sometime. i'm tired of seeing reanimate in every product. where's animate dead or necromancy or dance of the dead? where is literally anything else?
i'll pick up singles from this one - probably just gisa and liliana.

I sort of like the Sol Ring/Command Tower thing only because they're all color-specific art and I find it at least a little cool to rep your favorite color. That said, Reanimate only has one more recent printing than Animate Dead (Ultimate Masters and Jumpstart v. Eternal Masters), Phyrexian Arena is a staple that hasn't had a reprint since Conspiracy: Take the Crown, and Ophiomancer/Toxic Deluge are just great includes. Gisa and Liliana are a little weird though. Necropotence and Razaketh would have been sweet, although I didn't think Bob got played all that much in EDH.

Yawg in Vile offering is hin in his phyrexian god/plane form, he is refering to Yawg in the Death cloud form (from when he invaded dominaria at the mid of Apocalipse). He took the form of a cloud that would kill anyone that got engulfed by it. Thats basically Toxic Deluge card and art.

oh thing in that case barely possible to see but the purple background is yawgmoth in last stand
We can now have more hope for god/horror Yawgmoth soon, maybe in Dominaria United
Maybe Brother's war, think dominaria united will be present day dominaria, but i can be totally wrong, and don't mind if i do.
BTW in Brother's War we will have another shot on a Gix card (and is probably the only place they will be able to print it as the suplemental products gonna be UB)
Reanimate is a bit underwhelming artistically. Ghoulcaller is fine, but I prefer the original. That's about as negative as I can get on this collection. Toxic deluge and ophiomancer are gorgeous - they feel very much like the art was designed specifically for the card and not some generic art slapped in (looking at you sylvan library). The command tower and sol ring are home runs for black feeling versions of the two. My only complaint about liliana is that I love the original equally well. I think phyrexian arena is overplayed but it fits a community need.
They certainly had a large pool of cards to choose from and there are some cards I could certainly have hoped to see (dark ritual, demonic tutor) - but I am planning on purchasing this as opposed to the hard pass on the green one.
gree is indeed a lot better! and commander collection is not even cheap. I guess comparing it with other products, it is cheap. But by itself, it is quite expensive, and then we're getting very mediocre reprints. :/

Appreciate it might differ between countries but this has way more value than Green in the UK; green was basically library, worldly tutor then a load of filler. Deluge, Liliana, Ophiomancer, Reanimate and Arena are all valuable and much needed reprints, even Gisa holds value. If this has the same retail price as green at launch it's a home run for sure.
Would've been a great opportunity to reprint Imperial Seal, Liliana of the Veil, No Mercy, Exquisite Blood, and Demonic Consultation. So far the only good reprints out of this are Sol Ring, Command Tower, Ophiomancer which hasn't been reprinted before, and Reanimate which was recently reprinted in Jumpstart. Still kinda mad that we missed the boat on another Concordant Crossroads reprint for Commander Collection: Green but I've let it slide on account of much needed reprints for Worldly Tutor and Sylvan Library. Commander Collection: Black feels very lackluster compared to Green which got better reprints IMO. On a card flavor standpoint this feels like a home run however the execution could've been better.

There are 4 cards here at $20 with Deluge, Lilianna, Arena, and Ophiomancer (why is this card that much? Even without a reprint that still seems high) and the cheapest are Sol Ring and Command Tower. Reanimate may not be $20, but it is ~$10.
Looks like this is better than Green overall where that had useful stuff it was largely less value with only Sylvan Library and Worldly Tutor propping up the whole thing.
We can now have more hope for god/horror Yawgmoth soon, maybe in Dominaria United
more like Brothers war
but dude seriously phyrexian yawgmoth in standard and keeping him on level of power… that’s impossible in every level fans will 0% be satisfied with however they made phyrexian yawgmoth in that set fans were furious on O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami being absolutely weak compared to the lore.
on other words yawgmoth would would not even close to have a card as powerful as he is mentioned in the lore.
but there’s one phyrexian who is inevitable for the brothers war set
and that’s gix huge involvement on starting the whole thing.

