I like how they're using the basic lands as if they were from the dungeon master's playbook. Really gives the sense that you're playing a game of D&D when it's not actually D&D itself.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
These very well might just be my favorite basics ever! I'm kind of sad that they didn't directly reference Icewind Dale (Though I can't remember if Ten-Towns was within that region,) but I'm hyped to see Waterdeep, the Maelstrom, Neverwinter, and Baldur's Gate all referenced!

Yes 10 towns is in Icewind Dale.
I love hate these cards. Love the art and text, hate that once again they forget places outside of the Swordcoast and Chult exist.

Oh cool, I couldn't remember! Then I have no complaints hahaha.
Yeh, I was missing Sword Coast as well, I just played a copious amounts of Icewind Dale back in the day so I'm always hyped for ID references, but it's been a long time so I just forgot every location in the game hahaha. I won't lie, I'm just hyped for Forgotten Realms as MTG cards as a whole.
I absolutely love the flavor text on these lands. I'm on the fence if I would like this sort of treatment in non-D&D sets, maybe as a 1-in-10 version of the basics, kind of like the Bolas full-art lands in Amonkhet. Regardless this is a home run in design and flavor, the kind of thing that could spark a lot of imagination or fun on a kitchen table.

Yea it's a real shame, for 5th edition as well - Tomb of Annihilation was so well received you would have thought they would have decided to venture further out. The Sea of Fallen Stars, Calimshan, Anauroch, even the Dalelands are just a few that would make great campaign settings.
The Evolving Wilds at least references the Netheril and looks like one of their crashed sky enclaves, so hopefully will see a few more non-Sword Coast areas amongst the cards and supporting D&D books for the set!
I think it may sneak it's way into a couple of modern decks too. It's not instant speed, but 1 mana to take out stuff like Wrenn and Six is pretty dope. And taking out small creatures without giving them a land with a Path to exile.
Although we did just get Prismatic ending, but still, we'll see I guess hehe.

Nice artwork and flavour on all the lands too.
The only deck I've heard players of actively wanting Portable Hole is Lantern Control, which has a very low curve for the most part and a love of artifacts. Otherwise, Portable Hole feels too much like the front end of Fatal Push or the removal portions of Witherbloom Command - whiffs against too much to be any good. (Yes, I ditched Witherbloom Command from nearly all my decks because it both couldn't kill enough and it often didn't even hand me a land for my troubles. If you want GB Wrenn and Six, splash red. Also note that Fatal Push's Revolt half is what's saving it.)
On another note, I maintain my surprise that Prismatic Ending is performing as well in Modern as it currently is. Its usual inability to hit anything that's 4 cmc or more (unless your deck can actually support the splash) has already burned me once in testing, and I have put it into the sideboard as an actual meta consideration in only one of my decks (Hulk Footsteps). (Admittedly, you can make very valid comparisons of Prismatic Ending to Abrupt Decay, which is a good card and I actually did heavily play back in the day. However, once Assassin's Trophy was released, I switched to that, I love it so much more because it hits so much, it replaced Abrupt Decay in all my BG(x/y/z) decks, and I never looked back.)
