In the most recent questionnaire released by WotC, they ask a few questions about Planechase Commander. Would we like a product like this? It sounds like they're putting something in the works.
Planechase is something I have seen many people request again, and is a fun and unique addition to any Magic game. I for one support this and would love to see what kinds of designs they come up with.
Please god no, Planechase is a nightmare and once the novelty wears off everyone who has ever tried it grows to hate it. Deckbuilding and skill are completely negated and it becomes all about who rolls better and which random plane helps who the most. I collected every deck to acquired every plane as they were released, including promos, and I can say unequivocally that there hasn't been a worse variant format to date.

I wouldn't say everyone. My LGS has a planechase night because it's so popular. I think the randomness is strong, but it also gives players a chance to have weird games. Deckbuilding doesn't go out the window; some of the planes will sync well with different decks people play. Besides, if someone hits a busted plane, you know everyone else will try to roll out of it.

Dude, it's since 2012 that I ALWAYS play Commander with the planechase variant with every kind of playgroups (I even own all the Planes and promos too, I even bought Planechase Anthology) and every single friend that played with me in all these years absolutely LOVED this variant, including me of course, and is one of those few magic products I would ever spend money for. You have to realize that many, many players loves the chaos and unpredictable random effects in a game (because, you know, EDH is a casual format, is not about having boringly always things under control) so speak only for yourself please and do not pretend to speak for all the magic playerbase who actually love the format.

Sorry Evil, I'm siding with Cranky. Once you figure out the planes players will sit on ones that suit themselves and it just adds complexity. We played it plenty of times and found it cumbersome once players were familiar with the planes.
I'm all for add-ons but it's current form is not great for EDH.

I don't care if you side with him, everybody have the right to have their subjective tastes about everything. But Cranky said something very different, that "everyone who has ever tried it grows to hate it.", and that is simply and straight FALSE.
Also, first of all I always play in the "share a common plane deck" variant. Which means that even if a particular plane suits for a player, it's very likely that others won't like it. Even in the case of a plane pleasing everybody without the need to roll of chaos effect, if a player see that is kinda losing because the oppnent's board state it's overhelming, you will be incentived to roll the dice in the hope to flip for something that could save you (like a Morphic Tide or Planar wrath of god for example). So I have no idea how do you guys play planechase but if you don't have fun with it, it's either because it just simply do not suits for you or you are playing it in the wrong way.

The biggest issue with planechase and any semi-competitive deck is the amount of mana that the decks can produce, and at that point it becomes atrocious to play with them. If each player has 10+ mana a turn, its just dice rolling for minutes.
A variant i liked a lot more is to simply only allow 1 dice roll a turn for a player, not more for a manacost.
And guarantee a planeswalk after a turn cycle +1 turn, so in case the game gets stuck on a plane, its not just game over.
This is much faster and much more fair.
----
For not too competitive decks planes produce some added effects that are interesting, if nothing too crazy of loops happen (as there are plenty of problems that combo out with planes).
I get why some EDH players don't like it, but playing the Eternities Map variant makes is less disruptive and can add a bit of strategy.
I'd be interested to see if they actually added rules for playing with Commander or if they just made PCH relevant cards.
It's been years since we've gotten any new plane cards; there are a lot of new places to go and they never made an Esper. If they decide to use the Commander product to give it another try it's fine by me.

Don't play with all planes in a single deck, it's shot. Should be played with every player having their planar deck-
I'm all for it, planechase commander is super fun
EDIT: where is the survey?

