However, today we have some promo previews going into the Midnight Hunt in this sneak preview stream, including the return of flashback (now in multicolor), some good removal and card filtering, references to thirteen and the first Innistrad set, monochrome basic lands (supposedly with high-gloss on the mana symbol and colored parts) and a new Wrenn.
Yes, there are regular basics.
Previews start in three weeks. Note that there seems to be no Werewolf Commander precon. Reason given during the stream is that the volume of DFCs required to pull it off is not something they want (read: it's going to be expensive to print) for precon products, along with a different Werewolf execution for the set.

Midnight hunt has Undead Unleashed (zombie Tribal) and Coven Counters (+1/+1 matters its commander here)
Crimson vow has Spirit Squadron (spirit tribal) and Vampiric Bloodline (Vampire tribal)
thats right none are werewolf tribal they really can't let go of no DFC in commander decks can they...BUT they said they have something planned on how they do the werewolfs

Still, i have to wonder how bad forgotten realms is doing, and how poorly received arena jumpstart exclusives are, that they pushed these previews out so close to those releases. It feels like a deflection tactic. Dont focus on those, focus on these instead.
I honestly thought that Sorin would stay unmarried forever. Part of me's still wishing that the wedding is between Olivia Voldaren and Runo Stromkirk instead. Part of me thinks that Runo is still bound to an oath of celibacy back when he was a priest of sea gods.

The power level and innovation are next level with this set, clearly.
I love the vibe of the regular basic lands. The black and white full arts are nice too, but something about the pumpkin patch plains and the drowned geists in the island give me this sweet Halloween vibe that I'm really feeling thematically for this set.

I absolutely LOVE the punkin' patch Plains. I want multiple playsets in foil.
The Swamp with the raven is also fabulous. Again multiple playsets in foil. I may have to buy a couple of bundle packs to get these in foil.

There was apparently a contingent of WPN stores that didn't like how late in the spoiler cycle Wizards showed most of their promos. Most stores need to start preordering by Monday, so they decided to just drop most of the promos to appease that group.

Better is debatable. Stronger? Certainly. But it'll draw instant hate the minute it hits the table, whereas the pinger will likely stick around until it's too late.
New Wrenn seems interesting, but at a certain point, it's like "what are you even doing with all that mana/those lands" that you need/want 14 lands or something on the battlefield, since it already costs 5 mana to play.
Well...I guess you can play the "how many basics are you running?" game in any format where Loam is legal, because you could easily get to a point where you have 3 Ghost Quarter, Wasteland, Field of Ruin, or whatever in your bin and you can loop that every turn.

The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I know, I know, I know. I am supposed to hold judgement until the set has been revealed and blah, blah, blah.
But damnit I hate that I have to start off feeling let down by previews of the set I am most excited over, the set that felt like it was going to be built for me. MIDNIGHT HUNT and there’s NO WEREWOLF COMMANDER DECK?!? You previewed ZERO werewolves in the MIDNIGHT HUNT initial preview?!
