Really more of an upgraded stealer of secrets. Looting is a specific effect - draw then discard. This ability is really Curiosity on a body.

The OG creature with this effect was ophidian

But yeah, this card is still the first 3cmc creature with 3/2 stats that can do this. Not *strictly* better than all others others, since sometimes you may want your creature to have 3 toughness. And Jhessian Thief *could* get bigger.