When evaluating the value of something, you need to take into account not just the resultant values of cards, but the value of the cards prior to and up to the time of release.
OG Omnath and the FTV version were both $30 cards at the time CC: Green was announced. Both Freyalise’s were $12-$13. Seedborn Muse is currently the 21st most used card in Green according to EDHrec and despite numerous printings, refuses to budge from its $8-$10 price tag.
A lot of the cards in CC: Black will drop after their CC: B release, so comparing their pre-release prices to that of post-release CC: Green is apples to oranges. There was plenty of value in Green above the two cards you mentioned.

Also, when people will ever, ever learn that any character in Magic, no matter how powerful, never is shown his full power on any card, but simply a particular aspect of him in that moment? That's why we have so many different versions of a Jace, Chandra, Liliana etc.
Even the omnipotent JudeoChristian God could have many magic cards associated with him, all of them depicting him doing different particular actions, because obviously not a single card could cover them all. Same with every single MTG character in existence.

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn (Eldrazi titans in general) is the kind of powerlevel you expect a world-ending death-machine monster to have.
Annihilate as a mechanic is pretty great to enforce that destructive power, as everytime these monsters make a move, the table is shaking up (or the game ends in just 1 attack).
Final Judgment was a show of force what O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami could have been, a massively more powerful effect to express a world-destroying power.
In flavor an entire army was not even close to a match to face the big-bad-daddy Kami, it was just exiled all together.
And something that powerful should not be a tiny 6/6.
The power/thoughness issue of modern Magic is a thing that hurts flavor of a card.
If something gigantic is not reflected with a properly giant power/thoughness it is a stane on the card.
If a super powerful being does not have a reflected effect that is that powerful, its another stane.
If too much of a card does not reflect the character, you end up with a mockery of the character, and thats a insult to fans of that character.
It comes down to designing a card for a flavor and theme. These super destructive mega monsters need something that expresses exactly that theme on the card.
The "essence" of a character should be expressed in a card as good as possible.
Instead WotC designed some cards and slapped the names on them , doing the reverse and dishonoring the entire flavor and theme of said characters, thats a way to please nobody and disappoint everyone.
Simply put, just because you CAN do it, if its not done properly and in respect of the character, lore and flavor, you might not have to do it, if you properly respect your franchise (which WotC sincerely does not do anymore at all, they did like 20 years ago).
Cards that show yawgmoth power tend to be super broken Magic cards, at least the ones that people remember, as they forget about all the cards that see no play anyway.
If people dont get something along that powerlevel they will be disappointed. And if you cannot release a card with that powerlevel, well, simply dont do the card or character, as you set yourself up for failure from the get go.
Yawgmoth, Thran Physician is quite a disappointment for a bunch of fans, but it still does something unique and powerful so others love the card regardless.
Even the omnipotent JudeoChristian God could have many magic cards associated with him, all of them depicting him doing different particular actions, because obviously not a single card could cover them all. Same with every single MTG character in existence.
A god-like destructive power is quite nicely expressed in these mass-removal cards, as thats the power you expect them to have, and not a physical body to kill.
If a god has a "avatar" as a body, its not the character itself, just a tiny bit of its power in a physical body (but in that case its important to actually reference to that as a avatar, instead of the actual name).
Separate thread for this set, because we have all the cards announced. Like Commander Collection: Green, this contains 8 cards, including Sol Ring and Command Tower. Unlike the previous Commander Collection: we're getting a DFC (Liliana, Heretical Healer//Liliana, Defiant Necromancer) and a DFC token with a Zombie on one side and a Snake on the other. Commander Collection: Black releases on January 28, 2022.
(Look in the clouds you see the exact same head found in yawgmoth's vile offering)
