For the low low price of 2, your Thoughtcast now directly contributes to your artifact count. Not sure if this has a home in Modern anymore, but Mox Opal is definitely never coming back from the banlist now.
while i think it is a nice card, i dont get the design logic with the 7 cmc
so they give a common card an upside with (either a body or they change evoke for affinity) but than increase the cmc by 2 to work against that upgrade... what justifies it being a rare now ?
could have easy been and UC, if wou wanna make it rare, why not keep it at 5 mana ?

Because rarity doesn't justify making a card stupidly busted!
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Did you miss that this also has a body?
A body with flying, that can attack and block. It can also be blinked. Most times youre getting a 2/2 flyer for U and drawing 2. It doesnt really need to cost less.
Honestly this card is more Tezzeret and Esper than Affinity. Thoughtcast only got played occasionally as a two off in regular Affinity, and this needs more resources on the field to be actually cheap.
This creature may give Affinity a new breath of life, because artifacts have a looooot of hate to deal with and not they have an artifact that replaces Thoughtcast that isn't a creature.
I'd like the fact that it is an artifact creature itself.

Affinity Mulldrifter!
Affinity for artifacts will likely make him cost 2-3. An artifact creature itself, and has flying to hold equipment.
It's like the new & shiny designers are ignoring the old fogies who used to make conservative decisions.
