The carpet of flowers one also has sanctum prelate, so that's something.
Kind of like these, honestly. Looks like they'll be available tomorrow as well.
I'm going to feel pretty sad if the announcement stream tomorrow has the speakers try to surprise us with the lairs being available "right now" as their big "shock and awe" moment. Makes me wonder if this advertisement was supposed to wait until tomorrow.
Edit: I also see heartless hidetsugu, Toshiro umezawa, one of the two ohran snow snakes, and sphere of safety hanging in there. The only card I can’t see for sure is the green kamigawa legend and I’m 99% sure that’s reki.
Carpet of Flowers looks amazing, should be a reprint in some other set than this.
Classic recipe of at least 1 card thats appealing to EDH/Commander people and hope it sells for that reason alone.
What they thought of the old-school template is beyond me ... its such a terrible idea, as somebody WILL play these in a tournament or casually and they are a confusing mess, if somebody wants to read them.
Thats exactly the kind of design you want to AVOID at all cost, as its bad for the game overall.

you know what now I can speculate it might be the Johannes Voss secret lair
because you will notice karmic guide is in that lair
OK, most of the old border treatments have been fine, but that templating is awful.
That is kind of the point, if PWs were made 25 years ago that's exactly how they would have looked.
With that said if the PW one is cheap that is a stupid good deal.
The rest don't look all that interesting, one big card among each group, but even then they are looking a bit....eh.
Yeah, the planeswalkers looking like they came out back when creature cards were called "Summons" and having rules text akin to the full-text basic lands just to cram all their rules in is hilarious.

Umm we have promos that literally have no text to them and a whole subset of cards that are only in Japanese I think they’re fine. If there’s questions a judge or your cellphone will work. Besides I really like the art for them.

The text-less cards are in general done for trivial cards that dont need explaination (exceptions exist, like Cryptic Command).
Not having text at all would even be preferable to this text-box mess (from an art-style perspective and a gameplay perspective).

If a card has a bunch of text on it, just to be confusing, its not helping.
Beside the text-box idiocity , the cards look absolutely fine in old-border and would be a welcome nice addition ... but with that treatment ? Hell no.
The walkers have good art but having pre legend text rules on them is soo ugly, hard pass because i like the walkers (and they are good and in tier 1 decks)
All the other secrety lair looks to have good reprints, need to see the art but the "reanimator"(?) one looks nice (spellskite, ob, sliver overlord, etc are good)
with a kamigawa focus lair that’s probably triple confirms kamigawa neon dynasty.
I agree. This might be a bit of a stretch, but the old bordered planeswalkers also kinda give more credibility to Dominaria United as well. A new Dominaria set would make the most sense for those types of cards imo.
As an aside, I wonder if there's a story behind how they settled on the templating for those planeswalkers, and if they'll share it. Like "we got in touch with some of the people who did templating on the original Legends cards and asked them how they'd template planeswalkers if they had been printed in 1994, and this is what they came up with!"
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I may be interested in the old border walkers at $29.99 at $39.99 I may be out even though the value would be there at the higher price.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.

At least the cards explains themselves what they do even if you never saw them before in your life. I remember the first times I did tournaments and I know very little about what was played in that time, that the worst players were the ones bringing out cards with japanese text or textless like a special promo of cryptic command. For a new player, nothing is worse than that.
Probably getting the Voss one, and maybe the PWs or Kamigawa Ink. I frankly love the old templating--it's terrible because the old templating was terrible. That's actually the entire selling point. These are collector items and the old templating generates nostalgia. As far as issues with playing with them--sure people can play these in tourneys/EDH but (1) if it's FNM it's an eternal format, and all of these cards are pretty well-known and (2) if someone doesn't it's super easy to just pull up a picture of the card. They're not going to be problematic at all.

yeah but outside of Dack the same could be said about their recognition. They were heavily played when they were in standard and see some play in modern don’t they? And both of them have Japanese promos that are popular as well. I think it’s more flavor than anything because comparing it to cards from magics beginning they are worded similarly. I mean even with rewording bending is still incomprehensible.

Not a fan of the old bordered Planeswalkers. Wall of text. I think the old border look could've still been used w/ the current templating of Planeswalkers. The starting loyalty box could still fit w/o breaking the text boxes border.

That art by Johanne Voss really fits for karmic guide.

The Brazen Borrower lair looks like it's got Thragtusk in it, the Carpet of Flowers lair looks like it has Sanctum Prelate, Karmic Guide, and Sphere of Safety in it, and the Sliver Hivelord one also has Spellskite, Sire of Insanity, and Ob Nixilis Reignited. Those last 3 are definitely going for power and value (at least in Spike's POV).

Also, the kamigawa one has Toshiro umezawa, Heartless Hidetsugu and Kami of the crescent moon from what i can see. What was the green character from the Kamigawa novels? (judging by mana cost there are a few that fit: Reki, the History of Kamigawa Azusa, Lost but Seeking Isao, Enlightened Bushi Shisato, Whispering Hunter or Kodama of the Center Tree)(guess it is Reiki)

They should have done a new border in the old style. Custom borders existed back then too, like for split cards. :/
Now all the cards can be seen
Have a look also have lair names
Kamigawa ink
Johnannes voss
Thomas M. Baxa
Math is for Blockers
Teferi's time trouble
Oh by the way the frame on karn so that… is what a eldrazi/colorless card in old border would look like.

Nice to finally see some new art for the otherwise hideous Thragtusk.
I'd love to have a playset of that old border Teferi, even with the stupid text box, but I don't want to know the price he'll get as a single.
Nothing interesting, but I am liking that Brazen Borrower is being reprinted.
