Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
In my opinion, having a terrible selection of cards is exactly how you would want to do a convention-specific secret lair. If this sort of secret lair had the great henge or parallel lives or some similarly valuable card, people would be blowing a gasket.
I will agree that a cat-themed secret lair could have had more cat-themed cards, though.
OK, Generous Gift and its elephant (and its elephant-themed art) really don't look like they fit in this Cat Secret Lair. The flavour text doesn't do enough to salvage it, IMO.
are we out of good cards for secret lairs already ?
considering the price they ask for these things (and i doubt this one will be cheaper) i dont think this is a fair product.
even if you r just a collector, u usually want cards that also have a high play value, which causes these rare items to be more valueable too.
I wouldn't mind more AyakoIshiguro art, or more pointless bling as Secret Lairs. If these were chase cards, people would throw endless fits about hiding expensive and inaccessible cards in equally expensive and inaccessible releases.
OK, Generous Gift and its elephant (and its elephant-themed art) really don't look like they fit in this Cat Secret Lair. The flavour text doesn't do enough to salvage it, IMO.
It's a cat dressed up as an elephant... Probably follows "Elephant in the room."
Kodama's Reeach very common staple played basically in every green deck.
Yeaaah ... I get that (although Heirloom Blade is clearly the odd one out here), but that doesn't explain the cat theme or the classic Japanese art style.
Like, I would get it if this was Artist Series: Ayako Ishiguro. They leave a lot of stuff up to the artist for those, so in that case I would just go "hm, she probably likes cats and blended that with her style." But that's not the case here - this was concepted as Secret Lair: Purrfection for some mystery reason, and for another mystery reason they chose to make it all Japanese-style. I'm OK with all of these individual things, but I just don't see how they're supposed to make a coherent product.
Maybe it really is just like Morphling said: They know that people are going to shell out for these, so they just threw some darts for the rest of the concept. The concept doesn't really matter as long as the product looks special, is what I'm getting sensing here.

That's truly a great point. You're paying for the art here, not the powerful card.
Looks like those on the design team really like *****…cats 🤔
Tons of people on the internet like cats to almost obsession level. They just want to cash in.
I'm surprised they haven't done the memes secret lair yet.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

if you do further inspection
its Is a cat in a elephant costume
Thus my mention of elephant-themed art (to reflect the elephant in the rules text).
Beast Within would have made a lot more flavour sense in this Cat Secret Lair, but I hear Wizards regrets printing that card.
Okay, get rid of Generous Gift and maybe also Chain Lightning and add one or two cards that are actually related to cats. I don't thing any of these are even valuable/sought after.

As for the cards and artwork. Okay? Interesting style I guess.

Many Magic players like cats. Some Magic players like Kamigawa. Many Magic players can't control their wallets.
This is the Venn diagram that drove this product.

Seems all cards have at least one thing in common. Being playable (at least in casual envinroments) in commander.
Chain Lightning can be used as a political Lightning Bolt
Generous Gift it's a staple for monowhite decks.
Heirloom Blade a classical draw engine for tribal decks
Kodama's Reeach very common staple played basically in every green deck.
