Looks like GU "ramp and card draw" is the new UB mill. Can we go back to the bad +1/+1 counter decks again, Wizards? I promise I won't complain if we go there again for another decade.
If you can infinite on either of them then I think it's gonna be moot most of the time. Maybe having the land in your hand is better for discard stuff, who knows.
I HIGHLY doubt she would see play as commander in any real number over Thrasios because of the lack of partner and the overall similarity of the card.

Only reason I can see is budget. A fifty cent uncommon vs a thirty dollar rare. Budget decks can be a lot of fun, though. I'll probably throw her in the 99 of my budget Tatyova deck.
Meanwhile Training Grounds goes up in price again without another reprint in sight...

Slap to the face. Thrasios was already a mistake with no tap on ability, and now they go ahead and make a better one, still without tapping.

That's what scry 4 is for, to keep digging for lands. Gretchen requires the cards in your hand to contribute; Thrasios just burns through your deck, no strings attached.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. If you're putting a land into play off the top of your library, that's quite a lot like drawing the land and playing the land.
Thrasios is a vastly better card simply because of Partner, but also not having blue and green pips in his ability is a big deal for things like artifact mana sources.

This so much... Don't get me wrong Gretchen is a powerhouse, but Partner is such a busted mechanic that Gretchen doesn't even compare.
Commander legends really show it isn't, just depends on the cards paired up. Thrasios and maybe Tymna and Kodama are the only really problem ones as they are combos enablers who gain access to others colors and a partners to synergize with.

i know it’s more mana restrictive on the ability but this is draw instead of scry which might be better

If you're putting a land into play off the top of your library, that's quite a lot like drawing the land and playing the land.
Thrasios is a vastly better card simply because of Partner, but also not having blue and green pips in his ability is a big deal for things like artifact mana sources.

did you not notice Gretchen can put the lands in Untapped? And thrasios is Tapped?
she's good, but she's also easily replaced with almost any simic commander for the exact same deck.
