I was really hoping Maro's clue was gonna give us Greensleeves, but I'll accept her brother. And, the fact that Wizards remembers/acknowledges Garth makes me hopeful that we'll see a Greensleeves card some day.
I hope we get this guy in the retro border.
And before anyone is puzzled and asks - you make a copy of the card, and you have to still pay for the card, so you can pay into the x cost in Braingeyser.
Could this be the first ever bannable 5-color legendary creature.
would Rules committee even allow a creature that can make a black lotus when flicker cards exist to make more (which is how I would build him by the way) and we were just screaming at the top of are lungs in anger at wizards about Jeweled Lotus
Btw, when you cast the copy of the chosen card.. Can someone else counter that copy or is all this part of the resolution of his ability so you can't really respond to that until it's resolved?
Because it doesn't say anything like "you may cast until..."
Am I the only one that feels like they took the left over commander cards that didn't make commander sets and just said "hey let's just make a "modern" horizons 2 set and throw those cards in". The set definitely feels more like a commander set than a modern set so far.
It's still early in the spoiler season, but putting a card in a modern specific set that references cards that aren't even in modern seems strange. At least it's a neat design and the copies can be cast. Could make for some cool decks in modern, but I would love to see more "modern centric" design if that is something that is even possible.

So casting the spell is part of the resolution of his ability. But casting it only puts it on the stack. Once it is on the stack, your opponent can still counter it normally.

When they printed Yawgmoth in Modern Horizons I was confident we were going to get Gix in Commander 2019. Instead, we got K'rrik.
When Commander Legends was announced, I was 100% certain we would get Gix. I counted down the months, unable to believe that of the dozens of legends we were getting, Gix wouldn't be one of them. But no. We got Sengir and Szat - but no Gix. (At least we also got Glacian and Rebbec, which wasn't nothing.)
When I first learned about Modern Horizons 2, I was full-on hyped. Surely, THIS would be the set where we finally see Gix.
...
But Garth One-Eye? From the HarperPrism novels?
Really?
Year after year, I'm just Charlie Brown having another go at the football.
Whatever.

Edit: I realize the above post must come across as extremely petulant and petty. It is, I grant you. But it feels good to vent, as I've had this constantly-foiled expectation bottled up for the past two years, and not without reason: Gix has long been on Maro's list of most requested legends for Wizards to print, and Phyrexia has been peaking again around the corners of the lore, and it's been nearly 23 years without one of Magic's most classic villains ever getting a card. At this rate, we'll get Croag before we get Gix.
Not for nothing but y'all know there's already a 5-mana card you can blink repeatedly to add 3 mana, right?Gilded Lotus The broken thing about Lotus is the explosive starts it allows.

I assume you are talking an EDH perspective and not modern - I seriously doubt a 5 drop that must use a tap abillity without haste matters at all there.
It is a cute abillity, but it is not banable (at least from a power perspective). Like, compare him to Jegantha, the Wellspring. The latter gives 5 mana every turn with some restrictions on the mana. This gives you 3 mana (that admittedly can be saved) and requires you to jump through hoops to get more. I would say that it is similar in level to Jegantha, but Jegantha sees relatively little play, so I can't see this getting banned for the Black Lotus abillity. Naturally, the other options might be better or just as good, but still, they are not too unfair.
I think it is fair to draw a parallel to Captain Sisay. She is also a toolbox commander, but she can go off on her own, cost less and her toolbox have better cards. She is missing colors though, but still.

This should be silver border, and crossover sets should be dark blue border. They're really playing fast and loose here.
Generally I want every card to say what it does. I prefer reminder text on every mechanic, even flying and trample if there's room. I hate it when they ask people to either know it or look it up. The game has tens of thousands of cards. I know all these iconic cards, but even so, I don't wanna have to remember that Braingeyser is a sorcery, and I don't want people who don't know them all by heart to be less capable of understanding the card.
Today Ethan Fleischer talks about creating one of the oldest characters in Magic lore, if not the oldest. What the hell is going on anymore.
EDIT: Found this lost Deep Forest Hermit in the Variant Gallery for those who need some semblance of sense in their life.
I hope we get this guy in the retro border.

And here’s a reference of the other spells
Oh two more things one this is before he got a spark (he was a walker) second it’s this teaser
Post blink he is a new object and refreshes his "hand" of spells.
Because it doesn't say anything like "you may cast until..."

Ugggh I know Garth is definatly the novel character teaser
Well, technically legality speaks to deck building constraint so technically that's always been possible. But it does feel very silver, which I love.
are we in an "Un set" and WotC forgot to tell us?
Rapacious Dragon isn't broken. I think Black Lotus is fine as a tap ability on a creature.
No, that wording means you can cast it when the ability resolves or not at all.