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

i have to completely disagree.
my playgroup has loved it, and has enjoyed it almost every time we've played it. the volatility and randomness makes for some really intense and different games. sometimes you get a plane that pushes someone miles ahead (otaria) but when you play with every plane it doesn't come up that often. people also try to abuse certain ones and that makes you move onto another one pretty fast usually too. people like to say it turns into a slog where someone has a berjillion mana and just keeps rolling... but in practice that really hasn't been the case for us. newer or crappier players sure, but then they're just sitting there rolling and not doing anything. that's pretty much what they were going to do with all that mana in a normal game anyway, sit there and not do anything.
it is crap for cedh though, way too inconsistent and volatile, but also largely doesn't matter with those types of decks because they tend to ignore the planar die anyway.
the real problem for us regarding planechase has been there is almost always one guy who shares your mentality of it. they moan and gripe and carry on because they got blown out once due to randomness, or they got stuck in a 3 hour game for the same reason. as a result we have to wait for them to leave so we can play without excluding them from the night, and then we have a blast. sometimes we have enough people and interest to set up a planechase pod in addition to the normal pods. by the end of the night most players are chomping at the bit to be in that pod because of how much more fun it is than sitting there losing to a t3 thoracle.
Bought all planechase cards before the anthology came out and my commandergroup plays it regularly since. Before the shutdowns at least biweekly (our commander playgroup meets weekly). And while there are some randomness feelbads there are some awesome comebacks. The planechase games usually take an hour or so longer which is the biggest downside for our group as we start relatively late so we tend to have only one or two games on planechase night where we usually have 3 or 4.
We mostly play from one deck, but sometimes play the map variant or "draft" the planechase cards for the round.
I also have most of the archenemy cards and we play that much less about once every couple of months.
Deckbuilding and skill are completely negated and it becomes all about who rolls better and which random plane helps who the most.
This sounds like you just aren't building your planar deck to match your deck's strengths. Instead of including 10 random planes/phenomena, pick 10 that actually work with your deck (or at least don't hurt it).
Maybe you haven't played enough to grow to hate it? Kind of impossible to refute really cause you either hate it or just haven't played enough.
Dude I said it. Since 2012 (9 years of playing) multiple playgroups in all these years, both LGS, Comic-cons and Kitchen Table, all enjoying exactly like me. Even in this same thread you have multiple evidence of people enjoying the format besides me.
You have the cognitive bias that simply because you or your friend don't like something or is simply not for you, then all the world have your same feelings about that thing. Get rid of that illusion.
Maybe you haven't played enough to grow to hate it? Kind of impossible to refute really cause you either hate it or just haven't played enough.
"If you enjoy a thing I hate, then that just means you don't know as much about it as I do." is one hell of a terrible take.
Personally, I loved planechase, but I'm a sucker for random formats like momir vig and a format we play at home with a shared library. To each their own, but don't act as if your opinion on what's fun is the only valid one, geez.
both planechases were basically a small commander-ish collection of decks. First one had a few legendaries for the themes while the seccond one was marketed around the new legendary creatures.
If only the next archenemy product to come (hopefully) also comes with commander decks then i can say that wotc finally gets their multiplayer crowd.
I hope they will make a commander archenemy to make more balanced intrigues. The Nicol Bolas ones were either unplayable garbage or overpowered.
It's kinda a similar situation with planes too. There are few good planes that go in almost every deck, we need more variety.

i've always wished that they'd release a planechase deck with each new block - or i guess new set since they can't be bothered with blocks any more
something like just a nice little 60 card precon and 5 planes. nothing fancy. 1 throwback plane, 1 preview plane for the next set, and 3 from that set.
hell, make it a commander deck and the planes are just a bonus or something
Okay...will they design new Plane cards to go along with it? Seems kinda redundant if they create this and don't deliver on their marquee feature of that particular product.
Otherwise, if they do, I hope they feature plane cards from known planes and those yet to be discovered and/or expanded upon. Like Pyrulea.

Btw now that almost all standard sets comes with a commander deck the commander decks that are released each year (and are not linked to a standard set) kinda need something extra and i guess this will hopefully be it. If this is the case then congratulations to wotc team, they went above my expectations on this one.

Well for sure they are going to make new plane cards. Theros, Tarkir, Kaladesh, Amonkhet, Ixalan, Eldraine, Ikoria, Kaldheim, Strixhaven... tons of explored planes with interesting locations and 0 planar cards (well, except Kaldheim).
Idk if they will make new planes tho because last planechase was a debacle. Mongseng, Arkos? All swept away by copyright. Belenon, Muraganda, Ir? What are those? Probably we'll never see them.
Only plane who got lucky was Kaldheim but that still messed up Valla.
