If it's 10,000 then to them the Kami war was almost as far back as the invention of agriculture is to us. Eiganjo Castle could be there Gobekli Tepe.
Funny thing is, i'm willingly to bet with everyone that kami are going to be "dead" and won't return. Kami were too weird obscure for the western public and were badly received. They were also a parasitic mess mechanically. Also they don't mesh at all with the cyberpunk theme. So i think they won't be there.
The problem with the kami wasn't that they were too weird and obscure. The problem was their high numbers in the set (roughly 50%) WHILE being weird and obscure. Weird an obscure stuff is present in all worlds/sets, just usually restricted to higher rarities. See Prowling Serpopard and Hundred-Handed One.
If i were a betting man I'd bet money that kami will return, just in vastly reduced numbers (which, honestly, fits the lore as they only appeared in huge numbers during the kami war), probably a few one-offs here, a cycle there, mostly at higher rarities. And they don't need to have any of the parasitic mechanics. I do not expect spiritcraft and soulshift to return and if splice returns, then probably in its updated "splice onto instant/sorcery" form.

I definitely think this is right on the money of whats gonna happen
Now spiritcraft I do want to remind that probably possible mechanic for the commander precon for this set (if real ofcoarse) because we know if this is true you can safely wager the wait will end for a spirit tribal legend that's at least abzan
(O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami doesn't cut it since no support and fans have been want spirit tribal ever since commander 2017 and Morophon, the Boundless doesn't feel right to some people due to lore/flavor reasons)
Yeah, I doubt the kami are totally gone from Kamigawa, but a decreased presence certainly seems likely as both plot and marketing seem like they would push that way.
Our glimpse of Kamigawa with Yuriko doesn't indicate it is cyberpunk, and Neon Dynasty doesn't need to mean that. Unless she was from old timeline Kamigawa.
I'd prefer an updated, resonant Kamigawa, but still retain that feudal theme.

But wouldn't it be nice, just once, to buck the trend of fantasy worlds caught in inexplicable technological and sociological stagnation?

They can just say (similar to real Japan) that a lot part of the plane is city/modernized but in more traditional in more rural parts and Tamiyo, Yuriko, ect are just in those areas.

Do it with Dominaria then. I’m honestly prepared to dislike Kamigawa because it’s likely to miss the parts of the original I liked. Which is sad but to be expected. Cyberpunk is not what I want at all.

But last time we went to Dominaria the descendants of the Weatherlight crew rebuilt the Weatherlight and fought the Cabal while Tetsuko Umezawa was walking around talking about Toshiro like he saw him last week. 2 apocalypses didn't change the social structures there.

Kind of irrelevant, VII is a one of originally, and the sequels/prequels keep the world consistent to the original (more or less). If you mean for the series as a whole that’s more relevant but even then that really goes to VI first for bucking trends not VII.

I'd love to see Dominaria evolve too, I was not a big fan of the nostalgia for nostalgia's sake thing that's become its theme. Rehashing the same old stuff, especially when it makes no sense given the time scale and the story so far, is "somehow, Palpatine returned" level bad storytelling.
Being fair, nostalgia is really the only reason to go to Dominaria. It doesn’t really have an identity outside of that, though some subsections of it do. I’m pretty positive that’s part of why they did what they did and that they said as much. What other hook would there be for the place? Post apocalyptic is the only other one I’ve seen suggested but it wasn’t hit that hard and as one can see with Zendikar blowing up a plane tends to have some backlash which makes it a bad idea.

This. This is what I want.
Do not worry, you are not getting your rare (or, shall I say, well-done) blue traitorous wizard boy anyway
Get off my lawn and don't come back
I fully expect if I ever see Choryu, it'll be in a supplemental product, instead of as Jenrik territory. I really would love to see Kamigawa as a more resonant Japan world, that reintroduces what was admired about the original, and not some tech/cyberpunk world. Anime influences can be permissible to an extent, if they go the Sailor Moon/Crystal Tokyo route. But if it's mechas and all that mess, like Gundam or something, then I don't know. There's enough in anime that would align well with feudal Japan and magic/fantasy without resorting to another extreme.
I hope they get the balance right, because I am not about to tolerate Kamigawa being blamed, when it is in fact adored and has potential.
My bet is this set will be 90% anime 10% kamigawa. It's not a return to kamigawa set, it's a japanese-themed set that was called kamigawa to throw a bone to old fans. That's how hey convinced daddy Hasbro to print it.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Do we know if Yuriko is "currently alive in Kamigawa" or just a character from the old world? I didn't know there was any lore about her, only she's a cool card in a brutal deck hehe. There's nothing on her art that indicates she's in a Cyberpunk Neon Dynasty, but if a theme is going to be old vs new then she could definitely be "alive right now"
Would love to see more of her and some ninjas. that Tiger's Shadow card is so sick.
Oh I do have a rumor that kamigawa is gonna be old vs new thing
I mean, that would be workable maybe. Honestly at this point I expect them to retcon Tamiyo or have her be the lone oddball when it comes to Spirit stuff so it’s hard to go worse than that.

From when this was first leaked it out right called Kamigawa, "a cyberpunk Japan-inspired plane".
