If they wanted to test unique effects, they shouldn't have made desirable characters with new desirable artwork as the cards. What an absurd concept entirely. People have been waiting for Kiora and Davriel, and they pull this exclusion crap? Screw off. And now it's a giant uphill battle for their incompetence.
I get you anger, but your point makes no sense. They are trying this new shiny thing, of course they are gonna sugar coat it with cool characters and amazing arts. They need this to be successfull.
Characters like Davriel, Kiora and Sarkhan are perfect for this because they are iconic, liked by the players... but at the same wotc doesn't ******* knows what to do with them.
Davriel has the big baggage of being Sanderson's character. They can't risk to ruin him.
Kiora has no point anymore since the eldrazi where defeated.... with her contribution being 0.
Sarkhan storyline is done too.
They need to invent new storylines for these characters but according to the leaks they will too busy doing the phyrexian arc.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Yeah, lets put the new mechanics on cards people DON'T want to play. That makes sense.

It only makes sense in paper. This is just creating exclusion and fragmenting interest between two platforms

Then why do somenthig like seek in the first place, other than greed, loosing the identity of the game in the process? Is this a cardgame or a videogame?
When you go after somenthig and you do everything to get it including loosing your identity then you are greedy

Is magic a 2 player game or a (larger) multiplayer game? It was once just about 2 player, but people liked to play multiplayer, so they made cards for that. Is it about collecting, deckbuilding, or drafting? Every set has cards for all 3. Magic has evolved so far from what it what originally meant to be, and gone in so many directions already that adding one more dimension is hardly "losing its identity."

True, and to be frank, Magic is so old, that it has a nostalgic identity and a "new" identity at the same time.
And people play different aspects of the game, and if one of them changes drastically, its losing the identity for them, while it might be appreciated by someone else.
Its basically a Win-Lose situation, as pleasing everyone is never going to happen.
I could see Sheldon Menery make an excuse for players who are wanting to run Digital Exclusive cards from Arena for Paper EDH / Commander by printing them off with a color ink jet printer to make playable proxies. Not sure If the EDH Rules Committee is willing to tackle how to incorporate these Digital Exclusive game mechanics in Paper when it was purposely designed not to be duplicated for that reason. If someone finds a way to make it work in Paper then more power to them I guess. There IS a limitation to what gameplay designers and playtesters are able to accomplish on Paper compared to Digital as we haven't quite scrapped the bottom of the barrel of new ideas as much as Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro thinks they have with MTG itself at least not yet anyway. There's still a lot of new possibilities with the current existing card pool that's left unexplored.
With Hearthstone no longer being a competition to Arena with Activision / Blizzard going out of business soon, Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro can literally swoop in and buy all the rights to Hearthstone from them and still stay ahead of the curve within the Digital Card Game Market with the main competitors being Legends of Runeterra and Shadowverse. Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro is probably looking to acquire the majority of Hearthstone players for Arena due to the game's online server getting shut down with Activision / Blizzard going belly up though they might move on to other Digital Exclusive Card Games out right now. Unlike Paper Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games the market for these Digital Exclusive Card Games aren't as crowded BECAUSE they don't rely as much on a Secondary Market which lowers the barrier of entry to players in order to play tremendously.
Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro is actively trying to price players out of EDH / Commander, Modern, Pioneer, and Legacy in Paper while simultaneously turning Paper Magic into nothing more than a collector's item for collecting and investing similar to the Reserve List with Arena potentially being the only choice for players to actually play MTG being on a Digital Exclusive format. The beauty of MTG is being able to play the game however you want as long as you're following the rules of a given format you're playing in within the official rules of the game itself but by shoehorning players into Arena because Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro is salty that EDH / Commander is more popular than Paper Standard is a bit childish at best If that happens to be the case. They tried with Brawl I'll give them that at least though it would've been better If it was a non-rotating format IMO kinda like Oathbreaker.

Except it's not both.
These cards are in digital, and not in paper. And that inherently is the problem. This represents a moment of divergence between the two platforms, and yes, that's an issue and concern. This cannot be a precedent going forward. Arena should be a digital form of paper Magic. The moment we're forced to choose between the two depending on the type of Magic experience we wish to have, or cards we hope to access, or whatever remaining and unforseen divides lay ahead, is when the playerbase fragments even more. Part of the appeal of Commander is the social aspect, and they're undermining that.

While I wouldn't be surprised Arena taking over Magic I doubt Hasbro is looking to get rid of WotC, considering Magic is making more than ever and D&D is taking off in a myriad of ways.

Do you really think people are gonna stop playing commander with their friends because they want to play with some Arena exclusive cards? They also make paper cards that don't function in commander, are those undermining socialization too?

Hasbro is fattening wizards for a sale in the future or to become an online only game.
Rudy did post a video about it 3 years ago saying that Hasbro is "prepping" Wizards of the Coast to be sold this year and so far it hasn't happened yet. If transportation costs continue to rise due to market inflation then MTG players won't have any choice BUT to play Arena or play EDH / Commander via SpellTable. This is how dead set Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro are at hammering down Standard as the premier format for Magic: The Gathering that's just now diverging from it's Paper incarnation, not EDH / Commander or these "other" formats that players enjoy playing more that have more variance involved. There's this false notion that female players hate the concept of Local Game Stores (LGSs) as a physical location to play Paper Magic In-Person so they're wanting to get rid of these stores and force EVERYONE to play online. That's not going to solve any problems IMO.
Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro apparently is incapable of multitasking both Paper and Digital versions of Standard when Digital is more easier to manage than in Paper where it's merely an excuse to sell cards to EDH / Commander players. Not to mention that emergency bans for problematic cards are far less impactful in Digital than they are in Paper where players end up losing physical money on cards that they're now forced to use in eternal formats that they most likely don't care about. If one of your cards got banned on Arena you could recoup the losses much easier than you would in Paper as it's less of a hassle because it isn't a tangible item that you can easily sell onto the Secondary Market when Arena isn't meant to have a Secondary Market. It makes me wonder why MTGO is still a thing in 2021 when the gameplay graphics and animation aren't even up to par with Arena.

Why is this moment of divergence and not the Arena beginners set, or the Magic Online Vanguard Avatars, or Gleemox?
Because those are absurd and cornercase examples. Arena Beginners were almost all of them contructed unplayable (except Inspiring Commander and maybe Soulhunter Rakshasa), and anyway, I'm the first saying that they should've never did Inspiring Commander digital-only instead of printing him in a monowhite commander pre-con that disperately needs this kind of card draw engine (what the hell, it even got the frickin word COMMANDER in his own name!)
Nobody play or even know the existence of the regular paper vanguard and you think people would be offended for digital only vanguards? please
And don't get me with the Gleemox. A strictly better Alpha Mox that it even AUTOBAN itself in his rule text. A card that would be legal in no format anyway, is such broken.
On the other hand, this 31 Jumpstart Historic cards are a completely, radical, different issues from the ones you listed. First of all because are regular magic cards and not some absurd and obscure variant nobody ever hear about (like vanguard), they are available outside the tutorial decks, they do not have a "this card is banned" in the frickin rule text, nor they're silver bordered and their power level, mechanics and flavor is insteresting and balanced enough (we even got a whole cycle of 5 new planeswalkers of each color) to be playable in multiple formats (EDH, Brawl. Pioneer, Modern, Standard, Pauper, maybe even Legacy and Vintage) and that's why feel an enormous waste to have this design potential in digital only magic.

You said that having cards in only digital was inherently a problem. Sounds like you're backing off that if those examples do not count.
Vanguard avatars in particular are notable here because they were mostly designed in such a way that they would function perfectly well in paper. In fact, the concept originated as a paper magic variant, which they then turned into an online exclusive.
Also, most silver bordered cards would be fine in regular magic if you tolerate stuff like the ridiculous workarounds that have been suggested for making these cards work. Should they print Booster Tutor in black border because it can work?
You said that having cards in only digital was inherently a problem.
Sure they are, not for nothing I am the one still *****ing about Inspiring Commander not being paper legal. But there are major problems and minor problems, and all the reasons (absurd format that nobody plays or even care about, autobanned cards with absurd power level etc) explain why is just laughable from you to say that a Gleemox and a Skyshroud Ambush are the same thing only because they share one single thing, being ditigal.

I actually already play silver-bordered cards in kitchen table game with my friends, so it's not that big deal. What makes me really upset is that I won't even have a physical copy of any of those cards and I will be forced to do some crappy proxies instead, if I wanna ever get a chance to play them in EDH with my playgroup, and that is sucky. I would be more ok if this stuff was actually silver-bordered so it would see actually a real life print.
